Title: People don't realise how much Tommy does a great job on Bass
Post by: nesquick on April 29, 2005, 06:59:28 AM
His bass Lines on "the blues" and "IRS" are one of the key of these songs. I'm not a bassist but anyone else noticed the great Tommy bass lines? is there a bassist on this board?

You don't have to play bass to know that Tommy is awesome. Listen to the Rio boots-his bass drives almost all the songs-it's basically a rhythm guitar. CD and The Blues really standout. His bass just has a very good tone and is very limber-not as clunky/clanky as Duff.  :nervous: (here comes trouble!)

He may own but he doesnt own Tommy. That is for sure. Sorry. I'll take Tommy and Brain over Duff and Sorum/Adler any damn day of the week. However, the guitar players are an entirely different matter! :peace:

Tommy's line in The Blues at Rio was awesome. It's really a shame that in the 2002 shows the mix didn't help him a lot...
He did a great job too in Rhiad, just listen to the Osaka version! ;)

I've said since the first day that the Rio version is the best version of "the blues" ever. Add the Richard outro solo at the end and the song is perfect, the tempo, the bass line, Axl's voice, everything. I'm really not a fan of the 2002's version (overproduced, too slow and boring) . I prefer the fresh blues-rock version of Rio! However "madagascar" improved a lot in 2002. The keyboards works very well in Madagascar, but not for The Blues.

Richard wasn't even in the band at the Rio show...I assume you mean Robin or Paul. And I disagree about  the blues. While not my favorite of the new songs, I fail to see how a live version on bootlegs can be overproduced--although I agree that the CD will probably have an overproduced feel to it.

He said something like "imagine Richard outro solo in the Rio version"...
And I disagree, I only like the bass lines from Rio. The 2002 version, overall, souds way better to me.

Again, as i've always said - i will wait untill they release something rather than make myself look like a complete idiot claiming Tommy, or Richard or any of those other muppets is godlike on the basis of a handful of demo's...

I assume Izzy has never heard of the Replacements as well. ::) Tommy was a stud before Axl and will be after Axl.

I'm not a bassist but I think bass lines are fun and easy to write

I'm not going to judge Stinson because I've never heard his solo stuff

OFF TOPIC: Duff is just a kick ass bassist, nothing less

 :smoking: Izzy? :smoking:
