tribute bands piss me off. cover bands are ok, but there's something wrong about dressing up and trying to act like the original thing that really gets on my tits.

I totally agree with you. I would go to see a cover band, not a tribute band.

I find cover bands are generally more fun. But I've seen some really awesome tribute acts that pull out all the stops. There's a GREAT Aerosmith tribute act from the Boston area called Draw The Line and I've seen them a handful of times. It's not something you can take too seriously, it's just a fun night out with some of your all time favorite music and if you have that kind of attitude going in you'll have a good time with it.

Although I saw a terrible GN'R tribute act and I literally had to walk out on it. Pure desecration!

After reading this article, basically, all this band is... is an act.  Like a live theatrical performance of what they thought GNR should have been.  Kind of like seeing a broadway performance.

That's fine, and I can see where they're coming from... but it's not real, and the quote that really got to me was that they're "better than any original act ever."  That followed by the lead singer of this group saying that he really doesn't think GNR is all that special.

The biggest difference between the real GNR and this act, is that GNR wasn't an act.  It was real and they were always true to who they are.  Saying that your "better than any original act ever" is rather pretentious, it would be like saying Val Kilmer makes a better Jim Morrison than Jim Morrison.  Nobody is a better Axl than Axl.  You might behave in a better fashion than he did... you might even his songs better than he did, or whatever... but, that doesn't make you a better Axl... just another interpretation of what you believe Axl should have been.

Basically... I have no problem with tribute acts, I think they're cool and a lot of fun.  My only problem is that this is not really a "tribute" band, because the lead singer doesn't emulate Axl... he's just ripping him off.

I have seen a GNR tribute band called Bad Obsession. They were great (just don't take it too seriously)

I thought that but I saw 'Bad Obsession' in Leeds and at first I thought the whole dressing up thing was cheesy but if u get over it and start enjoying yourself it's actualy really good!
