Gn'R, Poison, Warren G, Coolio, The Stone Roses - all those songs kick ass - nice soundtrack!

That is without a doubt the greatest soundtrack ever assembled. Sweet Child O' Mine and 100 Miles and Runnin' by NWA on the same soundtrack, Genius.......

Great soundtrack but I'm sick of seeing old GNR songs comin out on things, give us something new, anything.

When they come out with GTA Martian Polar Cap 2045 you will get to hear something from NuGnr

SCOM is more of an 80's song and should of been on GTA Vice City sense it takes place in the 80's. They should of picked a song from GnR that came out in the 90's

to whoever asked the question, it will be the original recording of sweet child o' mine and not a newer version.  also, mega_music, gta (atleast the x-box versions of gta3 and vice city) have something even better.  there is a radio station where you can upload whatever songs you want and play that while listening to the car radio.  sure, it would have been better if they put an early 90s gn'r song into the soundtrack but sweet child o' mine is probably my favorite guns song so i dont mind.  but, regardless, they couldn't put scom in vice city because that game was set in '84, before appetite was released.

Guns N Roses roots were out in LA in 84 and they were playing clubs. I don't see why it wouldnt fit into GTA VC. Its a make believe city. Besides SCOM along with Ganster Rap and a Ganster Themed game.. THey should of just used My World it would fit as much into the ganster theme

It makes me wonder how they could use an old version of SCOM without having Axl put a stop to it.  

Side note, even though it is a gangsta character this time, the new GTA will kick major ass.  They have had enough time to work on this game, should be one of the best ever made.

it's the same engine as the previous 2. I know it will be good, but it's just going to be the same thing with a few new vehicles types.

Hopefully GTA 4 will come out later for the Xbox. Then, like with 3, I can play my own tracks on the games radio. I can have a station with nothing but new GNR if I wanted to.

I remember thinking that but the actual storyline of GTA Vice City takes place a couple of years before GN'R were signed.

What Axl has a problem with is current movies using his songs from the 80's/90's when modern recordings from the current band are available. But this game is supposed to be 80's/90's, so it wouldn't make much sense to use the new recordings.

SCOM did seem a little out of place in that game.  I mean my god, Jungle is about urban decay.

Yeah I just heard it. Jungle is incredible and eminently suited to this game. Hopefully a new generation of fans will have the opportunity to discover what one of the greatest bands of all time sounds like and equally important, what real music is.

i dunno if people will hear gnr for the first time or not but i dont think it'll get new fans from other genres because rap fans probably wont turn on the rock station..

dont forget that the song is the official theme song for the television commercials too from what I know .. so I think ALOT of people will indeed hear GNR for the first time because of this game.  : ok:

I think even Axl couldn't turn down the opportunity for a massive profit and exposure due to the hellacious sales this game is gonna do.  GTA 3 sold over 12 million and GTA Vice sold over 13 million so San Andreas is destined to set records.  Only a total fool would say no to the chance at having their music on this game.

anyone over 10 years old that hasnt heard WTTJ yet must've been living under a rock their entire life, im sure it will make a few people realize that its a cool song that probably always just thought of it as some 80's music and never cared to listen to the lyrics or anything but as far as people hearing it for the first time i dont see there being many of those.  And i can see how some people think its dumb since the game is based in the early 90's and they're using a song from 87 but GNR were really at their peak in the early 90's and WTTJ fits the game better then any other in the GNR library so i can accept it

For whatever reason Jungle is actually on the Alternative radio station.? Seems a little strange to me, since when were GNR alternative?? I have been checking around for info about the leak and I haven't seen a mention of Axl yet, but I'll keep looking.

EDIT--I downloaded the script file for the game and it does in fact list Axl Rose as the voice of the KDST DJ.

It sounds quite a bit like Axl...the inflection is dead-on....you can listen to it by going to www.rockstargames.com/sanandreas and clicking the "soundtrack" button, then clicking the buttons until you find KDST.

