Title: New songs from CD?
Post by: dENIS on April 14, 2005, 09:33:48 AM
Jeff Leeds has spoken to Splat about some 'new' tracks he encountered during his recent investigations for his GN'R article in the NY Times .
The first track, 'Atlas Shrugged' is described as being somewhere between 70's glam rock and 'November Rain'. Another new track, 'Quick Song', is a rock song with a riff similar to 'Smells Like Teen Spirit. The last track, 'Zodiac', is described as an electronic, industrial song.

It is likely that these tracks are older GN'R tracks, so it is unclear whether these tracks will have been A-listed for the forthcoming Guns n'roses, 'Chinese Democracy'.

I think Axl will just have 2 or 3 be sides to each single to release all these B list songs. I wouldnt miind seeing riyadh and silkworms as the B sides to the first single.

That tracklisting is just a BS composit of known titles...

It doesnt mean anything, Im sure that most are song titles, but then Im sure there are 20 more potentials.

whilst i agree the song is sub par...Im in the minority that i really like the style of it and the beats are great. I really hope that nu GNR do one album of silkworm style songs...though much better. Say GNR and Axl doing songs like breathe by prodigy, harder edged with guitar...

close to Primal Scream, the best live band ive ever seen...mixing traditional rock with dance grooves.

I'm willing to bet they are just working titles from old demos. Lots of musicians and bands do that while they are demoing and don't have a proper title/complete lyrics. You give it a working name that describes the feel of the song or maybe an improvised line or two that you end up building a melody around. Makes it easier in demos and rehearsals to tell what song it what.

Then again it could just be a few snippets from however many hundreds of hours they have of half formulated ideas that haven't been worked out yet.

Or its bullshit.  ;D

this may sound odd, but does anyone agree that this looks like a tracklisting??

Not only the way the titles flow, but from the songs we do know and have heard, thay are kind of placed in the order that would seem to make sense?

"Quick Song" is clearly a working title... I wonder, did these tracks have vocals?

The titles have caught my interest if only because we haven't heard them before. But dare we trust NYT reporters these days?

'Atlas Shrugged' after the book by Ayn Rand?

With this title and 'Catcher in the Rye" I wonder if Axl has been spending alot of time reading books.

Interesting titles.

As for Silkworms, the lyrics suck, but the music is great - I love the electronica pulse punctuated by those aggressive guitars. If Axl polished the lyrics and re-thought his vocal delivery, he'd have a winner with this one.

He must have spent his time doing something these past 12 years.
