Title: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Wheres Izzy on September 29, 2004, 12:27:21 PM Theres alot of possibilities and choices for various reasons. Maybe Cobain's presence would have thwarted the late 90's pop invasion. Maybe you wish Bonham never died and Zeppelin stayed together. Plus your cliff burtons, john lennons, joey ramones.
I think my choice would be Bon Scott. I am a big ACDC fan and I love Brian Johnson but Bon's voice just had such a cool attitude to it and I have a strong proclivity towards the music they made with him. Post by: Wheres Izzy on September 29, 2004, 12:45:15 PM freddie mercury. there's no reason why the world shouldn't have freddie mercury. He probably would be my number 2. Very under rated in a way by alot of the people I know who like hard rock music. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Dizzy on September 29, 2004, 01:13:16 PM My choice would be Randy Castillo.? He's one of the greatest drummers ever to sit behind a kit.? I wish like hell he was still peppering Ozzy's songs with his amazing drumming.
Also, Randy Rhoads. He was going to quit Ozzy's band anyway, so Ozzy's career would feasibly not have been much different, but Randy would've given us much more through his classical rock guitar releases, which he planned to study in college. I would say Bon Scott also, but with Bon alive, we wouldn't have Brian Johnson fronting AC/DC.? Brian simply rocks.? ?8) Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Mattman on September 29, 2004, 06:12:35 PM I would choose the real axl rose. axl rose died when the real guns n roses died.? :'( I feel the same way... But if I could resurrect one PHYSICALLY dead rock star, it would be Randy Rhoads. The guy had so much untapped talent and I'm sure we would have lots of great songs that he never got the chance to put out. This quote isn't related to Randy Rhoads, but to the topic of dead rock stars in general. Neil Young once said, "Somewhere in the universe there's a museum full of all the great music that we'll never get to hear, because of heroin." That was about Crazy Horse guitarist Danny Whitten, but it's a good metaphor for all rock deaths. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: AxlsMainMan on September 29, 2004, 11:29:58 PM Wow, thats a pretty interesting question. Id have to say John Lennon or Jim Morrison. Both for obvious reasons that they are without a doubt two of the most amazing vocalists and songwriters of our time. Also, both died so tragically and pretty young with so much more talent and energy that the world will truly miss even years from now..
Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: axl_rose_700 on September 30, 2004, 11:56:15 AM one of: John Bonham, Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon, John Entwistle or Freddie Mercury
Not Kurt Cobain though! Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: GNR_Green on September 30, 2004, 01:09:32 PM Not Kurt Cobain though! That would be a waste of a choice! I can't choose one above anyone else. Cliff Burton was needed to save Metallica's slide into shitdom. Jimi could've made more historic music. John Bonham for obvious reasons. Sorry, can't choose one! Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? my choice is either: Sid Vicious, Shannon Hoon(how did this guy die?) or Joe Strummer Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Mr. Dick Purple on September 30, 2004, 04:51:52 PM Not Doubt About It Mr. Freddie Mercury, No one Like him, but he wouldn't be saving rock That's all I know, He's most into pop than into rock he used to like explore new grounds on music and I bet that if he were alive he would be making tracks with bitchy Spears or those crapy boybands. :nervous:

But I guess the morning of a show, the band found him lifeless in his tour bus I believe. That's correct, they found him in the tour bus just hours before a show on October 21, 1995. It was a cocaine overdose. Just three months after his daughter Nico Blue was born :'( I can't believe that he's gone. He died so young, and had so much more to offer. If there is someone here who hasn't listened to Blind Melon yet...well, you really should. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: kj_jive on September 30, 2004, 05:26:17 PM Hmm...I'm gonna go with Keith Moon. Layne Staley is a dangerously close second though.
Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Acquiesce on September 30, 2004, 05:29:06 PM What a hard decision. There are so many musicians that I love and respect that have passed on. Keith Moon, John Entwistle, John Lennon, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads, John Bonham, Bon Scott are some of my favorites.
I guess if I had to choose it would be between Keith Moon and John Entwistle because The Who are a big favorite of mine. Randy Rhoads would be another choice because he died so young and could have contributed so much more to the music world. Most of the artists I mentioned made major contributions even though their life was cut short. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Cornell on September 30, 2004, 06:57:58 PM This is too hard to do. I would struggle between John Lennon, Freddie Mercury, Bon Scott and Shannon Hoon. So, I narrowed it down to 4. ;D
Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: LionGoddess on September 30, 2004, 10:02:09 PM Dizzy good choices with Randy and Rhoads. Randy is one of my fav drummers ever. I would have to say Layne Staley and Cliff Burton. Alice In Chains is one of my favorite bands and I would have loved for Layne to have pulled himself together. Cliff because he seemed so cool and since I am so young (22) I would have loved to see Metallica with him. Also I like to think that Metallica wouldn't suck so much if Cliff were still around. Whether thats true or not who knows.

Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Walk on October 01, 2004, 09:00:01 PM Chuck Schuldiner of Death was taken from us so soon. :( I loved his Control Denied side project, and Death was really changing their sound before he died. Death wasn't pointless br00tal Cannibal Corpse style metal. It was so much better than everything else.
When he died, he left his family deep in debt from medical bills. Hendrix and Cobain left millions of dollars. Chuck was just underrated because mainstream listeners don't like harsh vocals. And, to be completely honest, Zeppelin fell apart at the perfect time. Their later albums just weren't as good as the early stuff. If Jon Bonham didn't die, they would have fallen even deeper into mediocrity. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Gunner80 on October 01, 2004, 11:45:10 PM Freddie Mercury for sure.
Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: Captain Obvious on October 02, 2004, 01:31:25 AM Agree with above poster for Layne Staley. hat band was so good, and yet, so underrated and overshadowed. Even after his death, I haven't seen much extensive coverage. Rarely do I ever hear his name mentioned on the anniversary of his death...what a shame. I'm not sure if it would be possible for Layne Staley to overcome heroin. Apparently, there is a book by some woman who claims to be the last person to interview Layne Staley (over the phone) while he lived in his apartment, and judging by those interviews, It would take no less than a miracle.
If Im not mistaken, Shannon Hoon died of a cocaine or heroin overdose while the band was on tour sometime in 94, or 95 Im not completely sure about the year. Yeah, I believe on pop-up video, they say that the band has actually hired a bodyguard to make sure Hoon doesn't OD and that very shortly after, he died. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: 2NaFish on October 02, 2004, 08:10:25 PM Stevie Ray Vaughan. He'd just cleaned himself up properly and was really looking to expand his playing. Alot of the people mentioned already were given the chance to prove themselves and most had probably already peaked artistically by their death; SRV was in the ascendency creatively leading up to his death and i really wish he'd had the chance to go on cos i think he would've gone on the be a real legend.
Other than that i'd wish Bonzo had never died, for obvious reasons. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Post by: darkdays_01 on October 02, 2004, 08:25:12 PM There are so many but off the the top of my head theses guys really stand out:
Steve Clark , Kurt Cobain , and Bon Scott, I know many people like Brian Johnson but minus Back In Black, AC/DC really only have a handful of decent stuff after that, alot of filler going on there. Title: Re: If you could choose one dead rock star to still be alive who would it be? Jeff Buckley was the greatest loss to music in the last 25 years. Although he isn't technically a "rock star", another one I'd like to still be alive is West Arkeen. I wouldn't wish Kurt Cobain to come back, although I was heartbroken when he died, because he was an amazing artist. But I think he has finally found peace.
