Title: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: RichardNixon on August 03, 2004, 09:04:11 AM Here are the ones that I can think off:
"Zero the Hero" by Black Sabbath has a similar riff to "Paradise City." The liner notes of the "Born Again" album point that out. A cool and underrated album, btw. The end of "Dropin like flies" from Motley Crue's self-titled 1994 album has the exact same riff as the main riff in "Locomotive." Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: GNROSAS on August 03, 2004, 02:52:08 PM Unfortunately Bad obsessions starting/main riff is very very similar to one of the talking head's songs.
It seems GNR stole it from them. :-[ Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on August 03, 2004, 05:32:42 PM the darkness kinda ripped off the opening riff to cd
Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: jrs2001_99 on August 03, 2004, 05:43:40 PM the darkness kinda ripped off the opening riff to cd Any song in particular? I'm curious.... I'm a huge Darkness fan, but aside from some of the soloing by Justin sounding similar to something Slash might play, I don't really notice any similarities between them and GNR, old or new? :-\As an aside, the verse riff to Bad Apples sounds quite similar to some of the riffage in Zeppelin's Black Dog, albeit at a completely different tempo. Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: ClintroN on August 03, 2004, 06:09:05 PM Chinese Democracy main riff is the same as Hey Man Nice Shot from Filter

Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: Evil Ash on August 04, 2004, 08:19:39 AM The beginning of "lifestyles of the rich and famous" from Good Charlotte sounds just like the beginning of shotgun blues, doesn't anyone agree??
Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: Dave_Rose on August 04, 2004, 12:28:35 PM Yeah agree with the person who said Chinese Democracy opening riff is very similar to The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love, I played Chinese Democracy to a friend of mine he is a big Darkness fan and he said that sounds like I Believe In A Thing Called Love, I said no dont you mean The Darkness sounds like Guns there.

The liner notes of the "Born Again" album point that out. A cool and underrated album, btw. Um...Born Again was released in 1983...So that would be a Sabbath riff in a GN'R song. Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: dont_damn_me on August 04, 2004, 05:22:48 PM i was listening to the radio and this song called "American Hair Band" by a band called 'Tuff' came on and it was awsome how they put down grunge and bashed kid rock and stuff while they mentioned all the 80's bands.. and in one part it went something like "I want Axl, GnR, and I want SLASH!! *scom intro solo*" A punk band called Deisel Boy have a tune about metal music and the bridge goes..."Give me glam rock..give me thrash....give me Axl......give me Slash!! Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: Mama Kin on August 04, 2004, 10:55:12 PM I always thought parts of Brownstone sounded like Walk This Way by Aerosmith.
Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: Beholder on August 05, 2004, 08:05:04 AM the Slither's mid solo looks like the solo in the spoken part of Breakdown...
anyone else noticed or i am going crazy? Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: GnR_Kel_UK on August 05, 2004, 08:08:13 PM I always thought parts of Brownstone sounded like Walk This Way by Aerosmith. Yeah, me too. Also the bass intro for It's So Easy is so similar to Liar by The Sex Pistols. Title: Re: GN'R riffs in other bands songs Post by: RichardNixon on August 08, 2004, 04:15:14 PM I might get banned for saying this... :nervous: but... I kinda think "The Blues" sounds a bit like Warrant's "I Saw Red."
