Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I was interested to know:

I have made a short film, there is a scene where a radio is playing, it's playing witha volume level set quite low, and the sound of the radio can be changed with ease.

Imagine if i were to play a song like Bring It BAck Home, would there be issues with this? it's never been official released.

I doubt there should be any kind of trouble, as long as you release it as a bootleg video and not try and make a lot of money off it.

That's funny that you mentioned this, I study film at Columbia in Chicago and I just got out of a sound class and we were talking about this.  If you were filming something and a song came on the radio and it was out of your control you are o.k.  But if you put it in there intentionally you will get in trouble.  So if you are going to edit that song in and make it seem like it's coming out of the radio you will get sued.  That is of course if you are selling the film.  If you don't get distribution for your film it doesn't matter.  Also, it doesn't matter if it is copyrighted or not, the artist has creative ownership and you must have permission from him to use his creation.

At the moment the sound sounds as if is coming from a radio, i recorded some french radio of a DJ talking and it is played backwards near the begining of the short. I then fade in some music, also played backwards. The sound is pretty low in volume and is all part of a dream sequence. I just popped the question with regards to Copyright issues, as the CD own complte with Bring It Back Home mentions nothing about being copyrighted. And the tune Bring It Back Home is quite catchy. My shory will never be sold, although there have been offers of a screening, so who knows  :peace:
