French rock-critic says in a book to be published within few weeks that Axl died 8 years ago (1996) as a consequence of a car crash ! Geffen Records (Universal) decided to keep the secret and hired a man who looked like Axl (some surgery was needed). His voice, as a matter of fact, doesn't sound as the original Axl.
Slash refused to stay in the band. Duff and Matt left it later...

I don't think it's true, but IF it was, it would be the greatest Rock 'N' Roll swindle in the history !!!
Not just a newgnr, but a new Axl Rose in front of us !

This has to officially be the funniest rumor I've ever heard about Guns N' Roses.  I'll be laughing about this all day long.  If there is a book, the best thing is that some people will actually believe it.  Which doesn't say much for those people.  Everything's a conspiracy!

Yeah, I've heard this story, too. Quite interesting what's goin' on in the music business and everybody's silent. As far as I know the same person replaced Axl after 1996 who had been Paul McCartney's impersonator in Beatles, after Paul had died.

We still don't know the source of that info. Where did you find it? What's the book title, who's the author, etc., etc. I googled for it and couldn't find a bit of info. My AP wire had nothing about it either.

Funny what comes from france about axl really..12/13 years ago, some journalist had written that axl was in fact french, that his name was xxxxxxxxxx and that he had been married to Courtney Love as a youngster. The marriage would have been so bad that he would have turned gay as a result...

Its just a rip off of the Paul McCartney conspiracy. Infact the rumour is exactly the same in every detail, car crash surgery etc.

The problem with the Paul McCartney one, was that if they were gonna have to find a look a like, well first it has to look like him, be a musician, play bass, be left handed, and be one of the greatest song writers of all time. Tough call. ;)

My initial question was about the actual STORY about the alleged book/author/journalist, not the substance of it since we all know it's not true. If there is a story on that, I'm really curious to know who started it. But like we all supposed since the thread has started, the article itself surely doesn't exist and this is gonna be a buh-bye for our rumor-starting friend.

Here is some more information : the author of the essay may be Gilles Tordjman. His book is based on situationist Guy Debord's "The Society of Spectacle" which is a 1967' critical essay about modern civilization. The "Axl's case" would only be a small part of Tordjman's book, if I understood well. The main themes of the book are "doubles, manipulation and myths in contemporary society of spectacle."



Another example is Madonna and Michael Jackson using doubles in several shows (although they're not dead). :peace:

Personally, I thought Axl had died sometime in the middle of 1990, after his performance at Farm Aid and before he performance at the RIP party with Metallica and Skid Row. If you look at the way Axl peforms before and after those performances, he' s a totally reinvented man.

I don;t care if he died, I just he's like Paul MccCartney and continues to make great music despite the rumors.

My last post because it's begining to be a little tiresome ... all you said is that a book is going to be published ... that it's written by Tordjman (he used to write for the magazine "les inrockuptible" when i used to read it) and is inspired by "La soci?t? du spectacle" written by debord (a book I read). So my question is, as I roamed the internet to look for something about this book that is to be published and found nothing, when and where have you heard about the book ? what are your sources ? If I missed the answer please point it out to me.  :P

It's really simple, there's NO Tordjman book coming out. It's not announced on Amazon or anywhere else for that matter. Please someone lock this joke of a thread.
