Title: Warrant Post by: Mattman on November 03, 2003, 12:13:52 AM Does anyone else hear like Warrant? To me, the first time I saw the video for "Heaven", I was so appalled by how lame it looked I had to turn off the TV. They seemed like a boy band with guitars - pretty boys singing some sappy ballad with teen-pop lyrics. That was a long time ago. As time went on, I got more and more into pop-metal, and eventually hair-metal. But Warrant still seemed a little too...boy bandish for me to like them. I saw the video for "Cherry Pie", and I thought, "I can't identify with those guys." But the song got stuck into my head, and I started liking it, then loving it. Having bought a Poison album and found myself ok with it, I decided to give Warrant a try and bought their greatest hits, although by this time I figured it would be pretty good.
And it WAS. I like "Heaven" now, but the really amazing thing was "I Saw Red", the acoustic version. That totally broke the mold of Warrant for me and made me see just how talented a songwriter Jani Lane really is. It's just so emotional, delicate, and well-written, you get the sense that these guys are totally unappreciated. After hearing "Down Boys", "Mr. Rainmaker", "Uncle Tom's Cabin", and a whole bunch of others, I can now say that I really love Warrant, and see them for the great, underrated rock band that they were. I was wondering if anybody else felt the same way. Warrant always seemed like the breaking point between pop-metal and pop - kind of like Poison. But having actually LISTENED to both bands, I can safely say that both are really great rock 'n' roll bands, at least to me. Title: Re:Warrant Post by: Gunner80 on November 03, 2003, 12:37:18 AM Love Em' My favorite song is "Uncle Tom's Cabin".

Also, a question: Didn't these guys have like 33 band members throughout their careers? Ans was Jani Lane always their singer? Title: Re:Warrant Post by: Gunner80 on November 04, 2003, 01:41:28 PM Don't even try to ask me. :hihi:  :peace: This coming from a person who listens to the fat boys. ::)Title: Re:Warrant Post by: D on November 04, 2003, 05:51:45 PM After reading what Mattman and D said, i'm gonna have to check them out. Also, a question: Didn't these guys have like 33 band members throughout their careers? Ans was Jani Lane always their singer? first three warrant records are fan fuckin tastic, i bought one more after that i cant remember the name but it sucked the first three are awesome, my fav is dog eat dog the song "the bitter pill" has a big opera in the middle, it is awesome, download the bitter pill and andy warhol was right u will be fucking hooked, jani lane has one of the best voices ever yes they changed members around a whole lot, jani lane is the one consistent force i know of he writes all the songs though by himself, he is very very talented songs i recommend u download "the dirt" to get u started, if u like go buy their first 3 cd's u will love em heaven, down boys, sometimes she cries, cherry pie,i saw red*which is so fuckin powerful* blind faith, uncle toms cabin, machine gun, hole in my wall, april 2031,andy warhol was right, the bitter pill, quicksand, let it rain try these for starters, they are great! Title: Re:Warrant Post by: Dizzy on November 04, 2003, 05:59:17 PM They are okay. I saw them live back in August. As has been mentioned, they're not even the same band anymore. I think the original drummer is left along with Jani Lane. I could be wrong though.
Jani can still sing, though he looks ridiculous now. He shaved his head and really let himself go on the fast food after Warrant's heydey ended. Title: Re:Warrant Post by: SLCPUNK on November 05, 2003, 01:25:13 AM They get ragged on alot but they really turned out some good tunes.
Jani is very bloated right now and looks rather pathetic, sad to say. I mean he looked like shit in the pics I saw of him. You could barely tell he's the same guy. He makes Vince Neil look like Mr. Goodbody! Uncle Toms cabin kicks ass! Title: Re:Warrant Post by: Mattman on November 05, 2003, 04:09:31 PM first three warrant records are fan fuckin tastic, i bought one more after that i cant remember the name but it sucked the first three are awesome, my fav is dog eat dog the song "the bitter pill" has a big opera in the middle, it is awesome, download the bitter pill and andy warhol was right u will be fucking hooked, jani lane has one of the best voices ever yes they changed members around a whole lot, jani lane is the one consistent force i know of he writes all the songs though by himself, he is very very talented songs i recommend u download "the dirt" to get u started, if u like go buy their first 3 cd's u will love em heaven, down boys, sometimes she cries, cherry pie,i saw red*which is so fuckin powerful* blind faith, uncle toms cabin, machine gun, hole in my wall, april 2031,andy warhol was right, the bitter pill, quicksand, let it rain try these for starters, they are great! For starters? You've got enough songs on there to make up an entire album. But I digress...I would suggest just buying the greatest hits for starters, because then you can get their best and decide whether or not you like them. Besides, from what I hear, a lot of the hair bands of the 80s that are less well-known today had a lot of filler on their albums. Don't know if that's true, but I'm just telling you what I think I heard. But IMHO, buying the greatest hits is worth it just for the acoustic version of "I Saw Red", which is better than the original. It's more simple, sparse, and directly emotional that way - you forgot all about Warrant being a "hair band" and just hear a great song. I heard "Machine Gun" and "Hole in the Wall" from their Dog days on the best-of, and they're good, but I don't like them as much as their hair band stuff. I don't know, but they don't seem to have the same power as Bon Jovi to make darker music and still be great (I mean, These Days is my favourite BJ album). Still, D, you obviously think it's great, so maybe I'll give it a try. Title: Re:Warrant Post by: D on November 05, 2003, 06:16:10 PM of course they dont have the power of bon jovi this is warrant we are talking about! lol!
dog eat dog is a cd where every song is good in its own right, download "the bitter pill" and "let it rain" off of dog eat dog, machine gun and hole in my wall are probably the two weakest songs on the whole cd in all honesty on DRFSR and cherry pie cd's there is tons of filler in my opinion but on dog eat dog every song is pretty good especially the ones ive mentioned april 2031 is a post nuclear holocaust song that is very strange but great andy warhol was right is great and u have to hear the bitter pill and let it rain even if u download them Title: Re:Warrant Post by: Thumper on November 06, 2003, 07:32:53 PM They suck. Don't waste your money seeing them in concert ever.