This file basically lists all the credits for the voices included in the game. Notice the name "Axl Rose" is listed under this list. You can find this file in most P2P networks. So this might indicate that this particular DJ is indeed Axl. Hey, maybe Axl will reveal the release date of C-Democracy while doing his "DJ duties" while you're nicely running over a citizen. :hihi:

We're all now fairly certain that it is Axl doing the voice of a Radio DJ on the station K-DST, a classic rock station.  Welcome to the Jungle is featured in the commercial for the game, and also on the Alternative station Radio:X.  We know Axl often doesnt like his songs used on soundtracks, so I think chances are he got involved with the game somehow before he agreed.

Has anyone heard what he acutally says or do we have to wait for the game to be released to hear this.

I'm not really a gamer, but its a cool idea...Axl never surprises me with the things he gets up to.

Maybe they convinced him to do the voice over by having the ability to knock or shoot a Buckethead...

There's other "surprises" too, scattered throughout the game.  The guys at Rockstar have the sentiment that this is their "kitchen sink" release.  They've thrown everything cool, neat, awesome, interesting, and exciting that they could possibly think of into SA.  Just based on some of the cool things I've heard, as good as Halo 2 looks, I think this will be the Game of the Year.....and a Classic that will stand the test of time, to boot.

I think it sounded enough like him to get me to ask about it. :)  When I saw the thread, my first thought was "Yeah, right"....but then I listened to the clip.  Sounded like him to me, so I shot an email off.  That person confirmed it was Axl.  I can't see any reason why they would lie to me, nor can I see how they could possibly be wrong. So, I think we can safely assume it's Axl.

I only listened to the first part, and it was definitely him.  I didn't realize he spoke again, and now I can't get back to the site.  But that's definitely him.

Pilferk, as I understand things, the game was being sold today.  There were numerous leaks, so some stores started selling it if they had it.  This information comes from two people I talk to online who both claim to have see it for sale.  One lives outsiide of Atlanta, the other lives in the Dallas area.  I don't recall the Dallas store, but I believe the Atlanta was an EBgames.  Hope that helps, and for the record I am 100% certain that that is Axl Rose talking :)

I wonder if there is gonna be any more bits of axl talking during the game?? That was just a preview clip. He may have a couple more lines in the full version of the game. I'm sure each radio station has at least 10 songs, i would imagine that axl has a couple more lines in between songs.

I don't think it's coming out anytime soon, BUT...they did say right around Thanksgiving was the target (just like last year), which would give them about four weeks.

  I'm in the air about this one. The first time I listened to it, it didin't sound a thing like him. When I played it back again, it still sounded kinda funny. Maybe it was the distortion, or maybe it was the music in the background. But everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, and there's no reason to go jumping down people's throats.

it's quite clearly him. the intonation of the voice is pretty trademark. he has hushed his voice a little bit, but the style is very familiar.

Being pretty crap with computers could someone please explain to me why when i press play nothing happens and yes i did read what someone said about let the thing fill up pressing stop then play again and that did not work either.? This is officially 100% true.  I got my issue of OPM today and they have the first official review of the game.  As one of the sidebars to the review featured at the bottom of one of the pages it says in big red letters:

Not a ton of detail on the minigames...Among the ones they mention are dancing, gambling in the casinos, driving trains, robberies. Nothing that hasn't been mentioned before. But it also appears that there's so much in the game that they couldn't possibly cover it all, and the reviewer does say that "I've shot a basketball and scored from 114 feet," so not sure what else there is.


As far as multi-player, it talks about two-player rampage missions. There are on-foot rampage missions and vehicle rampages, where one player drives and the other shoots.

No, but I don't like that fact that they're turning such a great game into The Sims. I have no desire to play a game where you have to feed the main character and keep him exercised.

After you click the button "4" wait for the progress bar to fill up. The button itself is the progress bar.

He's not making the album for the fans.  He's making it for himself, that's why he doesn't fill anyone in on what his progress is on Chinese Democracy.

