02 Feb 2005 Guns N' Roses have parted company with their record label Geffen.

Internet sources are suggesting that the band (who only feature frontman Axl Rose from the original line-up of the band) have apparently inked a deal with Sanctuary Records.

i dunno, think geffen still is their company and sanctuary only 2 publish gnr :coffee:
-on the other hand, if their work is done with geffen...

am i the only one not gettin all this? ::) thanks 4 that link : ok:

Wonder who the "internet sources" are.

probably that same site that mentioned this the other day, melodirock or some other dubious music page.

I've always wondered about their contract with Geffen - it was suggested that the Greatest Hits album was the last disc to be honoured in that contract, but who knows whats going on!

i think that the writer of this story just misunderstood the sanctuary publishing deal and assumed it meant that sanctuary was their new label...the deal was not to make sanctuary their label - if so, they would've stated that in the announcement as well...

Exactly. I know it's easy for fans (like us) to get it confused, but you would figure
that music outlets would get the information right. This deal has nothing to do with
their record label. Melodicrock.com did post a retraction on the article, and clearing
up that they mis-interpreted the news.
Interestingly, Kid Rock just signed a new publishing deal (leaving Warner/Chappel) too.
However, he still has 3 albums left on a contract with Warner. Recording contracts
and publishing contracts need not be with the same company, nor do they need
to co-exist. Some songwriters have publishing contracts, but don't record or perform.
And I'm sure that some artists (maybe country singers or boy bands) who don't write
any of their own music, have recording contracts but no publishing contracts.

Recording contracts and publishing contracts need not be with different companies.

I wouldn?t be surprised if they stated it in the next announcement.

Mysteron,

Do you mean that the article is false?

Thanks

If Mysteron says so, then so be it

But, surely with the GH the deal is up, and all GNR would need to do to release Chinese Democracy with someone else is to pay back the advance on the album - the 10 mill from santuary would do that.

Let's assume for a moment that this is not a misinterpretation of the publishing deal and that GNR has indeed severed ties w/ Geffen in favor of Sanctuary.  If this is the case, did Geffen re-coup all CD advances and expenses through Sanctuary?  This is most likely  amisunderstanding, although if it's not, Sanctuary must have an immense amount of confidence in any future endeavors.  Or, i just wasted a minute of my day...carry on..