You should download that. They just got too mainstream with the duet with Chubby Checkers and the Beach Boys Title: Re:Warrant Post by: journey on November 07, 2003, 03:35:05 PM I really liked Warrant when I was growing up.
The last I heard, Jani Lane had opened up his own restaurant in Ohio. I wonder if it's still open. I don't know, maybe I dreamt the whole thing. Does anyone else know anything about that? Title: Re:Warrant Post by: BabyJenks on November 12, 2003, 11:14:45 AM I know a guy who is friends with Jani and he is in Ohio last i heard, Cincinnati i think. As for the restaurant thing, i have no idea.
Title: Re:Warrant Post by: SLCPUNK on November 14, 2003, 12:18:12 AM There's alot about him on Metal Sludge (including a couple of interviews) but from what I've heard you should take that (metal sludge) with a grain of salt. According to them he's a major alcoholic.
Title: Warrant Post by: RichardNixon on August 08, 2004, 02:02:46 PM Yeah, I admit it, I like them. There such an easy target. Their music and image just oozes cheese. I mean the matching white leather suits in the "Heaven" video is about the gayest "metal" moment in MTV history.
Still, I think that they were one of the best rock bands of that genre and era. Jani Lane is still a great songwriter and there music did have undeniable hooks. I'm rockin out to Dirty Rotten Stinking Filthy Rich as I write this. Title: Re: Warrant Post by: gnrmadagascar on August 08, 2004, 07:11:34 PM I like a few of there songs, but esp. Uncle Tom's Cabin, great song!

Title: Re: Warrant Post by: slave2thegrind on August 09, 2004, 04:19:05 PM As far as hair metal goes...they're alright.
Uncle Tom's Cabin is definitely a cool song...I like Cherry Pie and Train Train as well. Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Thorned Rose on August 09, 2004, 06:35:06 PM "Blind Faith" on Cherry Pie
That's all I have to say... :D Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Mattman on August 09, 2004, 11:14:13 PM I love Warrant! I've always thought that groups like them and Poison were very underrated. Warrant especially, because they boasted some incredibly strong songwriting. "Uncle Tom's Cabin" is a masterpiece, "Cherry Pie" is the ultimate party song as far as I'm concerned, and "I Feel Red" is an astonishingly beautiful ballad, far superior to the more contrived and commercial "Heaven". And they've got a lot of good songs that are just good riff-rockers, like "Thin Disguise", "Mr. Rainmaker", and stuff like that. Yeah, I gotta admit, the first time I saw the video for "Cherry Pie", I turned it off and thanked the Lord above for grunge. But that was a couple years ago. I've long since grown to love the band. They're just a good, fun rock 'n' roll band. Too bad Jani Lane went the way of Vince Neil - fat, alcoholic, and barely able to sing his own songs.
Title: Re: Warrant Post by: D on August 09, 2004, 11:22:12 PM Dog Eat Dog is one of the most underrated albums ever
there are songs on this record that doesnt sound like anything ever released before or since the bitter pill and april 2031 are just unbelievable class songs, let it rain is an amazingly sad ballad, it has some good rockers as well andy warhol was right is an amazing slow introspective song this cd is warrants best in my opinion!!!!!!!! Title: Re: Warrant Post by: matt88 on August 10, 2004, 06:33:21 AM I only like Cherry Pie
Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Gunner80 on August 10, 2004, 12:37:01 PM I like DRFTR and Cherrie Pie. : ok:

