Title: Unreleased classic GN'R tracks
Post by: Mattman on June 05, 2005, 10:57:39 PM
There's still a bunch of unreleased tracks from the old Guns N' Roses out there.  I know there's definitely "Crash Diet" and "Ain't Goin' Down"...maybe there are some more.  But do you guys think that the band should officially release these in some form or another someday?  For sure "Crash Diet" is an incredible song.  I think that they should have put it on the Greatest Hits album.

There is a reason they were never released, because they are terrible. Pretty much all the songs that were never relased are just not that good.

I agree most are not very good, however, I really do enjoy "Sentimental Movie". That song is fucking great, and Slash plays his ass off. I could only imagine if they took the time to really polish it, and with Axl singing. Slash is a not a bad singer by the way.

Are you kidding? I've only heard two, but I know that "Crash Diet" absolutely rocks.  Axl's voice is in top form, and the lyrics are the best the band ever wrote about drugs.

Does anybody know any more of the band's unreleased old tracks?  I've never heard of "Sentimental Movie" before.

Gonna say this for the umpteenth time...

Crash Diet has been released by a band called Asphalt Ballet--who cowrote the song with Axl, Del, and West Arkeen. West plays guitar on the track, not Slash. It's an OK song but nothing great, and I doubt that they could (or would) ever realease it for legal reasons.

Well, I've heard two versions of "Crash Diet".  One I just downloaded straight off Kazaa.  It was okay, but it didn't really sound totally like Guns N' Roses.  The second one I downloaded off HTGTH.  It had worse production, but the performance was amazing and some of Axl's best singing ever.  It sounds like Guns N' Roses to me.  Are you sure you aren't just thinking about the Kazaa one?  After all, I don't know if HTGTH would have that version of "Crash Diet" on the site if it weren't genuine Guns N' Roses.

Of course GNR did the demo version you've heard...I'm just saying that Asphalt Ballet did an official studio version of the track that has been released.

I guess my first post can be a little confusing...I was specifically responding to the idea that it should have been on "Greatest Hits." (It's not even a released GNR song and certainly not a hit by any standards).

PS: Some of you guys should really read the HTGTH faq...these kind of questions get posted all the time.

I would have to agree with Dave2k, those songs are pretty lame. We got pretty much everything releaseable with UYI. However, I would be interested in hearing demos and different takes/mixes of Gnr classics.  :)

If they would've thrown some of those unreleased tracks on the greatest hits I think it would've sold even huger than it did anyway.  That seems to be the trend now with bands.  They throw a couple unreleased tracks on their compilations so even the fans that have everything the band has done will still buy it.  It worked with Red, White & Crue.

"Demon Bell" is NOT by Guns N' Roses.

It was recorded by a band called Dangerous Toys. Their singer's name is Jason McMaster, and he looks a bit like Axl and sounds EXACTLY like him.

The "GN'R" version you heard was the original DT song in worse quality to make it sound like a GN'R demo.

Yeah, I wasn't entirely sure about that one. Sorry. He sure does sound like him, though.

LOL, damn...never thought I'd see a Dangerous Toys reference on this board.  I love hair metal, but I can't friggin' stand DT.

Thanks to astutej for posting my link.

Right now, at my site, I'm releasing 60 unreleased GnR songs, two by two. I know alot of you have heard them, but if you don't have them on your comp, they're worth picking up.

I can't remember the name of the release, but apparently this is an old bootleg from quite a few years ago.

Anyway, to make a long story short, you can check out IllitPress.com every Sunday and Wednesday for the next set of songs on the list.

Already released on my site are:

Anything Goes Demo
Back off Bitch Demo
Bad Obsession
Bring it Back Home (with Just Another Sunday Intro)
Instrumental Live Blues Jam
Crash Diet
Don't Cry Demo
The Garden Demo
It's So Easy Live
Jumpin' Jack Flash Demo
Move to the City studio recording
Too Much Too Soon Demo
Used to Love Her Live

I only post 4 songs at a time, which are currently Crash Diet, Don't Cry, Bring it Back Home, and the Blues Jam. If there are any of the songs on that list that you didn't pick up, just e-mail me and I'll send em over to ya.

Why?

Because I love GnR, and as much as you're all pains in my ass, I gotta love GnR fans, if for nothing more than we share one thing in common. We want new GnR, and we'll even take unreleased shit to tide us over