If and when Rockstar ever approaches you and asks you to be featured in a video game that is destined to sell over 13 million copies aren't you gonna drop whatever the hell you're doin' and go running?  I would and obviously Axl did too.  It was a chance to go have some fun and get his foot in the door on the hefty return investment the game will bring in as well.

Axl actually being in the game is so damn awesome.  That's the greatest news I've heard in a while and only adds to the anticipation of getting my grubby hands on this game.

I'd bet about a day or two....and it could have been done in his home studio, via dat, and shipped back to the sound guys for QA...if he REALLY didn't want to go in to record with them.  But I bet he did.

For Axl I'm guessing not much since he was just talking.  I doubt he went over and over what he said until he got it right so probably just a couple days.

As far as GTA SA itself I can imagine the whole game has been quite an undertaking.  We usually get a new installment of the franchise once a year.  Its been two full years since the last game (Vice City).

On the other GTA games there is always an option on the 'pause menu' to listen to any of the radio stations without the background noise of the game.? I usually just hook the audio cables from the PS2 directly into my computer and feed it right in from there.? If your computer doesn't have the capabilities for that you can always hook your PS2 audio into an auxilary port on your home stereo or something similar that has that function and put it on a cassette and transfer it to CD using a regular burner.? All GTA radio stations usually have an hour-long material duration before the station loops back to the beginning.

Anyone else take this as a sign of good faith?

Maybe the album is done and Axl used some of his time to do this gig while the album is in the final mastering stages like Stinson said it was?

What an amazing commercial! The scenes and the music are so well put together, I think it'll go down as one of the greatest video game commercials ever. It gives WTTJ a whole new life for the 21st century. Of course, WTTJ is one of only a few songs ever that I can listen to over and over again and never ever get sick of it. I was overcome with emotion watching the commercial because based on what I reading here, this is an Axl Rose production - this is something that he probably backed harder for than any of the former members. And to consider how hard it is to license GNR songs for anything these days - they did it in such a way as to enhance the legacy of GNR and this will certainly have some younger fans checking out GNR material in the months to come.

The only shame is that AXL has so much talent - in 1993 he was talking about taking on acting roles in addition to GNR (and rumors of a solo career and in music production). ??? But his life and his music career has become such a mystery (and in many cases a mess) and I have to wonder if this is really the best he can do in the last 11 years away from the spotlight - cuz if being a DJ in a video game is the only way he can promote himself and his abilities, that's sad. Perhaps it may be the beginning of something, but I doubt it. We've had other signs of more promise and he's let the fans down every time.

I'm glad at least he's doing something and that it was done well, but he's gotta stop hiding - whether its in his hotel room, in a strip club, in his mansion, in Buenos Aires Agentina, or even in a video game  character and show the world a 2nd wind.

On topic, yeah the Alternative station has a better selection. I'm glad to see GNR among them.

The game is officially out in the US tomorrow, but preorders will be able to get it tonight around 7 in most places.  I've got about 3 hours before I go to pick it up.  I probably won't be able to post any spoilers before Friday because I might still be playing the game then.

I got a copy of GTA:SA yesterday and managed about 2 hours of game time. First thing i did was get into a car and tuned into K-DST. Well, one thing's for sure : Axl (if indeed is really him) plays the DJ Tommy 'Nightmare' Smith. I cannot be 100% sure it's him, at times it sounds spot on like Axl and on others, sound slightly different. BUT there were 2 instances (there might be more, but these 2 are the ones i heard) where there is a direct (indirect?) reference to GNR and himself: -

1. "As i said before, all you in need in life is a little patience" - Tommy "Nightmare" Smith  ;D

2. Caller : "Hello, why is all the other ex-members of your band famous and you're....not?"
   Tommy : "I know alot of people who use my name/me for their own personal gain like the president(?) , etc, etc" - sorry can't remember the exact words......

To be honest, his tone sound almost humourous and i think he did a pretty good voice-acting job. Nevertheless, it's sure nice to hear something from tha man (if indeed it is really him) and also hearinf Jungle while driving  : ok:

I can almost guarantee that Axl plays these grand theft auto games, so if he endorses it and puts his voice in there he isnt selling out.

