Title: If Axl wanted to be in a Broadway Musical, who should he play?
Post by: Annie on February 25, 2005, 01:38:53 PM
Axl has such awesome vocal talent that i think he would be great on Broadway. I think he would be great as The Phantom in POTO,  Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and Jesus in jesus christ Superstar. Sebastion bach did a couple of Broadway shows,  Jeckyll and Hyde and jesus christ superstar. I think it would be a cool way for Axl to reinvent himself! Can't you just imagine axl singing the Music of the Night.? OK I'll admit I'm a little obsesed with the phantom. :smoking:

Sorry to say it, but Broadway is not for Axl.   He has/had a unique voice, but his voice was never really skilled and without that nobody would hire him for a musical.

Jean Valjean in Les Miserables is it! The role fits him to a T...to a fault.

Axl IS a very gifted vocalist, The dude has a  three 1/2 octave for christ sake!  POTO would be perfect for his singing style.

The thing that people always forget in these circumstances is that for someone to be in a Broadway musical, they have to be skilled at both singing AND acting.  Sebastian Bach in Jesus Christ Superstar and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was apparently better in principle than execution.  The reviews I read all said that, while Bach has a spectacular singing voice, he can't act his way out of a paper bag and so couldn't effectively carry the audience through the dramatic action.  I fear Axl might have a similar problem.  Let's face it, even though the guy is (in my opinion) the best hard rock screamer ever, his acting skills might be a little lacking for all we know.  Let's not forget, he only ever acted in GN'R's music videos, and then always as himself.

That said, if Axl did want to be in a Broadway musical, I would love to see him as the cop/narrator in Urinetown, just because it would give him an excuse to wear the police hat again.  8)

I think Axl has a flare for the dramatic... but, I think he'd be FANTASTIC in a musical comedy!

None specific come to mind though.
perhaps some creative mind could write one... with him in mind.

And I wouldn't discount his performances in the GN'R videos... he was playing 'himself' but he had to act to re-enact scenes from his past and he had to emote to put across the right feelings in scenes for the vdeios.
I think Axl can act.... he is: creative, dedicated, and passionate in all he puts forth.  : ok:

I thought Baz didn't make it in Broadway because his ego got in the way.  No way Axl could make the shows on time anyway based on his history.

no way he would be better off playing roger davis in RENT'S broadway musical because roger is a struggling musician but as far as poto and les miserables i think it better be left to the professionals that play it well.

If I was to "PEEK" with information, I'd have to say it sounds like something a front man would do if he had no band.  Axl has pulled off one of the greatest Harry Houdini stunts of all times,("Now You See Him, Now You Don't"). I see him more as a Magician. I'm just waiting to See Him again.

The soldier in Miss Saigon, The main male character in Sunset Boulevard, oooor and PLEASE HAVE A SENSE OF HUMOR :

Here is a description of the MacCavity character in cats:

A third crash interrupts the celebration, and this
time the villainous Macavity appears! Two of his henchman
invade the proceedings and kidnap Old Deuteronomy! Two
felines familiar with Macavity, Demeter (a frightened
kitten who had been previously abducted by Macavity) and
the older and more sensual Bombalurina (a goodtime girl
who gets along with everyone) sing what they know of
"Macavity"

SOLO:
Macavity!

Macavity's a mystery cat, he's called the hidden paw
For he's a master criminal who can defy the law
He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair
For when they reach the scene of crime Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare
And when you reach the scene of crime Macavity's not there!

You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air
But I tell you once and once again Macavity's not there!

Macavity's a ginger cat, he's very tall and thin
You would know him if you saw him for his eyes are sunken in
His brow is deeply lined in thought, his head is highly domed
His coat is dusty from neglect, his whiskers are uncombed

He sways his head from side to side with movements like a snake
And when you think he's half asleep, he's always wide awake

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity
He's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square
But when a crime's discovered then Macavity's not there!

He's outwardly respectable, I know he cheats at cards
And his footprints are not found in any files of Scotland Yard's
And when the larder's looted or the jewel case is rifled
Or when the milk is missing or another peke's been stifled
Or the greenhouse glass is broken and the trellis past repair
There's the wonder of the thing Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity
There never was a cat of such deceitfulness and suavity
He always has an alibi and one or two to spare
What ever time the deed took place Macavity wasn't there!

And they say that all the cats whose wicked deeds are widely known
I might mention Mungojerrie, I might mention Griddlebone
Are nothing more than agents for the cat who all the time
Just controls the operations: the Napoleon of crime!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity
He's a fiend in feline shape, a monster of depravity
You may meet him in a by-street, you may see him in the square
But when a crime's discovered then Macavity

Macavity, Macavity, Macavity
When a crime's discovered then Macavity's not there!
Macavity's not there!

Macavity returns, disguised as Old Deuteronomy, but he
is revealed, and he battles with Munkustrap and the other
male cats. Tired and almost defeated, Macavity rigs an
electrical explosion that puts out all the lights, leaving
the Jellicles in the dark.

ALL:
We have to find Old Deuteronomy

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Axl is a legend but he wasn't made to act for Broadway cuz he was made to be a HERO for us all n' for everyone who might know him across the planet but i'm agree with you when u say he has a' amazing voice but some producer should make a Broadway show which speaks about GNR/Axl Rose but Axl Rose shouldn't performance for any Broadway show ever cuz he's just a' ICON truly!...so ya guys why don't ya step down now please?   ::)

He should make his own play, the title;

"How I alienated my friends, bandmates and fans by taking 14 years to make an album"
Or to cut it short
"If they say you should not take 14 years for one album then they're quitters!"

Madonna is an ICON and she did such a fabulous job in the movie version of EVITA that she should have won an  Academy award! I am just so in love with the way Gerry Butler recreated the phantom that it made me think that Axl would be great in a musical. The Music of the Night reminds me so much of November Rain! ::)
