Title: Question about Nov. Rain intro.
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on January 29, 2005, 02:09:44 PM
Hello fellow Gunners.  Does anyone know if the piano piece between The Asshole Song and Nov. Rain at MSG 12-5-02 is original material or just a cover?  It's really awesome, and I just don't want to get my hopes up if it's not original.  I could definitely see it as being part of a classic GNR epic...hopefully coming soon.  Any thoughts?

Norway:  No, not the asshole part.  I'm assuming that the asshole song is just a joke...after he's done with that, he goes into a beautiful piano piece for about a minute just before November Rain.  That's the piece I'm talkin' about.  Any idea if that's a cover or new???   ???

thats axl as far as i know, logically since no-one has commented it otherwise...
always possible that it's a old, rare classical song or something, but i don't think so  : ok:

thats a nice piece of music :)

Un.. my friends said that they saw the "Makin' of Estrangeg" and they showed a little piano thing and it was very similar to the Tour 2002 Piano Intro....

i think i read somewhere here at htgth that someone thought it was the rumored song "this i love", but as far as i remember noone has ever confirmed that or anything... if it was a cover i think someone would have picked it up tho...

Hey Nazareth, no, not the Asshole Song.  Between the Asshole Song and November Rain he does a really beautiful piano piece.  If you listen closely enough, you can probably here Sorum say, "What's with the piano?"   :hihi:

I'm asking what the Asshole song is but whatever.

Axl sat down at the piano, and started singing "you are an asshole, and he is an asshole" or something like that. I don't remember the words exactly. Then he stoped, laughed, and said "oh wait, wrong song".

Asshole song is something like ...
"You're an Asshole and everybody knows it, how much you are an asshole nobody can say, but you're... sorry, wrong song"

If you listen closely enough, you can probably here Sorum say, "What's with the piano?"? ?:hihi:

Hahahahahaah!? :hihi:? That totally made my day!

Sorry folks, the Sorum comment was a complete joke.  I think Sadis got it. ;)
I love rock music too, leesixxrose, but the reason why I think GNR is the best f'in rock band going (or not quite going at this time) is because they can crank it up or slow it down, and do both in a beautiful way!  Dammit, if you want a one-dimensional band like AC/DC I'm sure they've got a forum somewhere.  True GNR fans respect the versatility, all the way from WTTJ and CD to Nov. Rain and Estranged.

On topic:  If this piece of music is part of any new song, we're talkin' a huge hit...and you can take that one to the bank!

yes... its really beautiful

lol @ the sorum "whats with the piano" comment  :hihi:

this entire topic made me reall this bit from "The Rolling Stone Interview" Aug 1989

The 'G n' R Lies' EP surprised a lot of people because of it's emphasis on acoustic material. Aren't you afraid that some people may be turned off by the band straying from the sound that got them on top?

We're not getting away from hard rock. Our basic root is hard rock, a bit heavier than the Stones, more in a vein like Aerosmith, Draw the Line- type stuff. We love loud guitars. George Michael was telling me he really loved our melodies and wondered why we covered so much of it up with loud guitars, and I said because we love that. I told him he should put some more loud guitars in his music. He has such beautiful melodies, and it'd be nice to hear some loud guitars in there. At the same time, I have my favorite symphony pieces, orchestra pieces if you will.

I've always looked at things in a versatile sense because of Queen, ELO, Elton John, especially early Elton John and groups like that. With Queen, I have my favorite: Queen II. Whenever their newest record would come out and have all these other kinds of music on it, at first I'd only like this song or that song. But after a period of time listening to it, it would open my mind up to so many different styles. I really appreciate them for that. That's something I've always wanted to be able to achieve. It's important to show people all forms of music, basically try to give people a broader point of view.

Speaking of versatility, you're known primarily as a singer, but you've been playing piano quite a bit lately.

I've been playing piano my whole life. I took lessons, but I only really played my lesson on the day of the lesson. All week long, I'd sit down at the piano and just make up stuff. To this day, I still can't really play other people's songs, only my own. I haven't had a piano for years. I couldn't afford one. I couldn't figure out where I was sleeping at night, let alone try to have a place for a piano. So I had to put it aside and have the dream that I'd get into it. Now I really want to bring the piano out.

I'm really pleased with his being able to 'bring the piano back out'

RnT,

I'm sorry.  I am computer-illiterate.  I have the dvd of MSG 12-05-02.  My computer doesn't play dvd's.  Maybe someone else can help you...sorry.

Eva, thanks for the post, very cool.  I too, am glad that Axl brought out the piano!!!

Not sure what piece youre talking about, but I remember hearing a piano interlude that sounded a bit like Radioheads "Pyramid Song."

I think that Nov. Rain piano intro he played is going to be a big gun. It just sounds like a big song. I can see that piano building up then just break into drums n guitars....

I also think the intro Bucket and RObin played before My Michelle in Rio is another song we will be hearing....

You are an asshole and everyone knows it, how much of an asshole nobody can say, but when your an asshole dont call me an asshole...opps sorry wrong song

Personally, I don't think it sounds like Maddy.  From what everyone's saying here, I'm friggin pumped!  It sounds like we've got some original material here, and I'm willing to bet we hear this on an upcoming album.

If you have the MSG show, gimme your thoughts.  Again, it's the lead-in for November Rain.
