Title: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: Christos AG on June 08, 2005, 02:14:14 AM I got this from a friend who used to live in LA in the good times. I had sent it to John, don't know if he put it in the almanac yet.
Anyway, I believe it's the oldest GNR flyer and it's really cool that we found it after all these years... (http://www.gunsnroses.gr/images/gnrflyer.jpg) Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Well, Slash was the first guitarist that recorded songs with the band, so they're kinda right... Tracii left for no serious reason. And don't forget that without Slash we wouldn't have many GNR songs like SCOM, Estranged and all the beautiful solos in other songs... Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: Boromir on June 08, 2005, 05:41:22 AM Ole Beich : bass Rob Gardner : drums I knew about Rob but interesting about Ole.. where did you get the full name from? Or is this common knowledge?? ??? Quote August 31st, 1984 - Hollywood Rose plays a "After Hours Party" show at the Shamrock Studios on Santa Monica Boulevard at 2:00AM. During 1984 Hollywood Rose also opens for the band Stryper at the Music Machine. Also on the bill is Slash's band at the time called Black Sheep. Hollywood Rose breaks up after this show. Izzy joins a band called London while Axl sings in LA Guns with Ole Beich on bass and Rob Gardner on drums. Quote Later Duff joins the band and the lineup looks like this: W. Axl Rose (vocals) Izzy Stradlin (guitar) Tracii Guns (guitar) Duff McKagan (bass) Rob Gardner (drums) Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: dustNroses on June 08, 2005, 05:50:09 AM it is safe to say however that hollywood rose was the earliest incarnation of gnr that we know... oh and road crew, slash and stevens band. i hope im right
Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: fora on June 08, 2005, 06:53:52 AM Ok This is what I know.
1. Raz Records (there's the logo in the flyer) was the first music label to sign L.A. Guns (in the flyer there is the old logo of L.A. Guns, used for the first EP released in 1984 on Raz Records) 2. In 1984-85 the L.A. Guns were: W.Axl Rose (then Michael Jagosz) Vocals, Ole Beach Bass, Tracii Guns Guitars, Rob Gardner Drums 3. I think this is one the first shows of GUNS n' ROSES, cause it says L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose presents the new Band ... Guns N' Roses was the union of L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose: Ole, Tracii and Rob from Guns, and Izzy and Axl from Rose. I think that after few days, Ole Beach was replaced by DUFF. Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: fora on June 08, 2005, 06:59:45 AM it is safe to say however that hollywood rose was the earliest incarnation of gnr that we know... oh and road crew, slash and stevens band. i hope im right  no. The band in the flyer was Guns N Roses, not Hollywood Rose. Tracii Guns had never been in Hollywood Rose. The first GN'R Line-up was: W. Axl Rose V Tracii Guns G Izzy Stradlin G Ole Beach B Rob Gardner D then W. Axl Rose V Tracii Guns G Izzy Stradlin G Duff McKagan B Rob Gardner D then W. Axl Rose V Slash G Izzy Stradlin G Duff McKagan B Steven Adler D and i read an interview with Tracii, and he said that they recorded a couple of tracks (demos) for Raz Records as Guns N' Roses too. Im new here man. its good to meet ppl who know theyre gnr history too.. Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: Butch Français on June 08, 2005, 07:12:23 AM Guns N' Roses was at first a combination of Hollywood Rose and LA Guns, then the LA Guns part quit, they still decided to keep the Guns part in the name when members of Road Crew took the place of the LA Guns guys.
what if they changed the name to Crew N' Roses? then people could stop bitching about Tracii being the original guitarplayer.. ::) maybe this flyer is for LA Guns? did anyone think of that? both Axl and Izzy were in LA Guns for a period weren't they? Edit: btw, Ole is a norwegian name, maybe he's from here? Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: dustNroses on June 08, 2005, 07:17:30 AM true... slash auditioned for fuking poison at one point. however, if that shit didnt happen in the eighties, We wouldnt be here. Post by: Dayle1066 on June 08, 2005, 07:57:11 AM Even though Guns was in before Slash, Slash's playing is a lot better he has a better image and wrote all the guitar parts for those tunes. It could of been very different.

I think Tracii started it and brought Axl and Izzy from Hollywood Rose, hence (LA) Guns and (Hollywood) Roses I used to think the roses was because of Axl Rose and Duff "Rose" McKagan but I was wrong. Tracii then left because (I think) he didn't like working with Axl and his "Vision of Fame", Duff knew Slash And Adler from another Band so he brought them in after Tracii And Rob left. (I think Poison turned down Slash's audition, weird Eh?) BTW I seem to recall reading that Duff was a originally a guitarist but couldn't find work so he ended up playing Bass when he went to hollyood and it just stuck with him, can anyone confirm that? But PPBEBE you got to remeber that Slash and Duff helped write alot of the songs which appear on AFD and subsequent albums. And all the solos are Slash. It's funny. I was looking at the albums this morning and AFD and Lies say "All songs Written by Guns'n'Roses" then UYI's have different member's credited for different songs. I remember thinking in '91, "man, this is the beginning of the end, they are not sticking together like they used to." then 2 or 3 yearl later they were done. Bizarre  Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: *Izzy* on June 08, 2005, 10:35:02 AM I'd love to hear Appetite without Slash and Duff, I'd say it would have been much more glam and less gritty with just Axl, Izzy and Steve
:smoking: Izzy? :smoking: Title: Re: The Oldest GNR Flyer around... Post by: ppbebe on June 08, 2005, 11:06:38 AM Neemo, I know.
My point is that it's not essential that you should be in the band from the beginning for being and becoming a real gun. I'm just a bit pissed off with the reunionists bashing Axl for keeping the name and the current men for not being "the original guns". It's clear that they can't argue over the "origin" of the band. I have to say that when Gilby was here (about 3 months ago), it was me, him and Wayne of MC5 in my car, and Gilby was telling him the story (I trust Gilby more than anyone cause he's a good friend of Tracii) and he was telling Wayne that the name came from both names of Axl's and Tracii's.
