Title: Will madagascar be n cd? -your two cents...
Post by: norway on December 24, 2004, 10:26:17 PM
Merry christmass 2 you

I was thinkin about this since movies has a copyright-all rights reserved on it's entire soundtrack
and any public use is strictly prohibited blabla

does anyone who have more clue if and how this could be done, do you need licening deal?
Or is it no problem at all to do it? even without licence?

ps, madagascar has sound from copyrighted movies : ok:

I don't believe this is the question Norway was adressing, although I could be wrong.? If I read Norway's question correctly, I believe they were asking if Madagascar could be a song on Chinese Democracy because Madagascar uses about a minute of movie quotes in the middle of the song.? While I'm not a lawyer or able to speak intelligently on copyrights, assuming the companies would give permission ( and I wouldn't see why they wouldn't) there is no reason why the movie quotes would not be included.? After all, Madagascar uses the sound clip from Cool Hand Luke, just as Civil war does, and there was no problem there.? The cd just gave credit and cited where the sound clip came from in the UYI2 cd leaflet.

If thats the question, then the answer is yes, as long as gnr pays a fee to use the quotes. I know the MLK quotes will cost a pretty penny.

I listen to Madagascar more than any other GN'R song.  It's a great song, perfectly written.  If the album has songs just like this all the way through.  It will be one of the greatest ever by far, surpassing a "Led Zepplin II" as Brain put it.

That's correct.  They'll need permission and have to pay for the rights of each quote individually.  The cost will vary per sample depending on what the copyright owner asks.  I can't see this being any sort of issue though.  With the amount of time and money already invested in CD I think it's same to assume that if Axl wants the samples on the record badly enough he'll get them on.

Maddy is definitely a masterpiece.  I think the movie studios should pay GNR to have their quotes in there.  For example, I am pretty sure I never would have rented Cool Hand Luke had it not been used in Civil War.

Didn't Axl say "Madagascar" was one of the songs not being considered as a single?

If that song doesn't make the cut, I can't wait to hear what does.

I agree, Maddy is a masterpiece. I cannot wait to hear the finished product. I intend to get some of the lyrics tattoo'd to my arm just below my gnr tat. The song has been so releasing for me. I can't even put it into words. Would love the chance to explain my graditude to Axl!!!! :peace:

This song is what music is suppose to be about!!!!! Songs like this make life more barable!!!!

It is nothing short of sonic perfection, and it will be a HUGE hit. It would be ridiculously stupid to leave it off. Most people immediately fall in love with it. In the world of GNR, I don't think they'd have any problems with copyrights as far as the quotes and clips and stuff...

Madagascar will definitely be on Chinese Democracy...it's simply too good to be left off.

As long as Silk Worms is either completely re-tooled or just thrown into a garbage can never to be heard again, I'll be happy.  My wife would throw Rhiad to the wolves as well...but I kinda like it.

The Blues and Maddy are masterpieces...Chinese Democracy is above average.

Back on topic:  Of course Maddy will be on Chinese D.  Axl isn't stupid.

I agree, especially with two solos. Better than any song off Contraband.

I agree, better than average. :)  I do believe I said above average.  It's a very good rocker.  Maddy and The Blues are already classics in my book though, thoroughly exceptional.

   2005's the year!!!

To me BH's solo on Chinese Democracy feels completely out of place. The whole song is full of energy... except for those few seconds.

There's always the possiblity the quotes were only a stage show thing....
