GUNS N' ROSES bassist Tommy Stinson has told the Rocky Mountain News that the group's long-delayed, well-over-budget album, "Chinese Democracy", is almost out.

"I'll probably be touring [my solo] record up till the end of the year," he said. "Then I'm thinking the GNR record will be coming out real soon after that. Then I'll be touring behind that record. I'm anticipating being on the road for the next year and a half, two years."

According to Stinson, "Chinese Democracy" "is almost done. Closer than it has ever been, for certain. I went and listened to some of the songs before I left L.A. to make sure my two cents were thrown in, so to speak. I was pretty stoked about it. I heard some really, really great stuff that I hadn't heard in a long time."

Stinson is currently touring in support of his solo debut, "Village Gorilla Head", which was released in July through Sanctuary Records.

The founding REPLACEMENTS member recorded the material for the set in a Los Angeles studio owned by Charles Thompson (a.k.a. Frank Black) with contributions from A PERFECT CIRCLE drummer Josh Freese, his brother Jason Freese on saxophone, CATHOLICS guitarist Dave Philips, and GNR guitarist Richard Fortus and keyboardist Dizzy Reed.

This is probably some of the best news we've heard in a while... It seems like with each successive interview Tommy has a bigger and bigger gut feeling about the album being released soon. But then again, he still doesn't seem to know exactly when it's coming out. Either way, something will happen soon... I can feel it.

You know what this means then right.
No CD this year.

He says the same thing every time....now he is touring till the end of the year....then it will be spring...then summer.zzzzzzzzzzzzz. :-[

He barely even knows what the record sounds like ::) I wonder if we know more about it than he does - lol, he'll be first in line to buy it just to find out what its like - and he alledgedly is part of the band!!!

I really think cd is round the corner, if it's released early next year we will get some sort of official statement one or two months ahead. That means november or december a word of gn'r camp? perhaps a single to sink in?  ;)

They recorded so much stuff, he doesn't even know what Axl is going to put on the record...or what Axl has done to it. Tommy's job was done a while ago. He was finished in Feb/March of 2003. This is funny as hell. OK, I will go against conventional wisdom and say the album will be released in the time we least expect it-January 05. It will be a new quarter for the record company and they can begin the year with a bang.  :P :P

When you recorder over 70 songs that will span three albums, im sure he will forget what a few sounded like, esp if they have been done since 2001

I agree - but i'd like to see where we have evidence that they have done 70 songs. Its all guess work, and it saddens me that the bands bassist has so little idea of whats going on with the album.

Back in 2001 or so when Brian May listen to all the finished songs Axl had, May said there were over 3 albums of material.
That was 3 years ago, and we all know they have writtten more songs since then.

brian may 2003 radio interview.. he didnt exactly say 70 songs but he said "more than 2 albums worth"

i'm saying we won't see it till summer at the earliest.....i'm also guessing that the jan/feb european tour is a 50/50 chance at best.....very sad that tommy hasn't heard this stuff in so long. i would think he would be listening to rough cuts of the album and songs from it fairly regularly.

That is why the songs have not leakead out.
Because there are not cd-rs of the rough cuts laying around everywhere.

Once the songs are done they move on and forget about them.

Here's the deal-Axl has control of all the music-period. The band comes in completes all their parts-by all accounts-ALOT of material-30-40-60-100 songs whatever (instrumentals). Axl then takes this body of work and does his vocals, mixing, tweaking, changing, cutting and pasting whatever, until he has a record HE wants. During this time he can call people back in to the studio at various stages to contribute small things back in to the mix. Simple as that. Whether one album, two albums or no albums come out of this, ONLY AXL can decide because all this has been done for HIM. When he has a body of work he wants to share with the world, then we will have a release date. ;D

Forget that...Axl said it himself in the 1999 MTV interview.

March 2005 is what he's trying to tell us.  But will the world tour be called Chinese Democracy World Tour once again?  I mean how can you tour under the same name twice.  It's getting double the promotion.

Dave I can't believe you were the first to point this out! But it's true, no way is November possible or even Christmas, if what Tommy's saying is true. I can't say it's thrilling to know that it *might* be out beginning of next year. I've been waiting since 93, been hearing 'beginning of next year' since 99.

this news is ok but its just wait after wait if it doesnt come out by spring axl should just competlely cancel this band out and live his life without music..

Being "slated" for release means shit now as we all learned from VH1 slated November release which obviously isn't happening.  A few more "months" out of Axl and we will see CD see light of day once and for all and maybe a few others down the road of 2005.

MNM and U2 have albums coming out both in Nov/dec
I really dont think interscope would want three huge releases in the same month or within four weeks of each other
that is why I think interscope will let axl put it out in 2005

One day, just ONE FUCKING DAY I'd like to read "Chinese Democracy is FINISHED and will be released...", but all we hear is it's almost done, it'll be out this year for sure, its coming, its close to being done, just some last minute tweaking to do etc etc etc.

Us GN'R fans are suckers for punishment.

With that much material, I think it will be worth the wait once we receive the final product.

All these things were stated by the Administrator.

When people say that they're doing something till the end of the year it doesn't mean 31st December for fucks sake.

Considering how many people don't believe the things Tommy says, it's funny how when he says something like that it must mean he's touring untill 31st December  ::)

End of year = Any time in December, maybe even end of November.

And.... if you're gonna take him literally he did say CD coming real soon after that.

It's all a matter of interpretation.

It certainly does not mean no CD this year. Far from it.

I'm not saying it's going to come out this year, but late NOV/DEC is still a possibility.
If/when the label is assured the CD is finished and ready to roll, they'll be more than willing to release it this year during the holiday season.
If Axl still is tweaking stuff and dicking around, they'll end up delaying it a couple of more months. Regardless, don't discount a 2004 just yet.

I suppose technically it is closer to being done than ever before.  I mean, we have to be one day closer to the release today than yesterday  ;D

But, I've heard so many stories from Tommy and Dizzy in the last two years stating it was almost finished and would be out soon that I'm not going to get excited until I hear a new single on the radio...
