I also have a rumour that Satriani is helping gnr find a guitarist in some capacity

There is also a vh1 forum rumour to be posted in a sec

Something is possibly happening

Just like Tommy said I don't think there'd be any auditions without me being there. Because I think, we need to put the band together to hear them play. So I would imagine that's probably gonna happen when I get home at some point.

But didn't that Bumblefoot guy mention in an interview that Satriani had been in touch with him to say that GN'R would be in touch with him,Bumblefoot, soon.

It wouldn't suprise me at all if they were looking for a thrid player, axl couldn't muster it up for rio with two players with a few months left and that was one gig, how is he going to do those magical three albums and massive tour with only two guitarists?

One minute I read that the guys are sworn to secrecy, then the next they're giving out info regarding the lineup, or what they need or don't need..

So if they are getting a new guitar player.  How long will that take for the guy to learn all the parts needed for a tour, and will he add his stuff on the new album?  This could mean that CD is farther away then we thought.  Like a year away!  >:(

whatever it sounds like something is a brewing here.some little hints aren't that bad i guess.it keeps you going for awhile,till something big.little hints are some good too ,you know.better then nothing.

Who is Satriani?

His name is Joe Satriani. he is a hell of a player. his best known song (i think) is called "Summer Song" There is no lyrics in his music but it really does not need them. Hell Joe would be a great player to be in GNR. he could do the extreme parts. thats my opinion though. what does everyone else think?

I find listening to Satriani very boring  :-\ Nothing against his playing, I just feel like I nearly always need vocals to keep me entertained.

Yep, Something should be happening. They will let us know on this subject. The press release of Oct. 12, 2004 said

Satch turned GNR down according to Ron Thal , then he suggested Thal as a replacement.

I think thats , what , 5 or 6 guitar players who have turned down an offer from GNR now?

it wouldnt take a good playyer that long to learn the set.  Al Pitrelli lerned the Megadeth set in less than a mointh.  A good player will not set them back a year as suggested in an earlier post.

If they want a great guitarist, then like I said in the other "guitarist post" I say have Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme, he FUCKING rules!

I say the best on the market right now goes by the name of Brian Carroll.  Bring him in, I"m sure he'd do great.

BH is a solo artist, he probably loves to play, he seems to tour alot, maybe gnr just wasn't for him.. If you have alot of downtime and don't feel like being active then new gnr is for you..

Maybe he did the entire Guns N' Roses thing in character for everything, and Brian Carroll is really a completely different character! ;D It made me laugh that he did the rehersals for the VMA in his bucket and mask.

Actually Al Pitrelli had done the same thing for Savatage.
I agree with that, a guitarist destined to be a member of Guns N' Roses will be a professional and that's what the rehearsals are also for, to test the compability of the expectant.
There's no reason for a delay for the guitarist to learn the songs, but I think Axl wants a more complicate relationship with the members of the band. I remember something like (from the VMA 2002 after the show), that one reason for the delay is how to rebuild something from the beggining and that he wants to know if the band wants to play the material,? (or something like that). That's a worry for me though? :(.

I agree. I think our best hope for an early '05 release possibly just went out the window. I don't think Axl is going to half-ass the co-lead guitarist position with some guy to just stand in and play BH's parts. I think he's looking for a guy that the whole band is cool with (which will probably be a much longer process now given the apparent troubles with BH)- and then once they pick the player- I think they will have him write and record so that he is a true blue member of the band.

I think this would be the right approach to issue, but why it couldn't have all been done between December 2002 and now is f'n beyond me. :rant:

Do you mean that Axl will meet the bandmembers sometimes? Or tells Stinson about who his new bandmate is? Or there would be rehearsals in the GN'R camp? Oh man, that'd be too good to be true!

I could only accept a female guitarist if she looks like Notorious B.I.G., has a bucket on his head, wears a Mickey Mouse mask and likes touring with her solo stuff. Otherwise she wouldn't fit the Nu-GN'R.

I agree, buckethead is irreplaceable, in my mind. Not because there are as skilled players out there, but the character and image he brought to the new band just cannot be matched by ron thal or whoever.

I couldn't agree more. Buckethead was undoubtedly a good guitarist (live) albeit not much of a showman (in my opinion), but we don't have any studio recordings to go by. Ironically that is where he is probably most likely to excel, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I'm more concerned about the album coming out.

I just hope Axl won't record tha buckethead parts again with the new guitarist. This means even further delays.

The album is done, that can be released early 2005. They still have their lead guitarist Robin, so someone like Gilby could fill in for the live gigs.

i bet they started looking for a replacement earlier, but didn't find anyone till then.

Personally- I'm for either bringing Buckethead back at all costs (who cares if he's a dick- the members of GN'R have never necessarily been "good guys", plus the man's got the chops and the charisma to be in GN'R), OR, failing that- promote Fortus up to co-lead guitarist with Finck and bring back Paul Huge to handle rhythm guitar if they absolutely need three guitarists live. Enough with the outsiders- let the guys who are emotionally attached to this project be the ones to tour behind it.

And, sorry to say ladies, but hell will freeze over before there is a female lead guitarist in GN'R. Unless she's a Victoria's Secret model who can play circles around Eddie Van Halen...:peace:

When Axl issued the statement regarding Bucketheads departure, the tone I got from it was that he would have him back in the band. I certainly hope this is the case, IMO Buckethead would play a big part as to whether or not ChinDem is a success

What about Paul Gilbert?
He can shred, he can do the classical thing, he can solo . . .  and he's a goofy, "fun" type of player. A guy that doesn't take himself too seriously in terms of the media and being a press-whore.
Maybe he could inject some fun back into Axl!

You've lost me now. I'm a GNR fan , have been since I bought AFD on vinyl back in 1987. I just honestly believe Thal was contacted by people within the GNR camp , be it managers or studio engineers , to come and feel things out and what have you.

Regardless of if I believe or dont believe Ron Thal makes me no less a GNR fan. I certainly dont think the guy tried to "fool" us to gain any fame or new fans .. Thal has proven over the years to be genuine and very open with his fans and I will give him the benefit of the doubt unless he says otherwise.

As for Thal, I talked to him for a few week strecth. He showed me the emails from PIttman. Hes not lying and hes not trying to gain publicity. Trust me when I tell you he was contacted by gnr and that he was sincere about the whole situation. Thal is a great guy!

Pittman told Bumble that he has heard his work and liked it. ANd told him GNR might be interested. He asked Bumble some personal questions and they communicated by email for awhile.

Dimebag would've been an excellent choice.  May he rest in peace.  But another good choice and I know this will never happened but a good guitarist for GnR would be Tom Morello from Rage against the machine.  That would be awesome!!!!
