Post by: groupie on January 16, 2005, 05:23:48 PM
both steve and izzy left the band. steve left in 1990 and izzy did so a year later.
so who's better? steve or matt, izzy or gilby?don't make me even start with slash and buckethead 'cause in my opinion slash is the best guitar player in the world.
opinions?

I'd say Steve v. Matt is a toss up.  I'd take Steve, but I also don't mind Matt.  Izzy v. Gilby shouldn't even be an issue.  Izzy is a founding member, and one of the main creative forces in the band.  Gilby never wrote a damn thing for GN'R.  Also he was only in the band for a couple years.  Gilby Clarke was a talented guitarist, but he had nothing to do with the greatness of GN'R.

???  What the hell does that mean?  So what if Gilby named the album.  Izzy was one of the main writers for the band from Appettite to the UYI's.  And what solo are you talking about?  I'm pretty sure Izzy's played his share of solos as well.

Steven and Izzy - would always take the original members over the replacements any day.

Izzy from a song-writing stand point, Gilby from a performance stand piont.

I was just about to post the same.  ;D

As for Steven vs. Matt...Steven was a great drummer in his better days, but he let his drug addictions get in the way of the music. Matt is good drummer also, so i'll go with Sorum on this one. Although I would be extremely interested to hear Steven play the UYI material and see if he could pull it off  :D

I doubt Steven could successfully pull it off, listen to Dead Horse's drumming,  Steven wont be able to pull that off, thats pure talent playing

Yeah, Steve's drumming is so much looser.  Matt is very technical and he gets a little boring at times.  Steve is always switching stuff up.  I prefer drummers who mix it up.
