Post by: GNFNRS on December 07, 2004, 12:38:41 PM
I just briefly scanned the Grammy nominations and from what I could tell the boys were nominated for 2 Grammys.  I think they were best Rock Album and best rock song.

Great!   :smoking:

But it'd be very strange if Slash & Co. would get a Grammy for their VR work, while they didn't get for GN'R...

I hope they win all three but I think their best chance is Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Hard Rock Album.  It will be hard to beat u2 in any category.

I'm surprised they didn't get a nomination in the "best new artist" category ????

While I generally hate the Grammys, I have to admit Im very pleased to see the band get that recognition...Hopefully they pick at least one up ("Slither" should be a lock, but its the Grammys, so... :-\)

Good luck VR!!!  I think it will be tough to beat U2 and Greenday since the brand of rock VR plays isn't what record execs want to push.

...yeah but the lawyers probably love 'em  :hihi:

God that's the only reason to watch  :o

If you win, Please Scott, no soap box speeches, mmmkay? You're just a rock singer...don't take yourself so seriously...let Mr. Slash say something....

Green day better not win based on that song...the album is amazing but that song is the worst song on there

I'm curious. Where did you get this information about grammy nominees? ???

Is it on the Internet somewhere? I would love to know better

Thankfully, American idiot is a damn fine masterpiece. I don't think VR can win in any of these categories. FTP is hardly their best work, btw.

you're probably right..

I just think vr did the one thing no one else has having a debut album being number one first week, plus they did have two number one single on mainstream, modern rock,, I think one finished second on one of those rock categorys..

The second part, I doubt he cares or he might be happy for them, who knows..

Don't get me wrong....VR's album is very, very good.  But if American Idiot  doesn't win the Best Album category, I'll be shocked.  It's a classic.  U2's Atomic Bomb is also excellent, and, without Greenday's album, I think it might be a tight race between U2 and VR....but with American Idiot.....I think Greenday takes this category in a cake walk.

Fully Concur. American Idiot is a far better album than Contraband. I'll be happy if Green Day won best album ( they will) and VR won best Act performance.

I sure hope so, but let me tell you what my biggest fear is. If VR wins a grammy Axl will go back to the studio for another 5 years to make sure he wins a grammy when CD is released. :nervous:

Ignatius, I doubt that would ever happen, they may not be business partners but I doubt there is such hate, either way whenever the cd is coming out it will regardless of whatever contraband does..

I know Mike, I was just making a joke. If VR won a grammy, being the perfectionist he is, we don't need to give Axl another reason to delay the album even more to guarantee he will get another grammy as well.

Wow, that's great. But I don;t think they will win. They are just not as hip as Green Day or U2. Mainstream is more into U2 and Green Day then VR.... but I think they should win for Slither, it's the best rock song in years...

One thing is for sure, the Grammy's are a bit unpredictable. A band like VR could easily sweep these awards if the momentum is right. I mean, how many times has actually the best album won the 'Best album' awards? VR has as good album/songs as anyone there.? I like Green day, however AI is by no means a masterpiece.

I just want to say congratulations to Velvet Revolver, they deserve it, they have given us a lot of great music over the years with GnR, STP and VR, and Slash in particular have also played on a lot of succesfull albums as a guest star as well, and for them to finally getting some reconigtion by the Grammys is wonderfull, and it should make us all proud, both old and new GnR line up fans, because like it or not, VR would have had a lot more difficult time making it big if it weren't for 4/5 of the members already being known to the music world.? ?:peace:

I agree on everything you say, I also wanted to add if vr was a younger group of guys they might get recognized more for just being a band, instead almost every reviewer/interviewer brings in everything they've ever done and have to compare it to their old music.

I understand the past is part of your present life, it's just the label supergoup turns some people off and they doin't give the music a fair chance.. ALso being aroundf 40 as the average age is harder to sell for a new band in a world filled with young people in music..

They did get the initial kick to help them in the start, but now their music will have to do the talking..

They're all great bands who write and play their own music and have awesome fans.  At least it's all Rock N Roll.  We could be arguing about Ashley Simpson and Avril Lavigne so called rock albums!

Does that mean new or requested..

As for the 3/5's thing we know who the original gnr is, not everyone cars enough ,they just see matt as ex gnr drummer and figure he's an original member.. Poor stever, he's been gone almost 15 years

i'm really happy for the guys, but i don't think they'll win anything. green day is sure to win all the best prizes.
but if you ask me, i think it isn't fair that slash didn't get the grammy for the godfather instrumental.
and it's a shame that gn'r didn't get any grammys either.

but, wish'em luck... :-\

Perhaps but theres also a chance they might not get as much reconition as they are now because of their pasts...
