You obviously haven't watched many sit-coms  :P I think Friends sucks, for the most part, but it's not the worst I've ever seen. I....shit, it is actually.

"Friends" too. I never really got into it. My 2 favourite ones are Twin Peaks and Seinfield.I used to love "Beverly Hills" 10 years ago when I was 12 or 13  :P

The most horrible sitcom I've ever seen is some Spanish one, I don't remember its name, but it was about a family where the father is a doctor. They were an incredibly lame bunch of people. There was also an annoying grandpa there who cracked jokes, and eh.. man, I haven't got the words to describe it.  :confused:

Meh, you first two (or three, was it?) posters are just trying to be cool.

It was reasonably well written for the most part, even if it's continuation of relying on cheap gags attempted to destroy it.

I'm really bad with giving sitcoms a chance, I have to watch at least three episodes to really get into it, and I rarely do that. So if I named the 'worst' that sprung to mind, I wouldn't necesarily dislike it...

...Which is what the posters I directed my opening statement could use as a counter argument, be that the case.

The Nanny........ ugh... I can't stand that chick's voice.  I thought the bit on it from Family Guy was classic.

There could be worse ones out there but Friends gets the top (or should I say bottom) spot because it was so damned overrated.? :P :P :P

one of my least favorites was voted number 1 by TV guide that is seinfeld, it doesnt suck but ive never been able to get into it.

Seinfeld is the funniest sitcom I've ever seen.  I also liked Friends, but I admit it had some off years.

Its hard for me to think of the worst sitcom I've ever seen, because if I didn't like it, I just never watched it again and forgot all about it.  But the first thing that comes to mind is Third Rock From the Sun.  The over-acting in that show used to drive me nuts.  Especially when people talked about how great it was. 

Frasier was good in the beginning but went way way down hill by the end. 

How about "Boy Meets World"?  I used to watch that when I was a little kid, but recent reviewings have astonished me with the lame writing and characters.  Nothing too funny about it.  The same goes for "Sabrina the Teenage Witch".  That show is way too cutesy for me.

Random comment: Did anyone ever watch "TGIF" on Fridays on ABC?  It was like 4 sitcoms in a row, and it wasn't too bad.  But because the station was owned by Disney, they started doing things like having each sitcom have an episode set in Disney World in the same night.  I like a TV show interrupted by commercials, not a TV show that IS a commercial.

i guess Seinfeld may have its moments but i just never got into it.

I'd vote for 75% of all the sitcoms I've seen as bing trash.  Friends would be my no.1 choice due to the fact it's so overrated.  I can't think of any American sitcoms I've actually laughed at to be honest.  Why can America do great comedy films, yet can't make its sitcoms even remotely witty or entertaining?  They're all the same pretty much, a few 18-30 year olds living in some apartment or whatever talking crap.

Britain is the place for good comedy.  The Office, The League of Gentlemen and Monkey Dust are my recent faves, although look back and you get Only Fools and Horses, Bottom, The Young Ones, Blackadder (the best), Harry Enfield was good for a while... a few more that I can't think of but all wipe the floor with stuff like Friends and Frasier.  But before anyone says it, yes Britain has produced its fair share of bollocks over the years as well!!!

i agree on friends, it is the most overrated show in the history of tv. its boring, weak predictable PC humor. how it became so popular has to be one of the worlds great mystaries. everyone loves raymond is awful as well, so is 8 simple rules, 2 guys a girl and a pizza place, full house, threes company, i guess i could go on for a while, most sitcoms are awful

I'm surprised Everybody Loves Raymond and Will & Grace are so successful in the US. I think it's very odd, considering they are definitely below mediocre. Then again, since shows like Seinfeld, Friends and Frasier aren't running anymore, it's understandable some shows have to be at the top, whatever their quality.

BBC now produce the worst sitcoms like My Family and All About Me (which has taken a sledgehammer to Jasper Carrot's talent and dignity).

How can you make a statement like that? You have no idea of my personal tastes, or, to that matter, the other people who feel the same way. Friends is bloody awful at times, it makes me cringe. Sometimes it's good and I don't deny that I've watched probably 50% of the episodes made, but on the whole it's appauling, and I resent the accusation that I'm "trying to be cool". You can't make judgements like that, simply because you can't believe that somebody might have totally different tastes to you! There have been times when I've quite enjoyed Friends, and in the past have found other sit-coms much worse, but it became so dumb and pathetic, and in its heyday it was only average. It's got no guts, it tries to teach morals, the actors come across quite insincere, and frequently display unbelievable lack of talent and originality - mainly towards the end of it's lifespan. Disagree with me/us, fine, but you're deluded if you think I would ever claim to hate Friends just to be "cool".

edited to add: Spaced is quite possibly my favourite sit-com ever  : ok: Of course, I'm only saying that because it's a fairly obscure and unconventional sit-com, and I want people to think I'm cool.

i agree that alot of the sitcoms are crap because they use the same formula , friends indeed is overrated. but there are good shows like scrubs,king of queens , arrested development.

