Title: If Guns N' Roses' name was scrapped what would a suitable replacement?
Post by: Outtagetme04 on October 01, 2004, 02:37:12 PM
I know it's an old chessnut all this should he retire the name however unlikely it is, but if it happened what should they call themselves?
What would appeal to a new audience? But maintain the loyal fan base already existing.
Despite being a die-hard Gunners fan I help but think the name Guns N' Roses now sounds a little dated, it was a phenominem that belongs in the past.
I believe retaining the name is what is holding the band back, surely Axl and the replacements would benefit from a fresh start away from all those comparisons to the old line-up.
I have no suggestions for a name myself but would be interested in others opinions.

Axl Rose.  His name is just as popular as GNR.  And I still wish to this day that he would have continued that way.

Axl & the Replacements.

nevermind - that's not a name for a fresh start either.

how about Dubya?

or just stick with the GN'R name cuz he believes in it.

That would be a good name for a tribute band.

Axl Rose would have been good.  I agree with the notion that he should have retired the GNR name when everyone left.  I think this is more of a solo project than anything.  The name Axl Rose would have held its own in the promotion department.

I've always loved "Guns For Hire" a reference from a Bruce Springsteen song "Dancing in the Dark" dealing with working a shitty 3rd shift job, like i do, It fits Axl and his boys. I think he could also just change his name to ROSE. He's an icon like Madonna or Prince, why not just have a one word name

I don't think the band signed on to be a 'backup' band. The name 'Axl Rose' or 'The Axl Rose Band' creates the idea that this was a solo project and Tommy has stated numerous times that all individuals were involved in the songwriting process. I would not object (like anyone gives a flying crap what I think) if the band used the name 'G&R'. The ampersand could replace the 'N' and we could all still call it the same thing, the only difference being in the spelling.

But I would still rather not worry about all of that.

So if I sign the pay check for someone's band they should name it after me? The "estranged.1098 band".

Please read again. "all individuals were involved in the songwriting process". This makes it a band, whether you like it and its name or not.

Personally I?m thankful for their having carried the name. But now I don?t care whatever name they choose except Axl Rose/Axl and "~s".? I always prefer band acts. Moreover, seeing, how much Axl?s aimed to make a band democratic in substance, who cares about how they get paid. Besides who knows facts and figures.
At the end of the day we will get their music made in democracy, which is our greatest care.

Suitable replacement?Hmm, guts n roes, Blue Roses, The Rise of Dragons, Everyday Elephants, Wizards of Rose, Serpent Pimento?s Only Art Merry-go-round,
:puke:? Dammitall, Tyltyl, Mytyl.

Guns n Roses!

I think I'm gonna have to use that now, sorry dude.

As far as having words like: Roses, guns, axl roses, pistols, tulips, etc. That would lame. That would put Axl right beside Steven Adler in terms of ability to pick an orginal name.

its not a band so therefore it should be called the axl rose solo project or cover band if they continue to play gnr songs.  they dont come close to gnr and never will.  its sad that axl has destroyed the name as much as he has.
