Title: what are the chances of 3 different cds of the same songs?
Post by: D on January 19, 2005, 07:44:53 AM
we heard Dizzy talk about the different versions etc of each new song and i got to thinking, why would axl do that if he doesnt plan on people hearing them?

a lot of bands these days i.e. Velvet Revolver do the whole 3 different album covers to try and increase sales, shania twain had a two disc set where the first disc was country mixes of the songs, the 2nd disc were rock mixes

GNR set the bar for new innovative ways to release a cd

so what if instead of 3 different album covers to choose and buy from

we get 3 different CDs with each cd containing different versions of each song?

this would capitalize and increase overall sales cause u know most GNR fans would buy all 3 copies, and they wouldnt be losing any money by doing this, since the versions have already been recorded

think about it, once the final CD is picked, besides B-sides what can he do with them?

i think this would be an ingenius strategy and would be revolutionary in the age of downloads etc.

3 albums, different versions of each song.

i think it would be awesome and would explain what has taken so long.

People seem to forget that GN'R has recorded multiple versions of the same songs in the past.

"You're Crazy" and "Don't Cry".....

Well I really wouldn't want 3 entire albums of all the same songs, to be honest. I wouldnt mind them released as b-sides and shit...or released as extra stuff for a dvd or whatever. But 3 albums of the same songs would be kind of lame in my opinion.

what would be good is a CD say 6 months after the release of ChiDem featuring:

4 or 5 songs that were diff versions of ChiDem songs
and then fill up the other 8 or so songs with versions of old gnr material

I think that would be amazing!

maybe they would show up as singles. But for the most part I think the different versions are with different band members. Ie madagascar for example.
Version one could have Axl,  robin, tommy, dizzy, paul and josh freeze.
Version two could have axl, robin, tommy, dizzy, paul, BH and Brain.
Version three would have Axl, robin, Tommy, dizzy, fortus, bh and brain.

I would rather have 3 diffrent cds of diffrent songs ?:D

Or 3 diffrent releases of 3 diffrent albums ?(if its this please release after pay day)

What would be fuckin cool is

'Chinese Democracy - 2002' (comes with re-recorded AFD)

and

'Chinese Democracy - 2005' (comes with Axl's commentary on GTA San Andreas )

That would make up for the lost time. ?: ok: Whoops there's me getting over excited again, I'm thinking of my release day plans!

What are the chances of 3 different cds of the same songs?

None.

Again, the operative term that must apply to the next release by Guns N' Roses is quality.  Not quantity.

im not saying its exactly a like with just a little bit different pieces of music here in there

not like a remix album, but the versions are actually different and sound different.

I find it to be more of a ripoff the artists who release different album covers and then re release with a few more songs added on.

With 3 different versions of the CD u could choose which one u wanted, this is assuming they would be of very high quality and each cd as good as the other.

a NIN's type Chinese Democracy *which i think was axl's initial vision* A regular GNR down and dirty rock version of Chinese Democracy and then the Epic Chinese Democracy.

ok so if that idea's bad

how about just 2 discs in one, one disc the definitive Chinese Democracy, the 2nd the experimental industrial type stuff he was workin on.

i think to put out a re recorded AFD would be a horrible idea

last thing u want to do is bring back reminders of the past and to release something that would be ridiculed and shit on by even hardcore fans

it was a good idea to help the group gel as a unit and to kind of gauge everyone's work ethic in the studio

but it should never see the light of day.

That 3-album theory would be nice for the hardcore fans like us, but for the market, the average listener? No, I don't think so. It would look like you wanna rip off people or just couldn't decide what to put out.

That's right. 3 albums are expensive to buy, it's exaggeration. 2 albums are ok like Illussions were.
Hardcore fans will always want more material either way.
Don't worry, possibly we'll find some b-sides or demo sessions of Chinese Democracy later, perhaps something like appetite for outakes.

"You're Crazy" and "Don't Cry"

yeah, of all the studio versions GN'R have done...
'You're Crazy' x 3
'Civil War' x 2 (?)
'Don't Cry' x 2 (plus Demo)
'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' x 2
'Sweet Child O' Mine' x 2

they ain't to not doing this kinda thing, i can't see Axl releasing three different version thou - i'd prefer one finished overall product i think.

He could just do a Trent Reznor did with the Head Like a Hole Maxi-Single and put like 4 versions of 3 different songs on one disc.
