Title: Green Day on VR
Post by: Fretzo on January 08, 2005, 04:10:11 PM
In the January 2005 issue of SPIN magazine Green Day and Juliette Lewis rate the hits of 2004 including "Slither".

Velvet Revolver "Slither"
(Sunset Strip supergroup's excellently gnarly debut single)
Lewis: I got one word. All capital letters: COCK.
Dirnt: There's alot of cock ridin' around in that band.
Cool: And a little too much middle-aged man-flesh for my liking.
Lewis: It's the darkest, cockiest cock rock ever. It's sweaty, it's filthy, it's incredible.
Armstrong: I like to take OxyCotin and listen to this.

yeah, the guys in Green Day are like 30-31. Weiland is 35 or 36 and the rest are around 40. Not a real huge difference.

For Green Day I have one word. All capital letters: NERDS

Slither is one of the best rock songs I have heard in years.  Slash's guitar solo in Slither is absultely incredible.  It is such a rocking song.  Makes American Idiot look like garbage.

Slither is fucking awesome, although I don't find the solo anything spectacular for Slash. It's not bad or anything but that riff is one of the smoothest, coolest riffs in a long ass time. Definately better than that song American Idiot. I do like the new Green Day single that they play all the time though..

For all of you guys who say the new Green Day album sucks, take the wax out of your ears and listen to the damn record before you speak.

As for the Green Day boys comments on Slither, I agree with Falcon, I don't think they hammered the song.

On a side note, didn't Juliette Lewis sing a song in a movie she starred with Ralph Fiennes? Anybody remember the title?

Who cares if the GD guys like or dislike VR or Contraband or Slither? Sorry, I don't. If Jimmy Page, Mick Jagger, John Petrucci etc. said something about VR, that would be interesting. But GD? Oh, no. I'm not even interested in Britney's, Pink's, Courtney Love's or Good Charlotte's opinion.

She's also fronting her own band, "Juliette and The Licks" with former Hole member Patty Schemel on drums..

The only comment that I found insulting was the reference to taking a Oxycotin and ?then listening to the song. Oxycotin is a pain relief drug. So basically I think he's saying it's painfull to listen to. But who really cares, it's Green Day, nuff said. I think they're just having some fun.

Or perhaps, ?their a little miffed from having to go on stage after VR at the Almost acoustic Christmas. For those of us that saw it VR just killed. Green day as good of band as they are didn't have a chance. VR were on top of their game that night.

Cheers,

Blair

I wouldn't be interested in their opinion even if they said CB was the best album of the decade. I don't like them and I find their comments about music irrelevant.

For the past 10 years I have HATED Green Day's guts, but American Idiot is a great album, at least as good as CB.

As far as the singles go, Slither and American Idiot are both great Rock songs, but Boulevard of broken dreams kicks Fall to pieces' ass

I have lost my respect for green day even more.

Green day are the equivelent of busted.

I couldnt give two shits about Green Day's comments or anybody elses comments anymore. Is it just Cowboy, or does it seem Celebrities/Musicians just look who is at the top of their mountain and try and pick a fight with them to get free publicity. Look at the Evanesence Skank talking about how Velvet Revolver doesnt impress her. So what her song has stupid redubbs and very bad rapping.  The only reason celebrities talk trash is Media outlets will pick it up and then they will get publicity. No magazine is gonna print an article entitled "Green gives two thumbs up to VR" It has no shock value, where as "Green gives VR two middle fingers up" the shock value will get both Green Day and VR fans to read it.  This never ending cycle will never stop so that is why you can't take celebrities opinions too serious.

On a side note when most bands are adapting to the newest fad, rather then distorting themselfs even more or adding a Rapper to the band Green Day added more MUSICIANS and made an album that is far better then their last efforts and I enjoy them for that.

Once in awhile they come along with a good on ethough. I like that song "Warning" and the new one that is always on although it is getting boring fast, not "American Idiot".

