is there any rumour or info that it was axl who layed down the vocals in a studio around 99
or can the vocal-part be tracked down to an old show?

All of the vocals on Rocket Queen were re-recorded.  There is not a single show (I have many) where he sounds that clean.  Exactly when he recorded the vocals is uncertain, but it is likely around 1998 or 1999.

thanks, that cleared things up a bit, i did just notice way back how fucking good and high it sounded
and recently the redoing-theory crossed my mind... nice  :)
