Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: MCT on November 30, 2004, 05:08:56 PM This thread has possibilities...............
Check out "If My Mind Is Evil" by White Lion...... Now I happen to like the song regardless, but some may find it a little too typical of the time period - i.e. 80's hair metal. Either way it has some really neat guitar within...... Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Skeletor on November 30, 2004, 05:26:19 PM 'In the Name of God' by Dream Theater isn't that special, but the guitar solo from 8:36 on is incredible :)
Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Izzy on November 30, 2004, 06:33:37 PM I wanna rock - by Twisted Sister, the song is okay in my view - but that solo is one of the greatest moments in rock history - scorching!
Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: jimmythegent on November 30, 2004, 09:08:48 PM Back off Bitch - GN'R. I always thought the song is OK but not standout, however that solo is killer. Very different for Slash - veers from the usual blues/pentatonic into more diatonic modal scales
Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Mattman on November 30, 2004, 11:39:32 PM Megadeth's "Youthanasia" is a lumbering, average song, but that Marty Friedman solo is killer. : ok:

Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Walk on December 02, 2004, 09:52:59 AM Stairway to Heaven and Free Bird would be useless 70's cheese without the solo. Same with Deep Purple's Child in Time: the solo makes the song. I think songs were better constructed in the 80's, when riffs got much better. So many 70's songs are built on a single great solo, but riffs really improved with the 80's.
Yes, Reign in Blood is an excellent example of this! I LOVE that riff! ;D The first 15 seconds of that song could be repeated 10x and it would still rock! Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: DEAD HORSE on December 02, 2004, 11:33:08 AM "Carpe Diem Baby" from Re-load from Metallica , not a good song nor a bad song , terrific riff tho.
Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: MCT on December 03, 2004, 12:31:04 PM Another 80's tune to ponder - Voodoo by Yngwie Malmsteen.........
Not his best, but containing one of my fav solo's out of everything that I've ever heard............... Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Gunner80 on December 03, 2004, 07:49:48 PM Skid Row - In a darked room - Average song with great solo's.
Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: MCT on December 04, 2004, 10:41:08 PM I wanna rock - by Twisted Sister, the song is okay in my view - but that solo is one of the greatest moments in rock history - scorching! ... :o... You're gone by, gone........... Next thing, you'll be tellin' us Matthew Sweet rocks.......... Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: N.I.B on December 04, 2004, 10:50:15 PM I belive in a thing called love - The Darness

You're gone by, gone........... Next thing, you'll be tellin' us Matthew Sweet rocks.......... Bah - it DOES have a good solo, regardless of what we think of the song Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: MCT on December 06, 2004, 10:51:34 AM Bah - it DOES have a good solo, regardless of what we think of the song When I read your original post the other day, I actually went and dug out 'Big Hits and Nasty Cuts', threw it in the stereo, blasted 'I Wanna Rock', and was quickly reminded that I kinda like the song. Sadly, the solo is mediocrity at its finest......... :'( Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Izzy on December 06, 2004, 11:03:47 AM Bah - it DOES have a good solo, regardless of what we think of the song When I read your original post the other day, I actually went and dug out 'Big Hits and Nasty Cuts', threw it in the stereo, blasted 'I Wanna Rock', and was quickly reminded that I kinda like the song. Sadly, the solo is mediocrity at its finest......... :'( How can u say that?? It's just a superb solo - it explodes from the track, fantastic! Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: MCT on December 06, 2004, 11:09:40 AM Not to add insult to injury here Iz, but if someone, anyone, were to tell me that the 'I Wanna Rock' solo is - "superb" - I would simply have to assume that they've never heard a good guitarist play.
EDIT - It doesn't move! It's flat, it's slow, it's sloppy...it's unimaginative! Title: Re: Avarage songs BUT with Great guitar solo(s) Post by: Skeletor on December 07, 2004, 06:56:52 AM ^What he said. That solo is just sad, really. Izzy you've got to get your hands on some music. Like, now.
