Title: Contraband dualdisc out in February?
Post by: jarmo on December 19, 2004, 08:46:52 AM
Got this from www.snakepit.org:

RCA Records has announced that they will remaster the sound of Contraband when the Dual Disc is released on February 8. The Dual Disc will have videos for "Slither" and "Fall To Pieces". There will also be previews from MTV, MTV2 and Fuse as well as photos.

Third release of the same album in about eight months?  :hihi:

Whats the purpose of re-mastering the disc? Its not like as if its been out for years.

Will this version have the B-sides? And why remaster the sound? It's not like it's from the 60s or 70s, it came out last year...I don't get it.

I don't get it either, well I'm sure the label is behind it..

Before anyone starts getting nuts no one who has it is going to buy it again..+--

They obviously keep adding things to keep sales up..
But unless you read the net for news about vr who really klnows about these things..

I don't see who'd buy this dualdisc, but even GN'R released the same single with different B-sides for a lot of times

Maybe it's remastered because of the DVD content?

I still think it's hilarious that they're re-releasing the same thing for the third time in eight months.

They could've added those three covers on this edition instead.
You would've gotten two videos, three b-sides and the whole album remastered.

Record companies are desperate.

This is the classic case of RCA milking the cash cow.

I suppose if the fans are goofy enough to fall for it the record company(s) have every right to continue the practice....

Maybe there'll be a "tour edition" with a few live tracks in spring 2005? ;)

I don't think so. I hope that the second VR album will be out in late 2005, so they'll need some time without anything to make the fans hungry.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen with Chinese Democracy. It feels like the first people who bought Contraband (myself included) lose out on improved versions of the album being released at later dates.

Well, I know alot of people have complained about the albums mix.. It could be a good thing, but I doubt I will be getting it anyway. I haven't bought the one with the b-sides.

I wouldn't be surprised if it did happen with Chinese Democracy. It is more and more common for bands to release multiple versions of an album. I guess it's one way the record companies try to combat file sharing and increase sales.

Yea, the original mix kind of sucks but i like CB. I dont have a problem with it if remastering improves the songs.

I see how dvds are done, they release one of a movie then before you know it you have a director's cut with a bunch of extra features..

The point is if you like to get every little extra thing then this could be for you, but for someone that is just a fan and only wants the album then that's not for you..

They could re release it 15 times, I look at it as they are trying to sell more (the label) but us fans have our album already and know better.

I think RCA anticipated way more album sales then has occurred. Considering the hype and the monsterous push that was given for CB. At this point they might as well put out a spanish version of CB. Fall to Pesos

Yeah, that must be why Ushers album was re-released. ?I guess they just figured it wasnt selling very well and needed a boost. : ok:

What do you think RCA expected? ?VR has either the first or second best-selling rock album of the year. ?It debuted at #1 and has sold 1.5 million since. ?Theyve got the distinction of having the best debut from a new rock artist. ?The singles have topped the rock charts for weeks. ?Id say VR has at least met expectations, and may have possibly exceeded them. ?Thats obviously not going to stop them from capitalizing on VRs success and continuing to push the album since its about midway through its run, but theres no reason to believe VR has failed to meet expectations.

This would be the one and only reason I would get the remastered version.

In the U.S. they've sold just shy of 1.5 million.

Wow trying to rip off their fans even more. First different colored album covers, now the same album with extras, why not do this first?

Talk to RCA....their the whores who put that shit out knowing fans are dumb enough to keep buying that stuff. Anyone who bought all 3 colors in the beginning should not complain one iota about this as it is those people who get the record company to keep releasing the same thing just tweaked a bit.

Yeah, I kind of think they are milking this album a little too much.  But, to be fair, I really don't think Slash and Scott are the ones sitting around thinking of different marketing ploys to sell more albums and make more money.  However, their label knows they are one of the biggest bands on the planet and if they can profit from this, then they are certainly going to try...

How are VR one of the biggest band on the planet when they can just sell out clubs? If they were one of the biggest on the planet they could sell out areana's which they would not be alble to.

I wonder if you mean Re-Mixed?? Cause that would change the sound and give certain parts more clarity..

It doesn't matter to me they are releasing it with some other added shit, no one is forcing anyone to buy it again..You either do ro you don't, it's pretty cut n dry..

Lets just say they are one of the bigger newer bands going, nothing more.. Regardless they are a NEW band and only have an album since june, they've accomplished alot in a short period of time..

I know some might say well they were with famous bands before.. Well it's has some truth, but not every spinoff does good.. Might remember a band called CREED, they have sold 10's of million of albums up to a year or so ago, they have a greatest hits album, they are fresh in everyone's mind.. They have a spinoff without scott called alter bridge and you would think they would be huge because of creed's success but it's not the case..

You can't expect a new band to sell out arenas..
