Title: This months Classic Rock / The Days of Wine and Roses
Post by: Scabbie on March 10, 2005, 04:34:41 PM
Just a quick note to let you know that Classic Rock's main feature this month is the story of GNR, called 'The Days of Wine and Roses'. Nice cover, I won't type the story out, but maybe some one could scan it and post.

Haven't finished reading it yet, but its a fairly comprehensive story from a wide range of people involved with the early GNR.

Is it a piece by Mick Wall? Last I heard he was an editor at Classic Rock.

 ;D

Would be nice if somebody else other than Mick "Did I tell you I met Axl in 1990 and he mentioned me in Get In The Ring?" Wall could write about GN'R. ;)

Thanks for the link Mike.

I love the cover title : "At last, the full story". Like it hasn't been told thousands of times before  :hihi:

I almost bought it yesterday, and I probably will at some point.

The thing with Classic rock is that EVERY single year they MUST release at least two issues on GN'R,
and they say the same shit over and over again.

It's just cashing in really.

Duff's wife (susan Holmes) is also featured in the magazine with some scantily clad pictures of her to accopmany - you may want to re-consider your purchase!

I tried to copy and paste it here, but it said it was over the maximum 10000 words or something.

Jarmo, can you fix this so people can read it here?

Gross.  Izzy went around the table and drank remnants of people's used drinks???? :puke:

Axl dyed his eyebrows?  So red isn't his natural color? :hihi:

In the latest issue of Classic ROCK, GN?R are on the cover (well the old GN?R).
There?s mention of a missing GN?R film (recorded around AFD times).

There?s the usual photo?s and stuff from the band members (except Axl, as per usual).

I didn?t buy the magazine, just had flick through. Matt Sorum told a funny story from his time in GN?R:
(along the lines of) ? jumped off a jet, there was this Porsche 911 parked on the run way, I told it was there for me, so I jumped in (along with girlfriend) and spin the car around abit before the thing cut out (some anti theft device). It turns out there car was not there for him, it belonged to the limo company. He (Matt Sorum) asked how much and wrote out a cheque there and then for $46,000 and took the car  ;D - that?s a mad position to be in?.

Who wrote it? From what I saw on another board, at least part of it is a direct reprint of the Spin cover story from '99 which I think Mark Spitz wrote.

Does anyone know if the new Classic Rock Magazine with GNR on the cover is out in the United States yet???

Even if it comes out here I'm not buying it. It will just be a rehash of what we already know. Absolutely nothing newsworthy can come out until Axl sets a release date. And only then will the ball start rolling.

I bought the magazine yesterday after falling for their claim that there was bound to be something in the article that was new to even GNR diehards... the article is basically 5 or 6 pages of quotes and brief anecdotes from people who were associated with the band throughout the glory years: Tom Zutaut, Nikki Sixx, Tracii Guns, Michelle Young, Vicky Hamilton etc. etc.

The only things in it that were new (for me anyway) were the brief interviews from Duff, Matt and Slash, plus an extended interview with Steven Adler, who were all seemingly recently interviewed by the magazine for the purposes of this feature.

It still makes a good read, but alone it's not worth the ?4 price tag. Good thing there is plenty of other reading in the mag, and also a live compilation DVD included with it!

I'll ask again...?

As a couple of us have been saying, it's mostly a reprint of Spin's 1999 cover story.? Do they credit Spin or Marc Spitz or anything?? Are there any bylines?

I liked it lots - AC/DC riffing and good singing - even if they did go for the old rock cliche of filming the video outside a mansion.

The Ga Ga's was pretty good aswell, but the highlight for me was Zakk Wylde's 'Bleed for me'.

Marc Spitz is credited with the interviews, but I see no mention of Spin magazine.

On a side note, Mick Wall is no longer associated with Classic Rock it appears; the editor is now Sian somebody... forget the surname.

The new Steven Adler interview from this magazine can be seen here (http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/articles/showarticle.php?articleid=145).

The main article is the story printed in Spin back in 1999. You can find that in the articles section as well.
