Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I check the gnr fan forums and always see a lot of reycled topics involving the new gnr boots, and it's always the same stuff, the blues rock ,maddy is an instant classic, or rate the songs we have heard so far... I know some songs are new to people because a new fan is born each day, but how long can one talk and focus on a small handfull of songs without a bit of change? Same goes for soundboards, how many times can one say the same shows are great and rate them over and over... Can new gnr live forever off of like 20 shows over  a few years that happened in 2000-2002. When do you say I need more music to keep being a fan?? I had to ask because I just don't get it, it's like a frozen pereiod that we briefly had that never gets old and so many people are so satisfied with if nothing else happened again.. Lets not forget it's not like the songs we have are all great, some are tossed right out so maybe you enjoy three songs, just how long can one oh and ah over the same stuff? it isn't to make anyone angry, just want to hear how you feel..

I have never understood how people can listen to the same songs over and over again. (my wife drives me nuts with that :hihi: ) the only time I repeatedly listen to a song is when I'm trying to learn how to play it on Guitar.

Anyway, It was cool to hear new tunes in 2001, then I listened to them a bit in 2002 (especially right before the Toronto show I went to) then after the cancelled tour my interest quickly dwindled. with the IRS leak I thought it was cool to hear a new song again but I haven't listened to it in a month. In fact, with the exception of Behind the Music (which I watched for the first time last week) and TSI (which I listened to today for the first time in 10 years) I haven't heard any GnR lately, except the odd tune I hear on the radio.

Other than this board I have no GnR interest right now. I'm just chillin' waitin' patiently for CD, just like I've always done. In the meantime I listen to other Music, I just recently got the new Megadeth, it's pretty cool.

Well u guys are probably longtime GnR fans, me Im new blood. I started listening october of last yr. But for me listening to GnR is as common as brushing my teeth, I do it on a daily basis. I cant help it its got me so pulled in. Eventually it might js dwindle. But its such a strong connection to the music that I can help but zone out to Coma or Estranged, so theres a chance it might not. Especially since Im so deeply hooked in now, and read all this shit about them, bought all there cd's and dvd's and am a member of the message board on the best Guns N' Roses website on the net (No Im not brown nosing Jarmo Ive been to em all and none of em compare to this one).

And if Chinese Democracy is in fact being released this yr or next then I doubt my obsession with this band will fade anytime soon.  :peace:

 I don't know why alot of people would be satisfied with just that brief tour and a few boots, I guess for the older fan, it was great to see Axl again and for the new fan I guess NuGNR opened an entire music library that they never heard before but whether you're new or old, it's so about time to hear new studio material and hard not to get frustrated by the lack of.  The thing that keeps NuGNR going as far as fans go is you just don't know if and when there will be new material released and you keep hanging on and talking about the same things until that happens.  I personally don't listen to the boots all that much anymore, there are so few songs you can only listen to them so much.   We only get a few new things to talk about every year after that's talked about to the point of nausea, we go back to the songs again :hihi:

I think I still show up and discuss the current situation out of habit.  I have nothing else better to do during the day besides work. So I just sit in my office and get paid to discuss GNR :rofl:

Very intelligent post, Mike. I think we are reaching a critical point not just for GNR, but for the fans' patience as well. The new songs are old news. I love CD and the Blues, Madagascar and IRS are ok, but I'm getting burnt out on them. Those few live songs and the IRS leak cannot sustain the fans for very much longer.