If an artist, athlete,movie star whatever really enjoys a product i dont find it selling out if they endorse it.

I don't know why some people doubted it...

After listening to most of his lines they definitely sound like they were written by him.? There are too many coincidences to his real personality and the things that have gone on and are going on in his life.?

And to anyone still doubting Axl's presence in the game for whatever reason I'll go ahead and throw my name in the hat as well and say without a shadow of a doubt that it IS indeed him.

I'd doubt he actually wrote them, more likely that they were written with his own situation in my mind.

I'm not disagreeing with that but just saying that it would've had to have been someone pretty close to him in order to pull it off.  And if someone else did write them originally you can bet your bottom dollar that Axl tweaked a few things here and there before recording them.

Man, I am still going to wait till GTA: SA hits the Xbox. I think it is coming Summer 2005. The versions of 3 and Vice City were way better for the Xobs, and I have no doubt this will too. But damn, this game keeps sounding better and better. Thank god AAA games like Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2, and Prince of Persia 2, are coming out, or I would have to plunk down the 50 to get the game now. The new GTA is way too long a game to play right now, with all these others coming starting in 2 weeks. This GTA sounds fucking sweet though. 150+ hours to complete...jesus christ that is crazy.

Yes it is me, I am once again BACK at the Here Today Gone To Hell forums after my latest hiatus and this time I will be back for good and I have something to say: It's about f*cking time Axl has actually said something (even if it has nothing to do with the album) and he actually did it where it hits 13-49 year old male crowd the most, video games! I love my PS2 as much as the next person and didn't even need motivation to buy the game, but Axl sealed the deal.

I have only one question though, how can you have enough time to record voice work for a game, yet can't even write a simple press release about the new album.

I rather enjoyed the GTA Vice City and possibly end up buying this too eventually.
I'd like to know if they have tweaked the controls since Vice City??As long as you were behind the wheel, controls were pretty godlike but when walking/running..things often got really annoying. Camera being a bit too close and all that. Any improvements there?
It's really fucking annoying Sony is rich enough to be able to buy some games out; rockstargames has agreed not to release GTA SA on any other consoles/PC for atleast a year.

In the little time I played Fuck was the word thrown around more than any other word. Axl's radio station sounds great! The whole game is smooth quick and has the great game feel.

He didn't write them.  I can't remember who the writing credits go to (DJ Pooh and Lazarus....maybe..I'll check), but it's not Axl.  That being said, they knew who the talent was during the script process.  I'm sure there are lines in there to reflect his "personality".

First off, this game rocks hard.  But that is nothing, it wasn?t an easy feat to accomplish but I managed to rip all of Axl?s comments from the game and ?burn? them onto an old 45 EP.  Taking the recorded EP with all of Axl?s comments, I played the album backwards, that is right backwards at a rate of 34.67 PB at the same time listening to an original vinyl copy of ?Live Like A ?.? And burning 3 black candles containing Vince Neil?s pee.

Buddha_Master i agree with you , the game looks cool , but there are games coming soon that look better , Halo 2 , Metal gear solid 3 , Ace Combat 5 . i mean its my opinion , i like more that games than the GTA series , but i know there are people that prefer the GTA . but the game was release when to many good games are coming by and i prefer to play the others , also Xbox live is a big competition for this "one player games" because im playing fifa and rainbow in there so GTA  is going to have to wait.

Here in Ontario, Canada, The ontario government decided not to ban the GTA video game, but addresses parents of the children who play it to pay attention to what they do.? Apparently the game prompts a warning!  Must be bad ass!

Whilst watching James Bond on ITV in England last night, during the adverts I went to make a cup of tea and I heard Jungle start blaring out of the TV. As it turned out it was the advert for that new computer game that Axl is on. I ent got no interest for the game cos I hate computer games but, fuck me it was wicked to hear Jungle played all the way through an advert on prime time British evening television. Just kind of gets ya going for what we hope is gonna be a massive few months for Guns fans!!

Now it would have been real interesting if AXL DJ'd Radio X, where he would have had to introduce WTTJ and STP.  Would have loved to hear the STP intro!

