Title: Just saw Tommy in Chicago
Post by: cubsfan77 on February 11, 2005, 02:48:31 AM
I talked to him a bit before the show. Really genuine guy. So I cut to the chase "When's democracy coming out?" He said to me early spring. Said he couldn't say much more. We talked about his album and then he started making out with this chick right in front of me, girlfriend? groupie? whatever. He put on a totally awesome show.

best CD last year?  ;D Contraband is 10 times better that Tommy's Cd, and it's not the best album of 2004 too.

Tommy's Cd is GREAT

VR Sucks

VR are ok, i have not picked up the album though as there simply isn't a  track i really like. Although i would like to see them live as that's how i see them, a live band worth seeing, a good night out. I rate the first Slash's Snake Pit album higher than VR, as the lead singer seemed pretty wild (what was his name? didn't he have a band of his own?).

It's not unbelievable. You're the one who needs to act like a tough guy online by doing exactly what Pandora asked you not to.

If you think you can get this thread locked, you're wrong.

Now, go play somewhere else.

If Axl hired an 80 year old man to join GNR to play the banjo you guys would this he is the greatest.

If Axl hired an 80 year old man to join GNR to play the banjo you guys would this he is the greatest.

And if he hired God to play all the instruments you would still be here bitching about how "it's not the old line-up".
If that's all you have to bring to this subject you can just as well shut up.

Whatever Pandora.? Truth hurt?  Mabey I should sign a contract that doesn't let me talk about GNR, just like Tommy!

Philly, if you remotely think Duff is as good a bass player AND AS GOOD A SONGWRITER as Tommy, you really have no clue about art and musicianship. I know everything is subjective, but on skill and talent Tommy and Brain far exceed Duff and Matt/Steven. Now, the guitar players, that is a whole other story. Finck/Fortus don't come close to Slash/Izzy-Bucket even's the score but he is not officially around so he doesn't count at the moment. Tommy is, in my humble opinion, as good a songwriter as Izzy and he has the albums to prove it.  ;D

Truth is a subjective concept. In the GN'R world it's a word that means nothing.

You are absolutely allowed to talk about your frustrations or how much you love the old line-up, just do it in the right places. I don't think it's that hard to understand.

You'll all find that Spring starts 22nd March, so early spring means an April release. 2 - 2.5 months away. Perfectly possible before we all dismiss this.

i wonder if there is something going on in the Guns camp from next week, since Tommy and Dizzy seams to have a break then.. Maybe a pressrelease or something. Damn, that would take away alots of these speculations..

I don't know exactly when "early spring" starts, I'm just saying what he told me. As for this musical debate, i agree that Tommy is as good of a song writer as Izzy. I would also argue that he's as good of a guitar player as gilby or izzy also. The other thing about his show was the performance. He's a true performer, it's not contrived. Even most bands with good songs these days ignore the performance aspect of their shows. I also think it's cool that the tickets were $10.00, I see local acts all the time in Chicago and they charge between $5-$10.00. I don't want to compare him to Velvet Revolver, because it's like talking about apples and oranges. Tommy writes smart lyrics and catchy songs. Velvet Revolver are a marketing machine and a money making scam.

"Velvet Revolver are a marketing machine and a money making scam"

Oh plleeeaasseee! And the 2002 GNR "tour" wasn't a money making scam LOL! Please!

Was this an acoustic show that Tommy did, or did he have Frank, Rich, and the boys with him....how was the acoustic set...does anyone have a setlist?

Tommys solo cd is amazing. not a "piece of crap cd" - fink is on the level of slash with a better live sound.

Robin Finck cannot come close to Slash at any level of guitar playing.  And live, his stage presence is pretty weak.  I would take Richard over Robin in a second.  Slash is the greatest guitar player Gn'r have ever had.  Buckethead is a great player too, but he's not in the band anymore.  Robin Finck butchers Slash's solos and his stuff on the new songs is rather unimpressive.

STOP IT NOW.

This thread is not about :
1. Tommy's album vs VR's
2. Tommy vs Duff
2. Finck or Fortus' guitar playing

If you fail to comprehend that, I'm afraid you have reached terminal braindeadness.

Now back on the friggin' topic !!

What's wrong Pandora?? Something stuck in your box?!?

That was uncalled for.
And pretty fuckin' uncool.
Read the rules.  If you can't be an adult, there are plenty of other boards out there.

On topic...that's good news, I think...Tommy has been maddeningly nonspecific--"soon", "a hair's breadth", etc.--but lately he's been giving much more.  "The music is done", "Early spring", I get the feeling he may have gotten something newsworthy from Uncle Axl.

Of course, that could be my misguided hope talking.

After The Reverb gig, Stinson will head back home to Burbank, Calif., where he moved from Minneapolis in 1993. Next, he says, Guns N' Roses is gearing up for a late spring CD release, hopefully followed by touring.

It never ceases to make me laugh when you people believe what Stinson has to say over and over again despite the fact that he has never been right regarding the status of CD.  You same people will be psyched to learn in September 2005 that Tommy has indicated to a fan that Decembber 2005 is the month.    : ok:

Try to live and learn from hostory.  Stinson is as clueless as us.  And on a side note, whoevern said Stinson is as good a songwriter has Izzy is a complete mess.  That is tgh emost ridiculous thing I have ever seen on this board.  Stinson is a good performer and probably a good person who means well, but to put him in Izzy's category as a songwriter is a huge injustice to Izzy.  Pluease people, think before you type.

I am clueless?  I haven't believed a sin;e rumor since nuGNR failed in their 2002 tour, and you have believed every single moron rumor and piece of shit quote from Stinson and Reed that I can remember.  In that case, who is clueless?  I have been right to doubt these rumors and you have been wrong to sit here and believe them.  And, yes, I get a kick out of you and all the other slow people on this board that want to hear CD so bad that they believe everything they hear.  I laugh out loud sometimes at the same people buying the same shit day in and day out...i.e. new release date rumor every 3 months.  I even laugh at you calling me clueless for being right year after year.

And I'm not sure what your broken english statement means, but what kind of a fool is gonna doubt the release date of CD after it is actually released?  That must have lost something in the translation from your native tongue because it makes no sense.

Explain to me how being right about all these stupid rumors makes me clueless?

Who are you talking to? Huh, I haven't ever believed any Bull Shit RUMOURs. I enjoyed them tho. I'm saying I never doubt The members' honesty. There are two things, The words straight from the horse's mouth and rumours from some unknown sources, Those Who can?t see the difference between them are clueless.

From the linked article Jarmo posted:
"I haven't gotten sick of it yet," he says of the disc, which was released last summer. "I usually don't listen to any of my records past the mastering process."

haha! Me either!  I played VGH in my van all afternoon while I was running errands... When the CD finished and my player went to the next disc slot, I had to put it back on VGH.  I'm still lovin' this CD.  I really would love to see Tommy perform live but the closest he's come to south Florida has been Atlanta and that woulda been an 10+ hr. drive :(

Anyone who has listened to VGH would have to recognize Tommy's song writing skills.  I am really looking forward to CD even more since hearing VGH, so I can see what he brought to the song writing.  Many fans have mentioned how Axl had to be missing his songwriting partner in Izzy - well, I can see Tommy easily filling that spot.  Tommy wrote a great album in VGH... extremely listenable - very catchy and enjoyable play after play... after play...

I got a real kick out of this quote because I was just thinking today when I was listening to it - thinking about Tommy listening to it!  And how he can be very proud of his album.

  Tommy
