Title: A Question for the Ladies...
Post by: Axl4Prez2004 on October 08, 2004, 07:45:56 PM
Hello "Lady Gunners" (that sounds like a great name for a female bowling team),

I've always wondered (due to the fact I don't personally know any female GNR fans) if you can identify with the song Estranged.  I think every guy I know who knows GNR can identify with this song.  To me it's the epitome of great love lost.  Does it hit women as hard???  Just wondering.

Yeah, I don't see how you couldn't identify with Axl in that song...the lyrics aren't really gender-specific.  But you do give rise to an issue I sometimes wonder about.  I listen to GN'R because I can identify with the lyrics, for better or for worse, in every songs from "Sweet Child O' Mine" to "Back Off Bitch".  But I don't see a woman could identify with something like that great line in "It's So Easy" when he goes, "turn around bitch I got a use for you".  For a guy, it's a common reaction after something like a bad breakup.  What's a woman think when she hears that song?

What do I think when I hear that song? This is a man trying desperately to hang onto himself. And that I never will do that to a man!!

What I personally think when I hear this song (one of my favorites, btw) is a lot like what you think about... a common reaction after something like a bad breakup.  For a guy, his reaction would be "turn around bitch, I got a use for you" for a girl (or at least for me) my reaction to a bad breakup would be, where's my bobbitt hatchet?

We probably all have those kind of vengeful angry thoughts go through our heads... we just think of different ways to say we're angry.

As for Estranged, this is probably one of the most heartfelt songs I have ever heard.  Reading the lyrics, the poetry within the lyrics is just amazing.  I think the pain is very real, and something that probably all of us have experienced at one point or another in some capacity.

Okay ever sense this thead, I have been listening to the song!! It is one of the best Rock songs ever!!! Has everything a great song should have!! I hate that they waited so long to release it as a single. It could have and should have been huge. I liked the Seattle movement, but they ruined it for real rock, forever!!!
