Title: Did you accept the new Guns when you knew all about them
Post by: Dave_Rose on August 08, 2004, 06:49:15 PM
When all the new guns n' roses sort had a full line up did you accept them at 1st or did you think how could Axl carry on with the name guns n' roses because when it take me a while to accept the guns until I heard the Maddy and The Blues and Chinese Democracy I was like  this band can play a good rock and I looked into there other projects and I thought it was great and I love the band now.

I remember hearing Oh My God for the 1st time it dont feel it 1st but it grew me and now I feel that song and I love the song because I understand a bit more and it fucking rocks.

So did you accept the new gunners at or do you still not like them?

First look of the new band was at the VMA's and when i heard Jimmy Fallon shriek "GNR!" i expected to see Slash playing WTTJ.

My shock when i saw a bald goth playing was unfathomable.

Now i have seen them play on boots etc. i have accepted them and like each member for their own personal traits much like the originals

I was bit offish about them until I watched the Leeds 02 show.

Then it was more a question of "Hurry up and release something, you guys rock!"

Were you living in a cave or something, if you didn't know about Slash's departure by the fall of 2002?

My initial exposure was RIR3, which despite some expected rough patches was overwhelming simply as a fan and promising.  Being a prior fan of Bucket, Primus and NIN had my expectation at a fever pitch (I still like the percussion in Madagascar from Rio and was disappointed to see it altered).  When I let friends watch the show, they completely dismissed the band, laughing and scoffing.  By the time Leeds come around, a few more friends were convinced.
Once MSG was obtained, even a friend of mine who considers himself a die hard purist from the Appetite era who previously
refused to even listen was heavily impressed....

I was a bit unconfortable with all mess in 1998. I learned to play guitar because of Slash... But, when I heard SCOM from Big Daddy and Oh My God in '99, I was like "wow, this guys can rock!". I really love the band now, even liked Paul Tobias, heheh.  :smoking:

What?? Tons of people didn't know about Slash leaving... it wasn't like there was some big public breakup.  I'm sure a lot of people went to the tour in 2002 that still thought Slash was in the band.

I'm only 18, but I was raised around Headbanger's Ball and MTV. For most of my life, I was a "casual" GNR fan, but the day I heard 'Oh My God', which was the day the End of Day's soundtrack came out, I was f'ing hooked. I never really had any apprehensions about anything, as long as Axl was still there. "Accepting" the band was never a problem I had...

I like the band alot. Madagascar, the blues, and chinese democracy are great tunes even on the shitty quality I have them on. However I don't "accept" them as GnR. To me personally it's Axl's solo project. I hold no grudges against new members for being new or for not being Slash as some do because I think that is dumb but the band really has no connection to what GnR was. I mean if you don't count dizzy (which I don't) it's just Axl left and even He sounds almost like a completely different singer, singing a different style of music, with a bunch of different people.

way back i heard Axl was still looking for new guys to be in GNR and then i was abit dirty towards him for doing so. Time went by and i learnt about the new guys, heard Oh My God when i was cleaning popcorn at the cinemas (i used to be an usha ;D) i was excited as " a new song, we might get an album for the mellenium, sweet!!!!!!!"

but no......... and we're still hear :-\ :(
im still excited and cant wait but no way near as much as over 6 years ago(and i still cant fuckin' beleive that one) or even yesterday, im bored as hell and this site is boring, only to me cause its been the same shit everyday for years man,
im lying but ya know what i mean......................................November

I was so desperate for something from the band that I was ready to accept anything, sad as it is to say. And while he drives me nuts, at heart I am into GNR because of Axl.

Once it became clear that the old lineup was finished, I definitely felt that Axl was capable of assembling a good group of players, basically because he was open to so many kinds of music.

When I started seeing names like Tommy Stinson, Josh Freese, Robin Fincke, Brain, Buckethead being bandied about, I figured Axl was up to something pretty interesting.

At this point it's not all the new guys that I find frustrating, it's that one original member.... he of the perpetual postponement.?

This certainly puts all of your posts into perspective...

"Accepting" the band was never a problem I had...

...Unless its the real GNR.

As for me, I accept this band for exactly what it is.

How about Booker answers the question asked in the subject instead of replying to others posts?  : ok:

No problem accepting what happened. It started in 1990.....

I welcolmed the new lineup - especially Buckethead who I was a fan of for years.  Change was good at that time - waiting for a reunion is like spinning your wheels.  I thought it was the logical thing to do - yet it did take a bit of getting used to.

