other songs i like are my hero, wind up, hey johnny park, everlong, and all my life.

I think Good Grief is their best song.

I used to be a big fan of the Foos but lost interest after the last album, My fav tracks by them though were:

I love Walking after you, Auaura, Breakout, Next Year, All My Life, Times Like These, I love every song they done really Monkey Wrench is great to and one by one is a kickass album I cant wait to hear there double album they are about to work on I thought Dave Grohl was the nicest man in rock.

I love the acoustic version of everlong I think it's the best thing they ever did. And I really like "the one"

I really dig this band, i like pretty much like there entire catalog, one of there most under-rated songs is February Stars , great fucking song.

I didn't say it didn't make sense; I just said it ticked me off.

It's not a big deal, anyway, but "Times Like These".

The Foo Fighters' best song is easily "Everlong", but I've always had a soft spot for "Next Year", which was the first song by them that I ever heard, and illustrated my feelings at the time EXACTLY.  Dave Grohl has a talent for crafting really catchy grunge-pop songs, one that basically equals Nirvana, even if he will never get as much credit as Kurt in that regard.

Taylor Hawkins is one of the best drummers out there in rock right now.  I like it how he's reviving the great "crazy drummer" tradition, as well as that of the Def Leppard short shorts.

"Learn To Fly" - another great Foos song.

I just saw them play their new song Best Of You on Rove (Australian tv show) tonight, and damn, that was one of the most passionate rock n' roll performances I've seen recently. You could really feel Dave Grohl's pain in his singing, and he was just rocking so hard on his guitar. The drummer was going off too! 

I can't wait to get their new double album In Your Honour in a few weeks time. It's one disc all out rock, and the other disc all acoustic and is supposedly the Foos strongest material to date. And judging by the performance I saw tonight on Rove, I'd have to agree.

I used to like them - but they are so average. While they are not bad, because they are so average they seem bad.

Dave Grohl is an okay singer, writing okay lyrics with okayish riffs and after when u start compaing it to other bands they really seem very poor

Would it kill them to have a solo or too or just make the music a little more intresting? - only the lyrics really seperate the songs

THough their albums tend to have way to many fillers on them.

I have already heard the new Foo Fighters' double disk. The acoustic tracks are killer. The rock disc is good as well, kinda reminds me of the tracks on the Colour and The Shape album, which isn't a bad thing at all, i think that is there best album. They are a good band, i like everything they have done. What I like about Dave Grohl, he isn't afraid to reference alot of bands like GnR, Leppard etc as being great bands, alot of guys like him wouldn't dare give a band like Def Leppard credit for inspiring a song on his last album which he did a few years back, I always respected that about him. There are couple of songs on the rock disc that are going to be huge singles, I have only heard it a few times, but the single they released IMO is the weakest on the album. It is nice having a close friend in the music business.

Well I guess it's a matter of opinion, but I don't think they're average at all and have some great well-crafted pop-rock songs.

I love Next Year!!! Its a kick ass song!! Even though the intro reminds me of some weird pop song.. i think its called "Kiss me" or sumthing... hmm... but the point is! Nexy Year = Awesome song!!

Some of their songs are awesome, while others are disapointing and bland.

Overall I like them.

I saw them during the 2002 Olympics (hanging out, not playing), the drummer was pretty funny.

Right the album came in the post today I just listen to the 1st part and its class I loving this album I am listening to the 2nd part and just pick it up the 2nd part has some of most beautiful songs to listen loving it! any one else picked the album up?

i havent picked it up because it doesn't come out till tomorow, but i've heard most of it because some sites are streaming it like rollingstone.com and myspace etc... I like it alot, the acoustic side is beautiful. I still believe that their best effort was The Colour And The Shape but this new one comes close... Maybe when i buy it and listen to the entire thing on my headphones numerous times it will grow on me enough to say that this one is the best lol.

Yeah they are some really beautiful songs on the 2nd CD! I highly recommend this its really special!

I just hope the first single isnt an indication of what the album is like. I heard it(i think its called best of you?) and i kept waiting for it to rock, but it didnt. I love their work and cant wait to get my grubby mits on that album. :yes:

Got the album on sunday and I've only listened to the rock album so far, and there are some great songs and some rather dull songs on there. I guess I was expecting a bit more when Dave Grohl has been going on about how much he loves this record. Overall I thought there were some better rockers on the last album.

Anyway, I'll give it a few more listens, and I haven't gotten to the acoustic disc yet, but I will soon.

I got the album on monday. Cd 1 I like so far, it still needs to grow on me(if it does) more. As for the second cd, I?m still wrapping my ears and head around it, I like it but I still don?t know if it?s beautiful, boring or if the songs all sound the same. Matter of time I guess.

