Title: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: jameslofton29 on June 10, 2005, 04:40:28 PM When you read articles, posts, etc., about CD, the song title 'Prostitute' comes up alot. But when you look at the real/fake tracklists for CD, a song called 'Substitute' shows up on the lists. Some people think that the word 'Substitute gets mixed up with 'Prostitute'. I'm not so sure about that. I think we might have the first cover song for CD. 'Substitute is a song by The Who from the mid 60's. It's also been mentioned that 'Ides of March' might be an Iron Maiden cover. I know its speculation, but when you consider the fact that all GNR albums have covers except AFD, its a possibility that we will see some covers on CD. Substitute is the more likely of the two. I cant imagine Axl doing a Maiden cover when Bruce Dickinson wrote a song about Axl.

:smoking: Izzy? :smoking: Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: ppbebe on June 10, 2005, 04:55:43 PM No covers please. Ta.
Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: jameslofton29 on June 10, 2005, 05:00:32 PM Izzy, I'm actually hoping there are NO covers on CD. Too much time has been spent on this album to try and fill it with covers. I would rather have a short album than a long one with several covers. But at least one of the two songs mentioned is likely to be a cover. I cant imagine two original songs using the title 'Ides of March'. 'Substitute is a much more general term, so it could be an original. But hasn't Axl mentioned being a fan of The Who in the past? Maybe Substitute is his favorite Who song. Same could be said about Ides of march. If 'Ides' isn't a cover, why use a song title that will immediately be associated with Iron Maiden?
Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: WARose on June 10, 2005, 05:21:14 PM we don`t know if this titles are real, so this is going a bit to far i think. i believe there won`t be any covers on Chinese Democracy and by the way do you think that a "the who" cover would fit into the new gnr style? OR MAIDEN???
i think the new gnr is very complex, whereas maiden`s style is kinda simple structured. Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: A.H.T. on June 10, 2005, 05:53:21 PM Sorry if this is a stupid question but which maiden song is about Axl?
Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: jameslofton29 on June 10, 2005, 05:55:16 PM If Axl does a Maiden cover, it should be 'Wasted Years' instead of 'Ides of March'.
Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: Walapino on June 10, 2005, 05:59:50 PM Sorry if this is a stupid question but which maiden song is about Axl? Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: Scabbie on June 10, 2005, 06:53:37 PM I would love to see Axl do a Maiden cover as a b-side, but not on CD
Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: vietnow138 on June 10, 2005, 07:58:52 PM I cant imagine Axl doing a Maiden cover when Bruce Dickinson wrote a song about Axl. The title Substitute came up because a false rumored title that would appear on kil bill II Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: G. K. Chesterton on June 11, 2005, 06:27:38 AM oh, and by the way, Ides of March is an instrumental and the intro to the Killers album - - -
it would be pretty pointless for Axl to cover it Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: ppbebe on June 11, 2005, 10:28:52 AM the same title, different song (original, Yay)?
providing it was not another net bs...... Title: Re: Substitute/Ides of March Post by: gigger on June 11, 2005, 11:52:29 AM Here's what Dave Dominguez said about Ides of March:
""Ides of March" was a working title of one of the songs that came from a loop name that Dizzy came up with I think they kept the name but it's been years so I'm sure everything has changed by now." Substitue isn't a song title either. The title came about in the Kill Bill rumour (which was made up) and whoever started it confused it with the song title "Prostitute". Brain and Dizzy have both said in the past that their will be no covers on the album.
