Title: OMG - this was soooooo bad!! Post by: W 23 AXL II on June 05, 2005, 12:41:48 PM SO i saw on this website that the GnR tribute band was playing at BB Kings last night in nyc. I figured id go and check it out.
some random, quick thoughts: - the place is very cool, great lighting, pretty good sound system - a Van Halen tribute band opened the show around midnight, they were actually pretty good. the singer sounded alot like david lee roth. the guitarist was a good player, but kinda chunky and didnt look much like EVH. - then the GnR band came out. it was totally, tottally pathetic. i wanted to leave after the first song, nightrain. the singer was terrible. i mean terrible. he sang either deep n low or TRIED to wail in a falsetto voice, it was terrible!!!! he tried swayi0ng around like axl, but that looked bad, and he had no confidence (i think he knew he and they sucked) - the person playing slash was pretty good, moved n looked like him. - izzy u could not even hear, the keyboards were off AND too loud. - "axl" butchered so many lyrics, fucked up SO many times!!! i looked around and caught one guy's eyes and we were both like, wow, this sucks. they didnt start until about 1am or later, and it was NOT worth it. - they did, however, play Get In The Ring. which alot of the 20yr old NYU wanna-be's had no idea of. - then the four of us got our alcohol bill: $200 for a few drinks. ** it proved one thing though, GnR is still the most under-exposed band and people are dying for ANYTHING relating to GnR!!