Edit:? There's LOTS of DJ banter.? I've been listening, exclusively, to K-DST, and while the playlist repeats, it doesn't sound like the DJ banter, promos, etc are on the same "loop".? I've heard at least 3 different DJ intros to the same song...and the banter is pretty freaking funny.?

I could be dead wrong but I remember a show where Gnr played with metallica and Sebastian Bach and James Hetfield played some song the crowd didn't know. i think it's sad that everyone is so damn exited about axl doing freaking voice over work for gta....i mean, are you that starved for something from axl that every time there is a recording of his voice you shoot your loads?  maybe if there was some clue in the game that hinted at CD's release, or maybe if there was a clip of a new gnr song in the game...but there is nothing that great about axl saying a bunch of one-liners...sad...has everyone forgotten how long we've been waiting for CD...this just won't do...you can't forget about all the delays and bullshit just because axl recorded 10 minutes of dialogue for a video game

sometime ago "they" were talkin' something about summer/fall 2005  :-\ ...not sure if there's new info about it..

The Xbox version will probable come out around next Christmas hopefully the will add online play that would kick ass.

Er, you know what sucks? My bro in law was over tonight. Usually cool. He got GTA. I asked him if he knew Axl was the DJ on the radio station Kdust in the game. It turned into a big argument with me being put into a situation of defending Axl and Chinese Democracy. That was so fucking weak that I had to do that. Hasn't happened in awhile where I was put into a situation of sticking up for him. I said it before, but its so hard being an Axl fan.

So true, I don't actually think it's been that to be a fan easy since about 1991. Alot of people decided they werent "cool" with the rise of grunge and alternative but that never mattered to me. I loved all those other bands, but I was forever defending GN'R especially Axl.

I honestly think it's been in the last year or two that GN'R (old lineup) have really received the credit and dues they deserve - they're starting to get spoken of in the same sentences as some of the great bands and rightfully so...

For it to be funny I think putting him on DST was a classic fit sense he was playing a washed up music star from the 70's. The alternative station in the game is like the new music of 1992, it would be hard for Axl to be a dj complaining about new music and being on a new music station.

Just seen the ad on tv again and it's been bugging me from the first time i saw it. I know the track is chopped up a bit, to get the best for the ad'..... BUT is that a new version? Listen to it carefully, it dosen't sound like old AFD Jungle (IMO). Rumors from ages ago said Axl wanted to do AFD Redux.

Apparently a different version of WTTJ is played when you do a certain thing in the game. This hasn't been verified yet, but I think people should rally up and try and make it happen again. I will try myself later.

If anyone has GTA5 on this board give it a shot and see if it works, even better record the track. Here are the instructions on how to get the so called new WTTJ to play. If anyone can confirm this it would be great!

Start a new game, do the first few missions, driving you friend around and stuff then go to the airport, or do no missions and go. I'm not sure if it will work if you have done a bunch of the game already and then go back to the first airport. It might though.

Go into the terminal up to the departure gates or at least drive around as close as you can get. There are a bunch of cops around driving by, and you'll see some amatience trucks drive by at some point too, jump out and steal one when a cop can see you, the stars light up and WTTJ comes on.

You might be able to steal any car in front of a cop inside the airport and get it to work, not sure, just make sure you get up to the terminal when you do it and make sure the cop sees you.

Yes I did, you have my word it's in the game for whatever that's worth. It's not a waste of anyones time except mine, I'm sorry I posted it because people just assume it's a lie. I was totally excited about this but I think it'll be better if everyone just waits for some videogame geek to post runthroughs of the game with all the hidden stuff so they can do it exactly right.

Echris that's the best I can do. It was after a few short missions that I drove to the airport, after the pizza guy tred to kill us because they tried to rob him. you know that part of the game right? well I drove easy E looking guy back to his house after that, did something else and then went to the airport.

Alright, I wonder if you have to have done some missions first ... I'm going to try this for a bit longer, then I'll probably give up and let someone try to pull the file off the disc.