It's a good album overall.  "resolve", "DOA", and "the deepest blues are black" are great songs and the second album is good for when I feel like chilling out.  I couldn't really find many down points except I'm not really liking the first song on the second album or the one they did with Norah Jones called "Virginina Moon".  It's definately a good album to drive around to and definately worth a listen.

Just picked it up today. Put in the second disk first and I am impressed. The songs are fantastic. Great mood music. These songs are put together so well. Dave Grohl is a talented guy. Almost through the second disk and i will see how the heavy one goes. The single is a good song but didn't really do alot for me. Just for this second disk and i am not even through it all the way on the first listen , i would say it is worth it just for the acoustic stuff.

I can't wait to get my mits on it too! I love the Foo Fighters.

the DVD contains a 20 minute making of documentary, which is both funny and cool. and it's also got the acoustic album in surround sound. :peace:

I love their previous stuff, but I wasn't too thrilled with In Your Honor when I first got it, but now it hasn't left my stereo for weeks. Great band, great album, should be a great concert!

i was a bit dissapointed with In Your Honor, The Color and the Shape is still their crowning achievement..one of my fave albums and their best.

i always find them to be quite weak. im talking about there other albums before the new one since i havent heard that.

I like the odd song by them but i dont like the way everybody loves them all of a sudden just because they released a repetative song that everybody knows and loves because of it. Kerrang suddenly bums them. A few months time and they will have gone to what they were like again, played a few times old "out of trend" band. Until they release another album.

I also agree on the solo thing. Hes not in nirvana anymore so he doesnt need to be "alternative", though to be fair nirvana did do some form of solos.

Too me when Dave Grohl started the Foo Fighters he artistically wanted to follow in the footsteps of the late Kurt Cobain via his lyrics, writing styles and "screams" but its never really seemed to work for them in their best interest. I really liked the Color and the Shape cause there were alot of punk influeneces on it but they've just sucked and have gotten more and more repetitive with each new album. Right after 9/11 too, alot of Canadian rock stations I listen to would not stop playing "Times Like These"...worst song ever. Take a wanker like Dave Grohl and try to make him humbly sing "atriotic material" and its just not a good combination.

I like the song "big me" a lot. The video is funny.

I know what you mean about repetative, cos I think their previous album, One By One, was pretty repetative. I was pretty disappointed in that album, even though it's their most successful album yet.
even Dave Grohl says he's not satisfied with that album.
but this new one is a very good RNR album, I love it, best album to come out in a while!

like they said on the DVD that came with the new album, instead of mixing the two extremes, hard rock and mellow rock, like they have done up till now. they decided to go all the way out in both categories on the new album, and therefor, the rock disc is harder than anything they have released before. and the acoustic disc is more mellow than anything they have done before. :peace:

I downloaded a few songs of the new album recently.."Best of You" -- "Hands on miracle" and " In your Honor". Nothing groundbreaking but good songs. The heavy tunes are heavier than anything I've heard from Foos; good-solid riffs, good drums, good vocals...but Grohl's lyrics suck. Terrible.

"Hands on a miracle" is cheesy. Nice acoustic melody, but the lyrics again could very well have been a anything done by the Backstreet Boys.

The more I listen to the new one the better it gets. I think it is there second best, nothing can beat TCTS album that is great. Whoever posted that Grohl was trying to follow Kurt is totally wrong. They have never done anything that sounded close to a Nirvana song. People always give Grohl shit about capitilizing off Nirvana, sure it didnt hurt he was the drummer for them , but that is not the key to there success by any means. If that were true the few bands Krist Novoselic started would have been successful and out of the three bands he formed not one did anything.

To his credit also the Foo Fighters have never covered one Nirvana song live, in my opinion that just goes to show what kind of guy he is. Most people in his shoes would have played that route and covered atleast one of there songs. :yes:

The new album is definitely a grower. I love it more now than when I first got it.
And listening to One By One again recently, I don't see it as the bad album that the band makes it out to be. There's probably 1 or 2 weaker songs on there, but the rest rocks.

Overall I think Foo Fighters set out to make good pop-punk rock and I don't there's any other band currently out there that does it as good as them.

I still find it ironic that Dave Grohl, the drummer of Nirvana has stepped up to front another band and is a better guitarist/vocalist IMO than Kurt Cobain ever was.