Can people please, please stop uttering Frasier's name in this thread?  Even if you don't agree with me that it is the perfect sitcom, it certainly isn't close to being one of the worst.

You don't think Frasier got really bad by the end?  They just kept recycling the same story lines.  How many times could Frasier meet a great woman and screw it up?  How many times was he harrassed by some other radio personality?  It got really old.

Yeah, I guess that story did get a bit old, but I didn't get bored once.  I really liked the last season - if not the funniest, I thought it was the funnest.  You've gotta love the one where they got stoned, surely! ;D

the girl called "justine" in "hel?ne et les gar?ons" was at the school at 2 minutes of my home. I think I saw her once or twice while she was going to school.

I would never have guessed that show was played in countries other than Spain. The show was called "Medico de Familia"? - Family Doctor - It was not a sitcom though, or at least didn't fall into a sitcom short of show. Sitcoms last 30 minutes with comercials, " Medico de Famila" was about 90 minutes long.

Was it dubbed into finish or did it have subtitles? That show was indeed pretty bad.

Another spanish show " Aqui no hay quien viva" playing now is even worse.

"Full House"? was pretty horrendous too. I hate John Stamos with a passion.

It had subtitles, as every foreign TV shows we have here, none of them are dubbed.

I really love that show every episode i have seen i think is class i think it's the best current sitcom around.  Anyway as for worst i believe Friends is only mentioned since it's so popular i don't like it but there is far worse but at the same time it get's too much credit considering how medicore it is.  Worst Ink w/ Ted Danson, i love the guy in Cheers & Becker but this was awful no wonder it was cut so soon.

I believe since Seinfeld stopped running Frasier was the best classiest sitcom on T.V.

Niles has got to be one of the funniest characters of the past decade.

This would probably explain why D has the all the episodes on VHS. He says he likes to watch them and drink kiwi-koolaid.

4- Cracking up (the idea is cool though, but the execution sucks)


The good ones (in my opinion of course) are:

1- SEINFELD (just damn good)

2- Whoopi (being a Middle Eastern, makes me understand how messy it gets at airports :hihi:)

3- The Simpsons/Futurama

4- Arrested development (sometimes I hate it though, but I guess i'm in the mood for love right now :yes:)

5- B & Butthead (does it fall in a sitcom categotry?)

Oh OK, I got the impression it was a sitcom because the scenes were so short and the storyline made no sense.. I mean, it was pathetic to the point where it was kind of funny. I only saw about two episodes many years ago, so even though I was severely traumatized by watching it, I don't remember much anymore.

90 minutes is a pretty long time for a TV-show by the way, they might've aired it in shorter segments here.

In europe most tv format fiction programs are 90 minutes long ... but we're trying hard to make sitcoms format programs ... and it's so ... bad, uninteresting and not funny ...  ;D

My Family was excellent when you ignore pretty much everything except Nick. So, in short, Nick is excellent. He really is one of my all-time favourite characters in sit-coms. I've been told by a couple of friends that he reminds them of me  ;D I used to love watching My Family, but as soon as the actor who plays Nick started getting more acting roles, and was therefore not in it much, I realised how weak the programme was in general.

Very true Nick was great and i enjoyed it until he appeared in it less and less and as for Zoe Wannamaker's face the word ugly fuckin' witch comes to mind

i think thats the reason why the show was so good , because sainfeld new he was not the funnier on the group and he exploted that , he gave the other characters the funnniest things in the show , he didnt try to make him look better than the others.

My vote goes to both 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' and 'Two pints of lager and a packet of crisps' - two depressingly crude,witless and generally low brow effort from the Bebb in recent years. I say depressing becasue this was the best the UK could come up with whilst at the same time our American cousins were churning out absolute gems like 'Curb your Enthusiasm' and 'Frasier'. (I know, I know. 90% of US comedy is probably crap too - it's just the cream that gets exported).

One sitcom that I hated, but it seemed everyone I knew liked, was the Cosby Show.  I don't know why people loved that show so much. 

pick any shit from tv...like "married with children"...perhaps the first episoeds were somehow acceptable...damn, do they always have to lengthen every damn show that prooves to have some succes (even if it's liked by "the masses"-translated as dumb-people-who-don't-have-anythin-better-to-do-with-their-time-than-watch-cheap-tv)...that gets so old...not to mention that some get really vulgar...and you don't even get to laugh at'em as being "pathetic" it just becomes plain sad or annoying...

Hands down the worst sitcom Ive ever seen is easily Bob Patterson with Jason Alexander. This show lasted like 2 weeks and I can understand since the Pilot alone was one of the worst half hours Ive ever sat through. Jason's new show, "Listen Up" surprisingly is very well done, and funny week after week. Besides Listen Up, I think all the Seinfeld star's solo shows were all around horrible as well.

There is an Australian sitcom that was called 'Hey Dad'...I think it's our longest running sitcom ever.

This show had perhaps 3 crap jokes that were the basis of every episode, it was an abomination.