I accepted the new guns n' roses right away, why because Axl's the only reason I like guns to begin with, his vocals are above neones.

I never really had a problem accepting them at all, I remmeber being so excted hearing "oh my god", just cause it was something new from GNR and Axl, AXL ROSE and NEW MATERIAL, I was pumped and celebrated  expecting something liek an album in a year, and whiel Ive always been hardcore into GNR even as wee child I had no problem accepting the new band expeacially hearing bootlegs of the new band play because i feel that they do justice to the old stuff and to a legend like slash, and allthough I still miss Slash I was always a bigger axl fan : ok:

peace  :peace:

At first I had some trouble accepting the new line-up.  It was hard to think of Guns N' Roses without guys like Slash and Duff, but when I saw the new line-up in Toronto in 2002, I warmed up to them.

Now I don't think that the band should still be called Guns N' Roses but that's another story....

Became a fan in 1994. Had no fucking idea what was going on in GN'R world. 1997 i understood it was over. 2001 i read about a show that slash was restricted from. 2002 i found the VMA and Nightrain RIR3 on kazaa. I hated it the first day. But then.. it turned over fast as hell. I have totally accepted the new band. I like changes and they have changed in the right direction i think.

I have been accepting the line-up changes that have happened from 1998 and on, when I was starting to follow the details more and more, when OH MY GOD came out and the local radio station played it and had people dissing it I tried calling but I couldnt get through. I like the song, and think it was better then most of the shit roaming around in radio land in 1999. I have accepting everything in the believe good things come to those who wait. I've been waiting a long time and now Im keep it up until that good thing comes. ie CD

I remember when I learnt Guns was to play RIR3 I was so excited to the fact Axl was back.....I didn't get to see that show until just before I saw Guns live in Toronto Canada.....But I saw Guns on t.v. at the VMA's and I was all over my room going nuts. :smoking:

it took me nearly 2 years to "accept" them (until Richard Fortus joined the band in fact). However I haven't still acccepted Buckethead and will probably never. He has nothing to do in Guns n' Roses sorry guys...
The 1st time I saw Finck with his horrible goth look I was like " GN'R is not Marylin Manson man!".
stinson was ok, good guy.
brain...I don't know why but I can't bear him. I just see him as a mercenary who is here only for the money. without heart and soul. Today he plays for Guns n' Roses, tomorow if he has a 1 million $$ paycheck he will play for the "new kids on the block"...
Richard Fortus helped me a lot to "accept" them because he has this old Guns n' Roses vibe, can't explain that, he is "rock n' roll", he has the attitude, the good vibe, neither goth nor industrial or all these ridiculous things he is just a Rock guitar player and that's what I like. Definitely my favourite "new" band member so far (stinson is not very far too).

I love the sound of the band. It has always impressed me  :o but once again BUCKETHEAD doesn't play the Guns n' Roses guitar solos as Guns n' Roses guitar solos. Someone should explain him that the goal is not to play them at 1000 miles/H but to play them with feeling. ::)
So for me: great musicians, probably great music, but not a "real" band, just a buch of talented guys add each other. just individualities, but yeah great potencial!? : ok:

It diddn`t seem like all of the sudden there was a new band since I followed the evolution of the band from when they were the original lineup to the lineup we have today, hearing about Paul coming on board, then Slash leaving, then Matt & Duff leaving, then Robin and Tommy  coming into the fold....you get the idea. I kept my eye on all the guitar / music mags for any shread of news. BAck to the subject. I completely accepted the new lineup since I was looking forward to hearing a more modern sounding GNR.

but come on dude shit or get off the pot... i'm tired of waiting

For me the Human vibe is as important as the music vibe. I do care of their attitude, their look, their feeling, their chemistry...it's part of the thing for me. I like to capt the soul of a band. It's like a football team do you see what I mean? you could have the best players in the world with amazing paychecks... but it doesn't mean it will make a good team because the human factor is absolutely essential.

Yes I did. I wanted to see this band grow. I love what they have brought in.
I wasn't really hooked til I saw rock in rio. Then I went to the joint shows. I was blown away. I will never ?? why Axl got these guys. To me its easy to see. Can't wait to see them again. And hope to see some of you there too!!!

I think it's more difficult for an "old" fan to accept them because of the past. the new fans will be totally ok in my opinion. I do think the album "chinese democracy" will be a fantastic success and will bring lots of new fans.
I always try to be optimistic.