That must be an amazing feeling to discover the entire catalog at once, but sucks you missed the whole gnr movement... I am an old fan and it seems like a really really long time.. Welcome and enjoy..

thats all we have to listen too, so start waiting like the rest of us :-\

Great post. I wonder about that too. I mean, I can listen to WTTJ/PC/YCBM etc... every time and always feel a kick, but when the new songs get played out, I just cringe, they just don;t do it for me.
What kills me is that these songs aren't even done on CD, they haven't been put out, and they serve as NO INDICATION of how good these upcoming records may or may not be. I trust Axl when he says these aren't the big guns because these songs really can't match the old ones, and the songs taht he says that will make up for his lost time, and which are meant to explain whats been on his mind the last 15 years haven't been put out. We have commentators on these boards who dissect these songs and consider them on par or better than the old songs. Now I can't relate to that planet. Most GNR fans wouldn't agree with these NU-GNR fans anyways, so I'm finding it more disconcerting when Im on these boards and people have few things to say about the old bands. There's plenty to say when you follow them and buy the old bootlegs. Im gonna see VR next week anyways, so I'll have an even better sense of how to compare the NU-GNR live with VR. Now that's news and thats music worth discussing because it actually exists and the public has had it chance to hear it up to the tune of platinum sales.

I totally agree with you... I can listen to old GNR over and over and I watch my old gnr bootlegs when I work out over and over....  I still will hold my absolute judgement on NuGNR material until I can hear them on CD.   I like the new songs but as you said, it's hard to listen to them all the time.  IMO I am one that agrees you can't compare them to the old material because to me there is no comparison.  I would love if NuGNR put out an amazing album that maybe I could say wow you know that is just as good as PC or SCOM, I don't think that will ever happen just because you can't get the magic of the original band again.   BTW I am seeing VR tomorrow and I can wait : ok:

Exactly right. When I need a GNR fix I go back to the old stuff because there is not enough new stuff to maintain me. That is my main complaint, a feeling that 90% of the people who post here agree with. Except the fanatics.

As for me, I have to admit that I rarely listen to GNR these days.  I must have listened to AFD a million times in 1988 alone let alone the years after.  I started listening to all my GNR discs again in 2002, but not lately.  :-\  I need something new - hear me Axl?!  ::)

Well i thing because there only live versions and they sound new and fresh....I heard studio versions of say locomotive and PTup,YCBM first but i hear them live and some times there not that good compared to the studio versions.......so if people really like the live versions of new songs there gonna love the studio versions if we ever hear them because they will kick ass. :beer:

Woody I was trying to say it seems like some only talk about the new tunes. I can listen to the old but I have such variety that I don't concentrate on a few songs.. It's like IRS I don't re play the same tune 6000 times.. I could never do that with any gnr tune new or old..

For me to have a new gnr and to talk about it so frantically so many times you need some change, something new just to know they still exist.. I can't just be happy about it when I don't even care about the few new songs we have. I can't talk about 20 shows over and over.. A few shows is cool to have when the band is just starting and is growing.. It's like we had a very brief taste and then it was over like it never happened..

That's why I listen to old and new alike on shuffle in my computer  :P But I agree, this board, all of us are getting repetitive, it's not our fault. It's axl's fault  >:(  Sometimes I wish he would release a statement and say..... "sorry guys This puppy ain't coming out. My apologies." I would be disappointed but I could understand he has the right to do whatever he wants to. But this crying out for wolf is getting really old; unlike the tale, we don't leave, we stay put like idiots waiting for more.

Well when the irs 32 second clip leaked it was like sharks smelling a drop of blood.. I'd hate to see what would happen if an album was released... Mass heart attacks would occur.. I would love a very brief statement by axl (good or bad) to follow up his rio "hopefully in a few months" speech.. He could say lawsuits are holding it up but it's done, it will be out this year, or it may take a while yet again.. It would suck but at least we would know something.

So you shuffle them on itunes? I'm still old fashion, I put in different albums but I have the new tunes on my Itunes..

It's like the vmas, I love watching it, and I hate watching it.. It makes me happy, and sad because of what I thought was going to happen, I cringe now when I hear round 1, I almost feel for axl when he says that..

Itunes kicks ass  ;D I have them all on shuffle along with all the demos and a few selected songs from bootlegs.
When I didn't have a computer I used to listen from start to finish but it came a moment when I knew which song would follow and I got tired of it, so I made mp3's out of everything and I prefer to be surprised.
