Title: Franz Ferdinand anyone?
Post by: kj_jive on August 11, 2004, 12:59:48 AM
I just picked up the Franz Ferdinand cd today after seeing the cool video for the unique single "Take Me Out".  has anyone heard this cd or this band?  I think they are fuckin great!  its a very catchy and refreshing cd.  they sound a bit like a british version of the strokes.  anyway...i think this cd is worth a listen, check it out they rock!

yeah "Take Me Out" kicks ass!
sounds a lot like the swedish band Atomic Swing from the 90s.

Its nice to see a bit of regonition from across the pond for FF.

They album is filled with loads of catchy tunes and the guys are brilliant live. I urge everyone to go and see them as they put on a great show.

I do like their single - very catchy and the singer's voice is cool.

Good to see a Scottish band doing well : ok:

They receive heavy airplay on LA's KROQ...yet I never knew it wasnt an American band!  silly me  :-[

Silly name for a band. I feel the history of rock music is bleak when bands are named after insignificant monarchs instead of sex and violence. :(

I'll give my honest opinion of them. Bland bollocks. Music with no balls. Big waste of space. As much musical presence as Kid Rock. Die. Die. Die.

ah no im gonna have to agree with chris misfit.......must fiiiiight it.....ahhhhhh.........franz ferdinand......too........crap...........hate them......ahhhhhhh god damn hell crap fuck!

i hate franz ferdinand. so boring. i dont like their two songs i've heard "take me out" and "darts of pleasure". and where did this "rock n roll you can dance to" definition come from. i'd hardly call it that. i'll accept that people like them..........but they're just not for me.

now the rolling stones........see you can dance to them. every other rock n roll band you jump up and down and wave your arms in a flap of fury while the whole crowd bounces in unison.

Van Halen is the most fun band to dance to. DAAAAAAANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!!!

I liked the single "take me out" at first....now I hate. It's so keep it simple stupid song that I can't stand it anymore. The same old riff goes on with repeat..

Crowds also bounce in unison at Linkin Park concerts... is that an indicator of talent?

If you want to compare bands, dont use the Stones as your benchmark, because most bands will fall short. The Stones have history, legend, and a zillion albums on their side.

It makes more sense to compare Franz Ferdinand to other contemporary bands in their genre such as Modest Mouse, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc.  All three bands are the 'easy listening' type.  A catchy song for the radio, a summer hit, and we'll see if anyone remembers them a year from now.

Silly name for a band. I feel the history of rock music is bleak when bands are named after insignificant monarchs instead of sex and violence. :(

You're cracking me up   I must remember to vote in your epic metal tournament.

Not every rock band has to sound like AC/DC.  I just think they're a pretty good band.  The guitar work is pretty cool too.

i never said that was an indicator of talent. i just hate this "its rock n roll you can dance to" definition that is always on this stupid franz ferdinand ad for their album. what do they think they're so good that they're gonna take back the club scene from the strangle hold of rap & rnb? IMO no they won't.

and yeah i shouldn't have used the Stones. it was just a standout example because of mick jagger's crazy dancing

give them a chance, man!

I havent seen the cd but it was probably the marketing execs who slapped that little statement on there about the dancing.

And given that they're receiving lots of attention outside their home country, it shows they have accomplished something.

Well Franz released their new album entitled "You Could Have It So Much Better.....With Franz Ferdinand" just yesterday over here. I've heard The Fallen and Do You Want To off it and it's more layered than their debut.

Anyone got it? And do you recommend?

i disagree...i saw them 6 months ago and they were fantastic in concert...in fact the concert won me over as i wasnt sure about them

Jealous of the educated? More like sick of the upper class pretending to be the working class.

im not sure what students has to do with anything...if it sounds good then to my ears its good

and green day sung about iraq and its not as if they have first hand experience of active duty in iraq eh..so therefore that would be rock singers pretending they were soldiers hmmm

upper class...i know he lead singers stayed in dennistoun in glasgow for a while...ill tell you this boy, it aint paradise...
and one of the other members in his teens was a car thief...now gladly reformed

I thought they were a total ripoff of the Hives and that there one big song was overplayed to death..

well from my ears, it sounds like the hives (and i am a fan btw) are ripping off the stones

and franz ferdinand i think are more influenced by the 80's than anything else, the fall and pixies etc and also singers like bowie and bob dylan on the new album

i just dont hear the similarities between them

I seem to remember you hated them. What swung it?

the hives are happy where they are...and will happily churn out solid albums...but i think franz ferdinand have the capability of being a great band and not a band that will churn out 12 standard rock tracks every 2 years...too many rock bands are good but not excellent

they dont obsess over violence nor sex like most rock bands...its over done, its saturated, its boring...can we move on now to something different please

just like green day are rising out of their juvenility to produce some great songs...and not to rely on the same old crap... long may that continue

their videos, albeit arty, are far superior to the mass produced crap/easily forgettable videos full of overly up-themselves pricks...too many fish in the sea and not enough whales jumping above the monotony...nothing wrong with arty, its better than watching someone smoking and looking cool for the gazillionth time

they were brilliant in concert...maybe not everyones choice but certainly not dull for a band that had only created one album...

im all for rock bands being popular, it means other bands get more of a chance to show themselves to the world...franz ferdinand will convert a lot of people to rock music...that can only be a good thing and thats another reason to support the bands that have the ability to become popular...every generation needs figureheads and for the last decade there hasnt really been any rock bands that have made an impression enough to merit it...maybe they will, maybe not...but id rather have rock popular than hip hop

oh and they are from glasgow

probably other reasons but i cant think of them just now

im sure that could also be said about mainstream american rock music

imo...if it sounds good then who cares where it came from...

On March 13th, 2007, Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy spoke exclusively to Xfm about their next album. Alex had this to say regarding the next album...

"Nick and I are writing some more tunes," Kapranos explained, "We?ve got a wee place in Glasgow where we?re doing some new songs. Its a wee bit different from last stuff but still very danceable, that?s the main thing. It?s always pop. Franz Ferdinand has always been pop."
