Title: Anthem rockers
Post by: the dirt on September 26, 2004, 11:05:12 PM
You know those anthem rockers that were a major reason GNR became famous for in the begining like PC, WTTJ, etc...

Do you think Axl has songs of this sort in the works? The "arena rock power song" has been dying out steadily, compared to back when GNR were climbing the charts.

I'm leaning towards the fact that these songs are a thing of the past with axl. Not saying that the songs won't be good, but those classic anthem types are a longshot.

Well I remember reading from either Tommy or Dizzy back in 2002 that CD will have all kinds of songs. He said anthems, ballads, all out rockers...but he did mention anthems...Si im guessing we might get 1 or 2

Like younggunner said, i reckon were gonna get all kinds of shit, to me the song Chinese Democracy is an anthem in itself, but not the anthem rockers your talkin' about.

when i 1st heard " Love it loud" by Kiss i realized how powerful these "anthem songs" are .
" Love it loud " is the Pure definition of anthemrock.
PC is close behind.

I don't know about "anthem" rockers; there haven't been too many good ones recently from any band, let alone Gn'r.  I do think there will be hard rock songs, like songs on Contraband (at least in tempo).  I think most of the "big stuff" though are ballad and epics, and those are the ones I believe Axl will release as singles, videos, etc.  That's of course if there is ever an album.

I think The General will be similar to Civil War style type song.  Maybe with a movie intro and several clips in between with an Axl rant.  As far as the titles go with anthem style rock I would have to say "Seven", but I have a feeling we'll see a lot of longer epic style songs like "This I love".

All I can say is that there better be one song that makes me wanna pump my fist in the air and shout, like "Nightrain" or "You Could Be Mine".  There's something vaguely anthemic about each of those.  In terms of true anthems, I think GN'R's only got one - "Paradise City".  "Welcome to the Jungle" is less an anthem and more like just the most kick-ass rocker ever recorded.  But somehow I don't think there'll be too many anthems on the next record.  Industrial experiments don't lend themselves well to anthemic stadium rock.

Thats so untrue. Do you think a major reason Queen became famous was because of arena music? UMM, dont think so. And if you watch hockey, they still play GNR at every game. It's just WTTJ fits that type of game and gets everyone pumped. And We Will Rock You is also a fit. I dont think they'll die out.  A good memorable song only comes around once in a while.