EDIT:  I guess the part I'm having the hardest time with is finding one of those utility trucks, I've only seen one once so far, and it drove away before I could get to it.  Is there a specific place that you stand that causes them to spawn more often?  Do you always drive the same type of car, and if so, what kind is it (the type of car you drive affects other car's spawn rates, I think)?

Alright, I did it.  At the airport, I stole a utility van, in front of a cop.  Got a wanted star, but no welcome to the jungle on the radio.  If this is in the game, you cannot do it at the very beginning of the game.

Any word on the XBOX version yet?  I am enjoying Halo2 while I wait.  That games needs a GNR soundtrack!!

All i can tell you is it worked for me, I'm sure some game geek will find it and make it easy for everyone. It was the white utility vehicle with the ladder on back? there are a few of them, any should work. I don't know why it didn't.

Yeah, it was the white one with the ladder, called the utility van.  Only thing I can think is that you have to do some missions first ...

It seems every other commerical break leads into the Grand Theft Auto commerical with WTTJ playing in the background.  It pisses me off that Guns N' Roses is being whored out like this.  I know that Axl serves as a DJ voice in the game and I know the game itself is pretty kickass.  However, I (as I'm sure many of you) feel that GN'R are kind of my special thing.  I know they were mainstream and I know everyone knows of them, but you'd be amazed at how many people my age (early-mid 20s) have no fucking clue what songs they played.  I was at a party last week playing a game involving naming songs, and when I brought up paradise city these girls had no clue what the song was or who even wrote it.  While I know this obviously wouldn't be the case with people in their mid-early 30s, it is the younger audience that is going to make or break Chinese Democracy when it is released.  Since the majority of consumers of GTA will be teenagers and young adults, I think that the overuse of WWTJ is gonna tire the young audience and possibly turn them off to any future GN'R releases; meaning Chinese Democracy.  Conversely, one could argue that the commercialization of WTTJ could lead the youth to pursue other songs by GNR and discover the genius of AFD and the UYIs, however since Emimen and Britney ::) represent the taste of today's generation I find this unlikely.  I know plenty of you will disagree with me on this, but I think that GTA whoring out WTTJ takes away from the meaning and depth of GN'R.  Just my opinion, your thoughts and opinions are welcome.

i don't really like it when any band sells their songs for commercials or games or what not.
But it seems like this trend is here to stay and there's nothing you can do about it so i try to look at the positives.

No, it doesn't piss me off... if something like this pissed me off, I would be complaining that Welcome to the Jungle gets played at every fuckin' sporting event for the past decade.  It's the best thing Axl has done in a long time, and lending a song to a video game like GTA is certainly not "whoring it out".

first of all i don't think one single comercial of that caliber can overuse wttj, it's not like jamba or anything close to that he he. i mean, guns never appear on anything unless it's really fucking special so i think most can agree on the fact that guns hasn't been whored out commercially, and imo gta5 is one of those special things that guns should appear on.... it's not a best seller, it's a fucking record braker, the game is vintage classic or something... plus wttj is what, 18 years old

And a good thing about it could be that the names gn'r and w. axl rose comes to the attention of 15million young gamers(at lest those who scam the booklet). With those two names fresh in their minds and a new gn'r record out, gh and vr has had their wirl, could be pretty good timeing if you ask me. :o

I saw the commercial for the game yesterday on TV here in Holland. I didn't read the thread because it's 22 pages long so I don't know if this has already been brought up but; is that the original WTTJ that is used?

It sounded different to me, especially the drums. Maybe it's just edited a little for TV but could it be they used the re-recorded version?

With all the hype surrounding the presidential election. it's okay if you missed the other big story of 2004: the release of Axl Rose's first newly recorded material in more than five years. No it doesn't piss me off that WTTJ is being used. It's great promotion to give the public a reminder of Guns N' Roses.. whats so bad about that?

Sorry if this is already common knowlege, but I saw a GTA/SA commercial that had WTTJ, Intro and first few verses of the song, last night.