I too think Grohl is a better singer than Kurt. On playing Cobain always got a lot of criticism for his lack of guitar skills but he wasn't bad, his playing fit the songs and he didn't over play so to speak , wasn't flashy either. Grohl is the sameway. He is doesn't overplay either, so on playing skills they are both pretty equal IMO.

and in allot of way i can relate to it, i guess thats why i love it. the song reaches out to me..

yeah I agree, Dave has a cleaner way of playing though, Kurt is a little sloppier, but not in a bad way!
same way Slash is sloppy compared to Eddie Van Halen, a good kind of sloppy! ;D

Anyone else here go to the recent Foo Fighters shows in Australia?
I went ot both Sydney shows and they were both fucking awesome.
Dave Grohl is a hell of a front man, how does he yell for 2 hours straight and not lose his voice???
And as for the setlist, it was hit after hit after hit after hit. Every song had the crowd jumping around, going nuts, and singing at the top of their lungs.

Going to see Motley Crue / Motorhead tonight and they have allot to live up to if they're gonne top those two shows as my fav rock gigs of the year.

I'll go to the 2nd Melb FF show, looking forward to that. Gonna see the Crue/Motorhead thing next week as well.

Another great rock album to look forward to this year! : ok:

In Your Honor was reallly dissapointing. One by One is okay. The Colour and The Shape was fucking fantastic tho, and i hear they are bringing back the producer from that album, if they can rekindle the magic and sound from that record and shy away from the generic rock ditch they've fell into then hell yes!!!!! i still have hope, i'll never give up on Dave Grohl hes the fucking man!!

Speaking of Colour And The Shape, has anyone bought the 10th Anniversary edition that was recently released?
It's been remastered and features additional tracks too.

I don't know...they're pretty good. Not very challenging though. Just sort of Nirvana-lite.

i don't know wabout that, in my opinion Dave Grohl has written much more interesting guitar melodies than Kurt Cobain ever did.

It sucks that all Foo Fighters songs (except everlong) from live earth has been removed from youtube.  :-\ i never ripped the audio from the songs and IMO they were the best performers  :yes:

they've made some decent music since Colour and the Shape but nothing has really impressed me like that album did.

Bought the single on Itunes and it is excellent.

i'm listening now and it is excellent. i've had a big smile on my face the whole time, this is easily their best since The Colour and The Shape. infinitely more interesting and exciting than In Honor, which bored the shit out of me.

dave grohl sounds completely reinvigorated. i'm impressed. i guess reuniting with producer Gil Norton from The Colour and the Shape paid off.

edit: i think my favorite song is "Statues" i wish it was longer tho, theres some awesome stuff going on in that song!!

i just got a conspiracy theory.. i went to isohunt and found it like an hour ago maybe.. started download, while i was downloading i went to piratebay to check it out there and it was the same.. so i read some comments and they all said it was fake and this and that and that you couldn't open the files.. only in paint.. so when i got it i tried VLC, Itunes, windows media player and winamp but nothing worked so i opened it paint and yeah there it was.. a big ass pic of a cave/mine or something.. you know dave wrote a song about some guys that were trapped in a mine for days(weeks) anyway.. so i think it's the record company that leaked this fake version..

pretender is atm the best song.. some songs feel like they are very influenced by other songs.. sometimes it's like a line (like in "statues" - we're just ordinary people also there's piano.. very john legend) Summers end sounds like kinda like another song but dunno what song..

probably my least favourite FF record :-X it still only after 2 listenings though but still..

wow i'm pretty surprised. so u like In Your Honor better? i must've listened to In Your Honor all the way through like maybe 4 times total and i've already listened to this record like 5 times already.

to me this is the most diverse Foo Fighters album, i love the inclusion of piano in some songs as well as the crazy tempo changes. i think this is easily the most cohesive Foo Fighters album in long time, it seemed that ever since The Colour and The Shape they've had their share of filler but i dont consider any of this album filler. i love every song...

there are only three songs on the new album that are at least as good as them and those 3 are:

I agree with you 100%, I think the track Long Road to Ruin might have just topped Hey Johnny Park as my favorite Foo Song.

Like every album I've bought of theirs, they are all growers, and Echoes... is no different. After several listens it starts to reveal how great it really is. I don't know about the Colour And The Shape comparisons, but it is a really strong album, and has some killer tracks on there.

This still has hardly left my cd player. There best release hands down since TCATS. Everything on this is good. Long Road to Ruin is still my favorite , i still think this is the best song they have released. Another one that has really grown on me is Statues. The piano just adds alot to the song, Summers End is another standout. I hope they come to these parts on tour. Dave Grohl is just one talented musician.  It is nice that you no longer hear the Nirvana comparisons, two totally different bands. As much as i loved Nirvana they dont hold a candle to the Foo Fighters not even close. I put in the whole catalog in order the other night , I aways did like Dave's voice but it just got better each album and the new one, his best efforts yet as a vocalist although the acoustic live disk was pretty damn close aswell.

