Title: Merck - A hands on manager?
Post by: Eva GnRAxlRosette on January 28, 2005, 08:04:44 PM
On a Morrisey fan website forum - fans were discussing an upcoming show that had not been announced... but apparently had been posted on ticket master
guess who posted to clear things up?

apparently, good ol' Merck!         (Morrisey is signed with Sanctuary)

http://www.morrissey-solo.com/articles/04/08/09/1717211.shtml

The post read:

"I would normally not post like this but I want to nip this in the bud immediately. We have not confirmed any shows past September and while we have offers to do dates all over the world - including Philadelphia - nothing is confirmed beyond September and there will certainly be no shows going on sale this weekend. When and if we confirm any shows we will let you know. In the meantime I would appreciate it if David would remove this thread in order to avoid further confusion.
Thanks to you all for your support.
Best wishes,
Merck Mercuriadis
Sanctuary Group "

btw:  some really funny similarities in comments there by the Moz (Morrisey) fans...similar to GN'R fan comments

such as :  Philly always gets canceled...

and

Whay don't you guys book more GA venues for the US tour? You know that seated venues at Moz shows can end in diaster, and then you have to end up paying the venue to replace the seats that get torn out, fans get hurt when the chairs fall on top of them, etc. A general admission show always makes the atmosphere better, which makes Morrissey perfrom better(usually), and makes everyone happy because they have a chance to be up front rather than people who don't deserve to be.

and

I doubt that morrisseymusic.com even knows there is a tour going on, the way that site is run.

and

can't morrissey do anything that doesn't result in the torture of his fans???

and

Get yourself and your artist a decent website and put an end to the half-baked attempt you are currently using. Poor management for so many reasons.

and in response to that comment, this:

poor management?? are you insane?? this is by far, hands down, not even close to any other... the best moz has been managed/promoted maybe ever and at least since the late eighties! all the albums sold. the incredible chart placement! none of that would have been possible without this label. get a fucking clue. a couple things go wrong: spain, misposted show on ticketmaster and people get worked up so fast you'd think they had years of experience themselves managing/promoting artists. morrissey will tour the u.s. soon. he said so and sanctuary said so. isn't that good enough for you?? to all of you who slag him constantly over this shit, let me ask you one question... will you still go see him when he comes to your town? of course you will. lighten up already

does ANY of this sound familiar?!!!   :hihi:

anyhow - if it was indeed Merck, cool of him to post to "nip it in the bud"  : ok:
 :peace:

seems it was legit (the post) cuz apparently shortly after (right after it actually appears) the show in question was taken down from ticketmaster's site

So who knows..?  Perhaps one day we will get a little visit or a comment from Merck here at htgth!
there's always buds that need nipping around here  ;D

Morrissey is a distinctive songster. His songs are hell anguish but humorous n heavy yet light at the same time.
the following bit is from "How soon is now?" of his days of The Smiths.

When you say it's gonna happen "now"
well, when exactly do you mean?
see I've already waited too long
and all my hope is gone

Sounds familiar? Tatu covered the piece. :-\

Moz and Axl,  Extremes meets somehow.

I been thinking more and more about how significant the move of GN'R management from BigFD to Sanctuary really was/is
(BigFD was acquired by Sanctuary).

When I think about how huge Sanctuary is and the resources they have available...? I think it bodes well for GN'R.

Sanctuary Records Group is part of the Sanctuary Group, one of the world?s leading developers of intellectual property rights (IPR?s) in the fields of music, television and entertainment and the owner of the world?s largest independently owned catalogue of music and visual rights. With an ever-growing recorded music repertoire of over 100,000 tracks, (ed:? according to Sanctuary's own site this # is now over 150,000) Sanctuary has distribution in all of the world?s major territories. Sanctuary is also a major international artist management company, representing artists from Guns ?N? Roses, Iron Maiden, Jane?s Addiction, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, The Who, Adam F and Buddahead, as well as 30 of the world?s top music producers. Through its visual rights licensing company and Europe?s largest live agency, Sanctuary can offer a complete service to artists. Other important areas of business include a television and DVD production division, which sells to over 100 countries worldwide and a burgeoning music-publishing arm.
(press release on Kissonline.com)

"We Are Unique - The only 360? international music group" (from Sanctuary.com)

"Sanctuary Group (a British-owned company which is a management organization, a record company, a promotion firm, a booking agency and more).... ?Because record companies are crumbling, we've turned into a full-service organization,? said Sales, explaining Sanctuary?s diversification. ?We have media people. We have press and television. We have radio. And we have people who just help us make videos. We've got the infrastructure. We know the record company P&Ls -- we own a record company."?? source:?http://www.narip.com/index.php?page=article/ArtistMgmt

hm... appears I've taken my own thread I started and took it off topic? ;D

well.... i feel good with GN'R and Axl being aboard Sanctuary with Merck at the helm.  : ok:

If Axl trusts the guy! So do I!!!! Sounds like this company is working on becoming one of the best. Glad GNR is going to be part of that!

Great management only works when you've got a product to be backed. I'll judge merck and sanctuary when they do something that i can see.