Damn, I hate agreeing with D. I have to on this though, Dog Eat Dog is a great cd, it does have some throw aways on it, but D i right every single one of those songs are great, IMO. This cd totally changed my opinion on Warrant. Too bad they didnt follow it up with the same effort/intensity Title: Re: Warrant Post by: D on August 12, 2004, 07:12:45 AM yeah i was so thrilled to pick the follow up to that but it was so horrible i cant even remember the title, april 2031 is amazing! i mean that song is unbelievable, its just too bad more people havent ever heard it!
that song and some others on that cd prove that warrant were more than a cheesy 80's band jani lane is fuckin talented, case closed! Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Hammy on December 13, 2005, 10:29:40 PM WARRANT have signed a new deal with German label MTM Music. The album's title, Born Again, features their new singer, Jaime St. James, who is famous for being the vocalist of BLACK 'N BLUE, and internationally acclaimed producer and engineer Pat Regan (KISS, DEEP PURPLE, MR. BIG, LA GUNS). Born Again delivers classic 80's hard rock with the band's trademark touch of poser and sleaze metal. The track list for Born Again is as follows: 'Devils Juice', 'Dirty Jack', 'Bourbon County Line', 'Hell, CA.', 'Angels', 'Love Strikes Like Lightning', 'Glimmer', 'Roller Coaster', 'Down In Diamonds', 'Velvet Noose', 'Roxy', 'Good Times'

Title: Re: Warrant Post by: RichardNixon on December 16, 2005, 11:33:05 PM If you go to Melodicrock.com you can listen to samples. Sounds really good! It says that it's due out 2/17.
Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Hammy on February 27, 2006, 02:06:41 PM According to a post at former WARRANT frontman JANI LANE's MySpace page, www.myspace.com/janilane, he has entered a retreat. The post was made by 'She" (Sheila). "Hi everyone! I just wanted to let you know that Jani is at a retreat for a couple of months, and won't be by a computer. I have been letting him know about all of your messages. Thank you! They mean alot to him..."
A retreat? So he's still got a lot of problems that need sorting by the sounds of things, it's a shame, would be good to see him return as frontman although that's probably very unlikely now.... Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Thorned Rose on January 24, 2008, 03:22:28 PM D is so right on man. It's crazy. I've said this so many times but our opinions on rock bands is very close to the same.
I love Warrant, and thought I would dig this thread up. They are one of the sterotyped cliched' bands of the late 80s. They are so much more than Cherry Pie and DFRSR. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrant_%28band%29 I was just looking at this earlier and although I'm familair with their early work and all that, I never did check out Dog Eat Dog and because of D I did and I looked them up on wiki. Dog Eat Dog is a lost gem of a album and I agree with everything that D said. "Sad Theresa" is a good song too. It's a very nice blend of like half and half. 6 softer acoustic songs and about 6 midtempo-rock songs. Love it. They are really great. I just picked up "Born Again" "Under the Unfluence" and "Ultraphobic". Born Again is the one without Lane... haven't listened to it enough to judge, but Lane is missed on the vocals and you can't beat Lane in Warrant. Great vocalists. Well later. Title: Re: Warrant Post by: mrlee on January 24, 2008, 03:37:22 PM bonfire is a great song they did on dog eat dog, and bridges are burning
Title: Re: Warrant Post by: bazgnr on January 24, 2008, 04:17:26 PM "Bitter Pill" was my favorite. "Brides are Burning" is a great one, too. That really was a good album, you know?
Title: Re: Warrant Post by: Getizzyback on March 04, 2008, 08:18:17 PM Guys, a couple of weeks ago, Blabbermouth reported that Jani has patched
things up with the rest of the Warrant gang, and he is rejoining the group. Maybe a possible summer tour and dare I say it....a new album? HOPEFULLY! For the record, I really like Ultraphobic, it's more underated than even Dog Eat Dog IMO.When I got it, I played it and L.A. Guns "Vicious Circle" for what seemed like a year OVER and OVER, when they came out, I still listen from time to time.Recently with Bach's new Angel Down coming out, I have rediscovered Skid Row, and are pretty much in to them, but I did play the crap out of Born Again for a couple of months back when it came out.Bouban County Line, Hell,CA...,and Crazy Jack do rock, and Jamie St. James did a good job (better than expected) on the songs.......BUT WELCOME BACK TO THE MASTER!