If you can find it go find the cover of Band On the Run, it is great. I finally stumbled upon it last night. Sits right up there with Baker Street on there covers stuff.

Well I went to see these guys last night in Toronto..Im a fan but not a huge fan...Only knowing the singles..A buddy of mine bought me a ticket in exchange for driving...The show was soldout to my suprise...and although it wasnt great...it was good...They had a big catwalk down to an acoustic stage that came down from the rafters....they opened with Let It Die,The Pretender,Times Like These,Breakout and Learn To Fly right off the bat it was awesome..then played some newer songs...

But....a huuge suprise...during Taylor Hawkins drum solo..He says id like to introduce you to two people...Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee from RUSH...They come out on stage and played YYZ with Hawkins....didnt say anything..just played a superb version and walked off stage...Grohl was seen on the side of the stage sitting watching...he came out after and say goodnight haha it was funny....He is a true down to earth guy though...and you get your moneys worth...2 hours+ you dont see very often still these days...These guys are good to there fans...Dave talked to the crowd for about 5 minutes twice...anyways it was a decent show...but was cool Rush was there

Yeah dude, I saw them at the Forum earlier this month, and I was quite impressed.

Like you, I only know a few songs as I am not their biggest fan by any stretch of the imagination.  But those guys put on a great show.

The one I went to, Stewart Copeland came out and played the drums during the encore.  The second night, Lemmy Kilmister joined them for a song.

That acoustic stage is very impressive.

I felt embarrassed for them covering Carly Simon last night. Nothing against her, I like the song, but it seemed so out of their element...but at least Dave's voice was in better shape than other recent on-air shows.

Foo Fighters are awesome ! Went to see them live at the wembley shows with Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones as special guests.... alot of energy... the songs are great to sing along too as well.

As for the albums i have two favourites... the first album because it one of the atmospheric albums ive listened too and There Is Nothing Left To Lose is one of those albums that nearly every song could be a radiohit.

They had gotten real cookie cutter and generic sounding the past 3 albums or so. Hopefully they have broken out of that.

He has the look?long, thick black hair; he has the talent?he plays the drums, guitar and piano, he sings and he writes his own songs; and, above all, he has both pedigree and credibility.


In the early 1990s, as drummer with seminal grunge band Nirvana, Grohl helped change the face of popular music. Today, as lead singer with stadium-filling rock giants Foo Fighters, he is a multi-millionaire who has sold more than 15 million albums worldwide, won six Grammy awards and is president of his own record label. Alongside Foo Fighters he has a number of side projects (including supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, with Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones); a documentary about his band shot by Oscar-winning director James Moll was released last month and his seventh album, Wasting Light, is out on Monday. Saw the documentary last week, and afterwards they screened the band performing the whole album with no cuts in Dave's garage.

Foo Fighters new album ?Wasting Light? is looking like becoming the fastest selling album for the band since 2006.

Hitsdailydouble.com is tracking ?Wasting Light? to sell more than 215,000 copies in the first week in the USA giving Foo Fighters their best debut since ?In Your Honor? in 2005.

Foo Fighters last studio album ?Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace? did 169,000 in the first week when it was released in September, 2007.

?Wasting Light? will also be the forth fastest selling album of 2011 behind Adele, Britney Spears and Chris Brown. All, as Hits points out, are Sony releases.

Other big sellers expected to debut on next week?s chart are ?Paper Airplane? by Alison Krauss and ?So Beautiful or So What? by Paul Simon.

According to Hits, Adele will regain the number one spot tomorrow with her ?21? album. It sold 88,000 units in the past week. The biggest debut this week will be ?American Tragedy? by Hollywood Undead. It should come in this week at number 3.

I've listened to Wasting Light back to front almost non-stop the last few days, and while I still think Color & The Shape is their best album, this is certainly up there alongside it.

There are no Everlong's or My Hero's on here, but Bridges Burning is like the new Monkey Wrench, and White Limo sounds like something off the first album.
Dear Rosemary and Arlandria are awesome mid-tempo rockers, and Rope is great too, the middle drum solo breakdown part is killer.

