Title: Just 5 Weeks in Europe?
Post by: St.heathen on August 06, 2004, 08:53:44 AM
To be fair i realise the U.S is a huge market and their home soil, so you can understand them playing more gigs there than anywhere else.

But apart from fans that know already,  Contraband seems to be a little
bit of a missed opportunity.  I mean There's a huge GNR market in the UK and Europe.
And  they should have tapped into that and done more to promote Contraband and  Slither.

That first week Contrband was released they could have done their bit promote it then go back and do some live dates. It wasn't far off the top spot without it, but with it im sure it would have got there.  I hope they have plans to return because 3 dates in the UK is rubbish, especially the way it was set up with crappy Carling. And it's Slash's birthplace you would think he would be keen to gain momentum with an audience here.

It is rather pathetic - for gawds sake how many bands manage to tour every city in the country? Maybe they will return in force and these shows are just to tide people over?

My guess is that when you have a lead singer who has problems with the law etc, it's not easy to plan/book tours abroad just like that. There's court appearances, rehab visits, drug tests, meetings etc to be taken care of.

Jarmo's got a good point, legal issues abound with Scott and the logistics of it all could be almost unmanageable.

It does in fact suck for fans outside of the US but it's hard to argue anything strategically done so far by VR and Co., they've been pretty much on the money in their presentation of the band in all facets..

In today's Daily Star Sunday in the UK they were praising their success here even though they have done little promotion here's what it said:

Hats off to Velvet Revolver.? The rockers have shipped a staggering 100,000 copies of their new album Contraband in the UK in five weeks.? This was done with no gigs, no major radio and no major TV.? Watch out for their new single, Fall To Pieces, in September and gigs before them.? Their success isn't entirely based on having Guns 'n' Roses axeman Slash in the band of course.

Relax, their first tour in the states wasn't very long either. This is a slow growing thing and it seems to be Slithering along at a steady pace. Relax and tehy will be back in Europe for you.