Well you are the only one that cannot seem to understand that music is subjective and that you do not have to write IMO before every statement.  And you always dodge questions like this.   So tell me how am I stating my opinion is fact?  I didnt put quotes around my statments and give a source as fact, i didnt say its a fact that the album AI is better than contraband. so tell me how am I not stating my opinion. I guess your memory is not very good since you always bring up this stupid point and I have to keep explaining it to you its just an opinion. Why is it that 99% of the board understands that but you? (Sigh)

I was being facetious to point out the hypocrisy youve displayed by repeatedly chastising me for "stating my opinion as fact."  I understand that an opinion doesnt have to be introduced with "IMO," thats why I never do so.  However you didnt understand this concept, which is why you accused me of stating my opinion as fact.  Do you understand?  My post was ironic.  I see youre very proud of 'setting me straight,' but unfortuntely you just missed the point as usual. ::no  Speaking of irony, when asked when Ive ever dodged questions (obviously thered have to be a lot of instances to "always" do it), you dodged the question.  The irony/hypocrisy of your posts never ceases to amaze.  Now please get back to the topic.  Thanks

Green Day, like anybody else, can say what they want about VR, for all I care.  Everybody has the right to their opinion.  Anyway, it's not like they're doing any hardcore dissing of the Velvets, really.  They're just taking a few playful jabs at them.  Nothing wrong with that.

Now, I personally prefer American Idiot to Contraband.  American Idiot is this huge punk-rock opera filled with great songs, while Contraband is to me an average rock record, albeit with a few pretty good songs.  But it doesn't matter.  They're both good bands.  I just think that Green Day is currently breaking more new ground, and there's less filler on their record.  But hey, VR can tell me to fuck off.

Facts are Facts. Green Day Have written Anthems in the Punk Rock Category. Contraband Has no anthems in It. Dookie Was a Massive Hit worldwide. Contraband Wasn't.

VR have yet to prove how big Group They Are.

So Leave Green Day alone to their entitled  Opinion.

VR have had less than a year to prove themselves, but they already have done a lot more than that.

Unless you can prove that Green day were such a hit after a few months of getting together, you're wrong.

That is why i Said VR Have Yet To Prove how Big they are. For The Moment they are just a very good Rock Group but nothing Significant.

You are Right By saying VR Achieved More In Less Time Than Green Day But Do You Ever Thought Why?

It Seems Mainly Because Of Their Past Glories and Second Because of Their Musical Efforts.
Thay Had A Contract in A Big record Company, Music Sountracks, Plenty Of Interviews in Big Magazines and hundrends of Pre-orders Just From Their Names. Green Day Had Nothing Of That When They Started on their 1st Album.

Time Will Tell But I Am Afraid VR Won't Reach The Expectations And They Will Not reach their Full Potential.

Your "decision" sounds like you picked one band to like, and then labelled the other one shit.

I'm not saying Green Day put on a better show than VR, but they certainly aren't so far below them that they "need lessons".  If you actually HAVE seen Green Day live, then you should've noticed that they can entertain their crowds, maintain a high energy level for their entire set, and play the shit out of their instruments.

Just like the whole VR album.

Yup you are right again.   ::)

It's amazing that since nothing's happenin' with Axl's band, you are bitching here in the VR sections. You are the Dead Horse of the board.

Like I said before, until people like tomass stop baiting me to come on this board, then I will keep posting. He got his wish  and now he is bitching about me posting here again.

Had someone acted like you in the general GN'R discussion, he would have been banned for 1000 times until now. I don't mind if you sometimes share your doubts or harsh feelings with us, but what you're doing is quite boring and ridiculous.

For the tenth time, I didn't bait you to do shit. You were here for weeks pissing every one before that post was ever posted...If you weren't here acting like a tool all the time , that wouldn't have happened.

That is funny, booker, tomass and a few others say the same kind of stuff on the gnr board that I do on this board, but its ok that they do it over there but god forbid someone does it over here.?

So let me get this straight. I cannot give my opinion how I dont like contraband or that I think BBD is better than YGNR yet people can say how they dont like Axls new songs or think that robin cant play etc etc?

Again just how hypocritical people like you are.

I just find it so amazing that people care so much about my comments about VR and contraband.

What is funny is that I haven't posted over there in years. I don't post shit over there because unlike you I don't waste my time posting on a message board of a band that I do not like..I haven't posted over there since I gave up on Axl.......I was behind him at one point too....And when I gave up on him and wanted to speak my mind I got banned for saying that I that band because I didn't and still don't consider that band Guns N' Roses...