My Foo Fighters album is One By One. Im kinda disappointed with Wasting Light, but i like Rope and  1 or 2 more songs on there

Oh, what a night we had last Sunday at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. The glitz! The Glamour! SEACREST! Where do I begin?? Chillin' with Lil' Wayne...meeting Cyndi Lauper's adorable mother...the complimentary blinking Coldplay bracelet.....much too much to recap. It's really is still a bit of a blur. But, if there's one thing that I remember VERY clearly, it was accepting the Grammy for Best Rock Performance...and then saying this:

Well, me and my big mouth. Never has a 33 second acceptance rant evoked such caps-lock postboard rage as my lil' ode to analog recording has. OK....maybe Kanye has me on this one, but....Imma let you finish....just wanted to clarify something...

I love music. I love ALL kinds of music. From Kyuss to Kraftwerk, Pinetop Perkins to Prodigy, Dead Kennedys to Deadmau5.....I love music. Electronic or acoustic, it doesn't matter to me. The simple act of creating music is a beautiful gift that ALL human beings are blessed with. And the diversity of one musician's personality to the next is what makes music so exciting and.....human.

That's exactly what I was referring to. The "human element". That thing that happens when a song speeds up slightly, or a vocal goes a little sharp. That thing that makes people sound like PEOPLE. Somewhere along the line those things became "bad" things, and with the great advances in digital recording technology over the years they became easily "fixed". The end result? I my humble opinion.....a lot of music that sounds perfect, but lacks personality. The one thing that makes music so exciting in the first place.

And, unfortunately, some of these great advances have taken the focus off of the actual craft of performance. Look, I am not Yngwie Malmsteen. I am not John Bonham. Hell...I'm not even Josh Groban, for that matter. But I try really fucking hard so that I don't have to rely on anything but my hands and my heart to play a song. I do the best that I possibly can within my limitations, and accept that it sounds like me. Because that's what I think is most important. It should be real, right? Everybody wants something real.

I don't know how to do what Skrillex does (though I fucking love it) but I do know that the reason he is so loved is because he sounds like Skrillex, and that's badass. We have a different process and a different set of tools, but the "craft" is equally as important, I'm sure. I mean.....if it were that easy, anyone could do it, right? (See what I did there?)

So, don't give me two Crown Royals and then ask me to make a speech at your wedding, because I might just bust into the advantages of recording to 2 inch tape.

Now, I think I have to go scream at some kids to get off my lawn.

FOO FIGHTERS To Release 'Concrete And Gold' Album In September; U.S. Tour Announced

"I wanted it to be the biggest-sounding FOO FIGHTERS record ever. To make a gigantic rock record but with Greg Kurstin's sense of melody and arrangement? MOT?RHEAD's version of 'Sgt. Pepper'? or something like that."

So speaks Dave Grohl of the mission statement made manifest in FOO FIGHTERS' ninth epic, the aptly titled "Concrete And Gold", due out September 15 worldwide on Roswell Records / RCA Records and available for preorder now.

Just as FOO FIGHTERS' anthem of the summer, "Run", "opens as a dreamy, slow burner then? quickly turns heavy as thunder" (Billboard) with its "huge triumphant chorus" (Stereogum), "Concrete And Gold" marries some of the most insanely heavy FF riffs ever with lush harmonic complexities courtesy of a first time team-up with producer Greg Kurstin (ADELE, SIA, PINK).

This unlikely alliance came about through a bizarre sequence of surprise musical obsessions and chance encounters: Listening to the radio during a drive roughly four years ago, Grohl first heard "Again And Again" by Kurstin's band THE BIRD & THE BEE. "It blew my mind," he said. "It was so much more sophisticated than anything I'd ever heard and I became obsessed."

Some months later, Grohl would randomly spot and fanboy out over "the guy from THE BIRD & THE BEE!" a.k.a. Greg Kurstin. The two became fast friends over common musical loves with Grohl learning that his new favorite band had been on hiatus due to Kurstin's workload as a producer.

While FOO FIGHTERS recorded and released "Sonic Highways", broke some bones and packed stadiums and arenas on one of the top five grossing tours of 2015, and gifted fans with the "St. Cecilia" EP, "Greg was becoming one of the biggest producers in the world," Grohl recalls.

With the writing and recording of the next FOO FIGHTERS album on the horizon, Grohl was eager as always to find fresh challenges for the band: "So I think maybe Greg is the guy that we ask to be our producer because he's never made a heavy rock record before and we've never worked with a pop producer." Darrel Thorp (BECK, RADIOHEAD) was soon enlisted to mix and engineer. This collective conceived a blueprint of the new record as "MOT?RHEAD's version of 'Sgt. Pepper'... or something like that," secretly booking into Hollywood's esteemed EastWest studios to consummate this marriage of extremes... or as Grohl puts it: "Our noise and Greg's big brain and all of his sophisticated arrangements and composition."