I know everyone knows that Axl did the voice of one of the DJ's in the game, but had you seen this commercial with WTTJ in it?

I gotta be honest , I LOVE GTA SA , but the main reason I still play it after beating the game a few months ago is cause of KDST!

Seriously , axl is fucking GREAT as the radio guy tommy "the nitemare"  ... has everyone here been able to hear everything he says in the game yet? Has an mp3 been posted of his "spot" on the game? It is really good guys. Some really funny quotes.

Well the add I'm refferin' to is the one aired in Ireland/England. At the bottom at the end in the little white writing it said Welcome to the Jungle - Guns n' Roses from the Album Apettite for Destruction C 1987, that means the old band

The GTA:SA commercial changed my life. Before I heard Axl yell "Welcome to the Jungle, We Got Fun N' Games!" i had little interest in any music. Since November (i picked up GN'Rs Greatest Hits), I've been listening to GN'R non-stop. By Christmas they were the most important part of my life (not counting family, friends). I now walk around school yelling at my idiotic Nirvana-loving friends and just having a good time listening to this musical bliss. Thank God for GTA: SA, WttJ, and Guns N' Roses =)

GTA-San Andreas is really awesome. K-DST radio playlist is fantastic. It's really great "classic-rock" music, and it's great to hear Axl when you drive a car :yes:

Just wanted to resurrect  this topic because I started playing San Andreas on the Xbox. Hearing Axl is really fucking awesome. What is so damn cool is hearing how fucking happy he sounds. Its still strange as shit that this is the only thing he has produced (that has seen a release) since OMG came(in uh...was that '98?) out. He sounds good and its real fucking cool taking out thugs and bitches while hearing Axl spin some Rock tracks for my listening pleasure. I love this shit. Having a blast playing it. Damn, it is weird though. Still can't see how he got up to do this but can't for his own brand.

'Grand Theft Auto' Gets 'Adults Only' Rating

SAN FRANCISCO ? The video game industry on Wednesday changed to adults-only the rating of "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," a best-selling title in which explicit sexual content can be unlocked with an Internet download.

The decision followed intense pressure from politicians and media watch groups.

Grand Theft Auto's producer, Rockstar Games, said it was now working on a new version of the game that would satisfy the original "M" for mature rating. It said it would provide new labels to any retailer willing to continue selling the version currently on store shelves.

Rockstar's parent, Take Two Interactive, also admitted for the first time Wednesday that the sex scenes had been built into the retail game ? not just the PC version but also those written for Xbox and PlayStation2 consoles.

Company officials had previously suggested that a modification created by outsiders added the scenes to the game, last year's best seller in consoles.

"There is sex content in the disc," Take-Two spokesman Jim Ankner told The Associated Press. "The editing and finalization of any game is a complicated task and it's not uncommon for unused and unfinished content to remain on the disc."

The sex scenes, inserted in a game whose main character seeks bloody vengeance on gang-filled streets while pickup scantily clad women, had prompted outrage from parent's groups and politicians including Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.

In a statement, the president of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) said the sex scenes were programmed by Rockstar "to be inaccessible to the player."

But ESRB chief Patricia Vance also acknowledged that the "credibility and utility" of the industry-run board's initial "M" rating had been "seriously undermined."

Many retailers sell "M" rated games, which "may be suitable for persons ages 17 and older," according to the rating board. but won't sell "AO"-labeled games at all.

Take-Two also said Wednesday that it expects to suffer financially. It lowered its expectations for its current quarter and fiscal year to set aside funds for returns of the games, and figured that net sales could decrease by more than $50 million during the quarter ending July 31.

Shares of Take-Two rose 12 cents to close at $27.07 on the Nasdaq, but later dropped $3.07, or 11.3 percent, in after-hours activity.

The ratings change was vindication for Patrick Wildenbourg, the Dutch programmer who developed and freely distributed the modification that unlocked the controversial content in the game's PC version.

Such "mods" are wildly popular in the hardcore gaming community and ? authorized or not ? exploit the medium's interactive nature to extend the playing life of many popular titles.

