Title: dvdr playing question Post by: Eeebs on August 12, 2004, 03:22:22 PM Okay, here is a question for all of you dvdr techno folks out there. I have a question regarding a few GnR dvdrs.
There are a two dvdrs I am unable to play... every other disc in my collection is fine, except these two... I was wondering why they don't play... is it a region problem? Does anyone know how to fix a region problem? Is it even possible? What I don't understand is that I received about 5 discs from one trader... three of them worked, but two didn't. Anyway, any input is appriciated. And for those curious, I should be getting and installing a dvdr burner sometime within the next two weeks. Yippee!! :) Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Back Off Bitch on August 12, 2004, 03:45:06 PM Hey, What dvds are they? It might be bad quality discs.... It's not a region problem but it is possible that they are in PAL format and your DVD player only works with NTSC. Some players like mine (Initial & Zenith) will play both NTSC & PAL but I have some that only do NTSC (Toshiba & Panasonic)
Eeebs, instant message me on MSN and i'll help you out Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Gunner80 on August 12, 2004, 11:13:14 PM Try updating your firmware first.
Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Eeebs on August 12, 2004, 11:25:35 PM Thanks guys for the input... the trader already copied the discs twice for me... so I am sure that the discs are okay... and guess what? My dvd player is a Toshiba... that kinda sucks then, eh? Hmmm... will I ever be able to view the discs, I mean, if they were copied by someone else? With NTSC? Or are those show gonna be non-viewable to me? Unless I use another dvd player?
Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: badapple81 on August 13, 2004, 12:46:38 AM Different players seem to react to the various DVDRs differently.
My standalone player is a brand newish JVC, wasn't cheap either. But just doesn't want to read a lot of my DVDRs. Ive noticed sometimes, even though its supposed to read both NTSC and PAL it will display the region type it is and flash, as if to say that it doesn't read that particular DVD type. But my PC DVD player will play them no problem. At the same time, there are one or two DVDRs that my PC doesnt want to read properly, that the standalone will. Technology! You can convert to NTSC but things can go wrong...
Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Eeebs on August 14, 2004, 12:46:42 AM Unfortunately, I don't have a DVD-Rom player... but I just bought a dvdr / cdr burner this afternoon :) Should be installed within the next couple of weeks... gotta trade me some GnR dvdrs real soon! Can't wait to join the dvdr trading leagues, BoB :)
Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Back Off Bitch on August 14, 2004, 10:27:21 AM DVD burner works as a DVD-Rom drive aswell. It will work on your burner as long as it has no error, etc...
Title: Re: dvdr playing question Post by: Eeebs on August 14, 2004, 01:40:49 PM Yeah!! :) Thanks for the 411, BoB. I suppose in a few weeks I will be able to watch those two dvdrs. I just need to buy some more memory before I get the burner installed... I'd like to keep The Sims game in operation :) Hehe.
