Title: Another Axl reference on Metal Sludge
Post by: Mattman on September 14, 2004, 11:55:20 PM
This is from an interview with Mandy Lion, who is the singer for a band called WWIII.

6. What 'rock star' deserves a smack in the mouth and why?

Axl Rose... That guy was lucky enough to get support from millions of fans for years even though singing on key is as impossible for him as it is for Richard Simmons to get a hard-on for a naked chick. Anyone that has 17,000 fans buying tickets and waiting for him to perform and then won't show up because a cop gave him a ticket or has to get high instead deserves a fucking kick in the ass!

- - - -  - - - - - -  - - - - -  - - - - - - - - -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - >

This loser from a no-name band that nobody's ever heard of has no right to criticize Axl Rose.  Not only does Axl sing on-key, he does it better and more originally than any other rock vocalist you can name!  That said, it WAS fucked-up of him to stand his fans up at the Vancouver and Philly shows.  But I didn't need Mandy whats-his-face to tell me that.

Axl is one of the greatest "in key" rock singers. Listen to Don't cry to hear what I mean. : ok:

I saw that as well.. If you have read the interviews with all the people they have done that with, you will in fact see that a lot of them mention Axl on the question "what rock star deserves a smack in the mouth?" But sometimes there are a lot who mention Axl,Slash, all the GnR members of the past with respect as well, so it goes both ways...

Of course he has, just as much as you have the right to criticize him (=Mandy whatever). I personally couldn't care less.

(Off-topic: now playing Johnny Thunders - You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory, acoustic live -this is the funniest shit ever!!  ;D)

That guy also criticized Ian Astbury for "stealing his look".  It seems like sour grapes from these guys who never made it.  Now, Jim Morrison, he might have a beef with Astbury.  lol

There's a lot of shit about Axl on that site, they trash whoever, whenever.
Did you know they gave Axl the "Fuck You" Award?? ::)

Yeah, but some of the thing is like stuff that others are to afraid to say themselves, you know?
As I said before, a lot of the people involved in the LA metal and rock scene have said a lot of posetive things about GnR and it's ex-members.. Slash, Duff, Izzy, Steven, Gilby,Axl...

If you look on the poll section of metal sludge

Under 'which band, who would form with the original members be most popular'  (something along the lines of that)

And GNR absolutely wanks it

Still so much love for GnR

Axl is not about being a diva on stage either...

when people bash him for singing off-key,

So it's only divas that don't sing off-key on stage?

But I like it when it's not perfect on stage, when they improvise a little, some false notes here and there.. But if you sing a complete show off key a number of different times, well, then you suck !  Axl have sung perfectly live many, many times even if he sometimes had problems with his voice, so he has proven that he can pull the job done..!  :peace:

He sings like a diva sometimes too by the way\ not only diva's dosen't sing off key but thats not the point
he is just ripping on his vocal chords sometimes, that's what i like the most with his vocals
Rock is more real in that way... (imo) ::)

Metal Sludge isn`t exactly the authority on music.

Heard they ran a Stryper article last month.

Axl is the greatest frontman to me and I wouldnt rather see anyone more then him (except maybe queen, but thats no possible) I love everythign about him, But you have to admit that ANYONE who ruins 17,000 people nights/lifes, needs a kick in the ass. Think of the people who rioted and got arrested, they will have that for the rest of their lives, They might of just been drunk guys looking to see their man Axl, but instead they were jailed and the rest of their life wont be the same. Or all the times he goes on hours late making people stay up all night and maybe miss work.

I love Axl so much, He is the man but on this next tour he needs to realise and respect his fans, like the guys who have been there since the 80's.

You know, Cowbell, you've really got a good point there.  A lot of times our fan-worship of Axl blinds us to the fact that, yeah, he CAN be an asshole.  I guess I might have a different point of view if I had actually been at the Vancouver or Philly concerts.  I know I hate waiting between sets at concerts for the roadies to set up all the shit...but waiting for like three hours, finding out the guy you want to see isn't showing, and then getting caught in a riot?  Fuck that.  As much as I love Axl for being real, for being whoever he wants to be, sometimes that's not the greatest thing.  Maybe he should take a page out of Steven Tyler's book...the man is over 50, still has a bad boy image, but is known for being one of the nicest guys in showbiz towards his fans.

Yeah..  The stars shoulden't forget who's payin the bills and gives them financial freedom to whatever they want to do.. It's the fans, so they should never treat the fans as shit ! I mean, if you really don't like being a star, then don't.

He's raw. On some songs (like coma) he fucking sings his ass off till he almost croaking through the songs.
Some don't like seeing all that and would maybe preferres shorter trimmed down sets-

But, i think it' cool that you see and hear that side of the artist too IMO

What would be really cool is if Axl wrote a song about all the shit that HE has put Guns fans through.  It would be a legendary act of humility from a legendarily self-absorbed frontman.

No he does, sometimes, I just recently got my hands on a copy of MSG 2002, and he's definately off key on the first part of madagascar, a couple other tunes to on that show. But hey, he's human what can you do.  You can't be a God all the time ;D .

Fuck man I'm usually of key when I talk :hihi:

Nice thought...but it'll never happen :-\...that might actually convince me that he has the capability of being a nice human being :hihi:

From what I have seen, when Axl is on stage, he gives 100%. SOme shows are better than others, but he never goes out there and gives a half ass show. Not everybody is like that. Metal Sludge can kiss my ass.

I always thought whenever he was off key it was when he was running around from one side of the stage to the other, when I've seen him he barely stops moving for 2 seconds.  How many people can sing perfectly while they are running full out?

He needs to do the running when hes not in full verse. It would make the performences much better. Why cant he stand still to sing instead of taking off at full speed for 100 yards.