Take-Two president Paul Eibeler stressed in a statement that only an unauthorized "mod" makes the sex scenes available, and said "the decision to re-rate a game based on an unauthorized third party modification presents a new challenge for parents, the interactive entertainment industry and anyone who distributes or consumes digital content."

That prompted an angry reaction from David Walsh, founder of the National Institute on the Media and the Family, a Minneapolis-based group that monitors the industry.

Walsh criticized Rockstar for what he called a "carefully worded statement" that leaves the impression that "modders" are responsible for the content. "They did not take responsibility for the fact that this code was created within their company and placed on disks and shipped to responsible retailers."

The Parents Television Council, another group that monitors sex and violence in the media, said it was pleased with the rating switch but called on Rockstar to voluntarily recall the game and offer refunds to anyone who purchased it.

"I tip my cap to that first step of showing responsibility," said Tim Winter, the council's executive director. "Phase two needs to be absolutely getting to the bottom of this coding issue. How did it get into that game? How did it get past the ratings board?"

The ESRB was formed 11 years ago amid congressional pressure to crack down on violent video games. The board now issues ratings for more than 1,000 game titles each year.

Game makers must submit a lengthy form describing the most extreme content, and turn over visual samples and scripted dialogue as each game nears the final stages of development.

The House of Representatives has overwhelmingly called for investigation into the companies behind the game.

The uproar is over explicit sexual scenes in the game that can be unlocked with software created by a fan.

Last week the game was given an adults-only rating, leading big US stores to stop selling the title.

The rating change led to shops such as Wal-Mart, Target, Circuit City and Best Buy removing the game from their shelves.

GTA's publisher, Take Two, initially denied the scenes were part of the game but later admitted the scenes were contained in the retail version of San Andreas.

'Profit from deceit'

The controversy reached the halls of Congress on Monday.

The House of Representatives voting 355 to 21 for a federal investigation to determine if the companies behind San Andreas intentionally deceived the industry's ratings board.

"The release of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was widely anticipated, but an adults-only rating would have severely limited its sales in retail outlets," said Congressman Fred Upton of Michigan.

"It appears that the publisher has blatantly circumvented the rules in order to peddle sexually explicit material to our youth, and they should be held accountable. A company cannot be allowed to profit from deceit."

The vote follows calls by US senator Hillary Clinton for an investigation into who put the sex scenes into San Andreas.

Rockstar Games has stopped producing the current version of the game and is working on a version that will qualify for the M rating.

GTA: San Andreas was one of the best-selling games of 2004. The title already has an 18 age rating in the UK.

The GTA series of games has created controversy in the past. Previous versions have been criticised by parent groups and lawmakers for their depictions of violence and sex.

I also have to point out in case some of you don't know, to "accidentaly" get to see the sex scenes you have to find a site that has it, download it to your hard drive, find the file and install it to the correct folder. Thats some fucking accident.

I think it's an awful mighty fine coincidence that this hack became known right after the X-Box version of San Andreas came out, and Rockstar is once again, getting tons of free publicity.

There titles have been pulled from shleves across the country and they are facing a giant lawsuit - unless u think they are fantastically stupid its not even remotely likely this is deliberate

Also if u'd check ur facts, this 'mod' applies to the PC and PS2 versions.....

The discussion about the sex scenes in San Andreas is maybe one of the most ridiculous (though quite typical american) ones I have ever heard of.
In a game where you shoot, stab and drive people to death all the time, do not forget the cussing, how could anyone with an IQ over 15 even dare to get all hyped up about some boring "sex scenes" (which are usually not even in the game, only after you patched it!??).

Personally I like playing San Andreas, even admitting that maybe little kids should not play it. But this double moral makes me sick: Kill someone --> Great; Sleep with someone --> evil, bad, downfall of society...

I know - its hilarious, wouldn't u just love to meet these people and try and understand the way they think (or don't think)

Using a combine harvester in a crowded street is okay, but sex between consenting adults in private :nervous:, think of the children - if they see this, they might be tempted to do it! :o :hihi:
