Title: Single number 3 and 4
Post by: duga on August 15, 2004, 06:18:36 PM
I hope for Big Machine (better than Slither) and You got no right (better than FTP)

I don't understand why some are pissed about Falling to pieces being a single when Duff even said there are definitely 4 good singles on the record before it came out. They can release You Got No Right as the 4th single! What a great way to end this great run eh!

Alright, look I liked the single selections so far... very typical and also very effective. Slither may of been better to release as the 2nd single... the harder edged song as the 2nd single may of caught attention in appeal to Fall to Pieces if it was selected first.

#1 Slither
#2 Fall To Pieces
#3 Superhuman
#4 Loving The Alien

This is my 4 single picks and would be the smartest move. I wouldn't mind substituting You Got No Right in there. The way this album will pick up with another tour in October through March and so on... I think it is 5 singles strong with the 5th single coming in October-November of 2005. I think that would be a good thing for them. I think this is what should happen.... VR rock anyways... I'm sure they will make good decisions.

Loving The Alien is the best overall song on the album... it must be released.

If this album gets to a fifth single it wont be til next year. Slither has been around since May. It had a 3 month run. I am sure FTP will have atleast a two month run if not 3 months and around Oct-November there should be a third single.

There are two good songs left; YGNR and LTA. For obvious reasons VR won't released both songs as singles, so that will leave them with a tough decision to make due to the fact that there are no good rocker tunes left. They are all average.

I tell what would be a great idea though. It's a pity this song is not in the album, but Cheap Trick's Surrender could've been the perfect 3rd single. I haven't heard how they cover it yet, but that song sure kicks ass. Too bad it's not in the album....but what the hell, they could release a limited edition of Contraband with the song "Surrender" in it. Kinda like Oasis did with the song " Whatever" which wasn't included in the Definitely Maybe CD, but later released as a part of the album in a later edition of CD.

I'll add "Big Machine" and "Superhuman" to the list of above average.

And please, no covers on a proper album, let alone as singles for cryin' out loud.  An occasional b side maybe....

I just can't get into this album yet. I've tried, but the songs you mention won't do it for me. " Do it for the kids" may be the only rocker with single potential left. Even the rock STP tunes sound way better than VR's...

Thats too bad...I figured at least "Sucker Train Blues" would appeal to most rock fans.? Dont see how anybody can not think that song is great, but...appraently you think "Slither"s the albums only good rocker.?

As for STPs "rock" songs (which is about 70% of their catalogue), they were one of the best bands around, so thats not necessarily some insulting opinion.

I would like the next two singles to be "Superhuman" and "You Got No Right."

No, you got it wrong there ( or maybe I didn't express myself good enough ) I liked STP, always did. They were indeed one of the best bands around in the 90's. That's why, when Scott joined forces with Slash and duff I thought the outcome of that would've been out of this planet, but it hasn't reach out my expectations.

As for suckertrain blues, it doesn't appeal to me at all. Then again, I may have expected way too much out of this band, but then again, I couldn't expect less from this line up.

I'll tell you from matt saying an album in early 2005 I don't think they will go for a fourth single off the album... I think three will occur then the next album will happen... They recorded 50-60 songs prior to this release, so they have material already for  a new album...

If I could chose the next single it would be between headspace n Dirty little thing..

I just want to see fall to pieces have success, it's a good tune with a very good video..
