Title: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: nesquick on July 29, 2004, 04:34:04 PM I just want to ask you something: where you live, what is the popularity status of Guns n' Roses? pretty popular? very popular? unpopular? do you see a lot of people around you who listen to Guns n' Roses? or just a few?
Do you feel that something has changed thanks to the "greatest hits" album? do you see more people (especially new kids) who are now interested in Guns n' Roses? or not? Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: ShotgunBlues1978 on July 29, 2004, 04:38:40 PM They're still popular with people in my age bracket. I don't know about others, but I know a lot of people my age who still like to listen to GnR once in a while even if they aren't diehard fans.
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Naupis on July 29, 2004, 04:40:05 PM Guns N' Roses is really popular.......New GNR hasn't even been born yet so that is really hard to gage. All of the popularity they have currently is a result of a band that doesn't currently exist. We are going to have to wait until New GNR actually releases an album to gauge this line-ups popularity.
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: slave2thegrind on July 29, 2004, 04:44:23 PM I know that in high school and university everybody loves GNR...regardless of whether they're into rock or not, I've noticed that alot of people have at least one GNR song that they love. I'd say that they're pretty popular, even before their Greatest Hits album was released.

Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Dave_Rose on July 29, 2004, 05:01:15 PM GN'R are popular where I live and a lot of young people I know like them and the new album isn't even out yet!
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on July 29, 2004, 05:07:00 PM Just look at the BTM ratings and the GHs sales.
IT proves they are still popular. Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Axl_owns_dexter on July 29, 2004, 05:28:42 PM They aren't a lot of people's absolute favorite. But they certainly are respected for being a good rock band.
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: The Estranged MrFlashbax on July 29, 2004, 05:49:01 PM most kids in my school dont like gnr.. last time i asked a person why they dont like gnr, here's what she said:
"i cant stand guns n roses because axl's tantrum ruined the gnr/metallica concert.. and did you see what axl looked like at the vma's?" ::) Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: nesquick on July 29, 2004, 06:12:33 PM well I have always said that the look is probably one of? the most important thing in the music industry. That's why I think Buckethead's departure is an exellent thing for the image of the band. Ok He is talented, but he he is totally scary and not attractive. He is not "Rock n' Roll" and I think the new band suffers pretty much of that weird image. It's important for the kids.

What are/were the ratings of the Behind the Music program? I've been lookin' everywhere for those fuckers.IT proves they are still popular. Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: jarmo on July 29, 2004, 09:51:20 PM well I have always said that the look is probably one of? the most important thing in the music industry. Too bad you're not the only one who thinks that. People sell records based on their looks and how good they can dance.? Seems like somebody's buying all those Greatest Hits copies out in the stores. I don't think it's just the "old" fans from the 80s/90s. Same thing with Appetite, it's still selling. /jarmo Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: HoldenCaulfield on July 29, 2004, 10:12:18 PM Well, GNR is one of the best selling rock bands of the year, believe it or not. I live in a small town, but there are still quite a few fans in this area, especially the employees at Hot Topic :hihi:
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Mr Cowbell ? on July 30, 2004, 12:57:20 AM I'm 22 and my friends and I still love the GnR our local Pure Rock station WKLQ 94.5 and I would say I hear GnR daily when I listen for atleast 90 minutes. I think they are more popular now because they still have legions of fans and with the GH's and how retro things are coming back I think new people are being exposed to GnR and liking the music. I think BTM, VR, and the Greatest Hits has only helped it grow
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Speedy0587 on July 30, 2004, 01:05:16 AM Im only 17 and tons of my high school friends love Guns N' Roses. I recently got a couple of my close friends really into them and we might play So Fine and/or Patience with our band. So im pumped. ;D. One problem I see allot is my friends don't really like the new version of GNR. They say without Slash and Duff there isnt really a GNR. I even show them clips of Buckethead, Finck, and Fortus playing the heck out of the old songs but they still doubt the new version of GNR. When Chinese Democracy comes out Im sure theyll all see just how good the new lineup is. : ok:
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Fuckin' Gunner on July 30, 2004, 04:33:42 AM Lots of people loves GNR, but there's a lot of people that hates them too.
And I know some people that just say that was good, but don't even know that there's a new band or something. Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Skeletor on July 30, 2004, 04:42:04 AM Around my circle of friends + the people I know, GNR is well liked, and even those who aren't particular fans don't see the band in a negative light. I've never heard anyone saying stuff like "Axl looks fat" and what have you, but then again I don't hang out with dolts.
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: matt88 on July 30, 2004, 06:10:38 AM They aren't popular for people my age(teens) where i am, but on a plus a couple of years ago when i got into GN'R i turned my whole group of friends on to them : ok:
Thats 14 more copies of AFD sold 2 u n me 8) Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: bolton on July 30, 2004, 12:15:46 PM in my age and my country(24,serbia) guns n roses are realy popular and legendary band,in fact gnr is the most popular rnr band here.
Yes many people hate gne,but whoare they people -(iron maiden(or some band like iron maiden) fans! Why? Because gnr 1988 had tour with iron maiden, and iron maiden was a first band, but that were gnr tour(because the most people came to see guns n roses) - nirvana fans! why? Because gnr had different style, and were much much bigger than nirvana(nirvana was mtv band, but gnr were realy popular band with great tour, great selling...) -People who don't like rnr Why? -Because they are i n bad mood Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: Darloboy on July 30, 2004, 07:03:51 PM I'm 15 and a lot of my friends like Guns N' Roses, but then again a lot of my friends like 'old' rock music. Most of my friends know nothing about nu-GnR
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: noizzynofuture on July 31, 2004, 08:41:01 PM I think their popularity is growing this year.
Not that this confirms it, but I just saw an 18 year old wearing a UYI t shirt yesterday - almost shit. Now good time to release Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: The Estranged MrFlashbax on July 31, 2004, 09:44:33 PM i never ever listen to the radio but today i had to go to someone's house and a store and forgot to bring my cds along.. i on the way to the person's house i heard Civil War and on the way back from the store on the same station (a 20-25 min gap tops) i heard Used to love her.. so they're still getting really good air time.. so i wouldnt be surprised if alot of people are into gnr..
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: ktucker450 on July 31, 2004, 10:53:07 PM Well I am 16, and EVERYBODY besides the little gangster wanna be-rap fagits loved Guns N' Roses here, The new album will sell like fucking crazy and they are still so amazingly popular here in Vancouver, EVEN after the Riot everyone i know is pumped to go back if they come back lol. : ok:
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: RichardNixon on July 31, 2004, 11:10:19 PM Boston has been shitty to GN'R. WAAF, and the Boston Globe seem to be outta get Axl.
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: SunKing278 on August 01, 2004, 02:58:05 AM Boston has been shitty to GN'R. WAAF, and the Boston Globe seem to be outta get Axl. WAAF, however, also plays tons of Guns N' Roses, as does WBCN. In fact, they are now getting at least equal airtime with Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Metallica, et al, which hasn't been the case for years. 'BCN never played them until sometime in the last year or so, but now they're on probably once every hour or two. And that's not to mention the massive airplay for Velvet Revolver. On another Boston-related note, the opening chords to "Welcome to the Jungle" have been played during kickoffs at Gillette Stadium (and Foxboro Stadium before it) for years now. GNR are more popular now than they have been for at least 10 years. Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: gnr1967 on August 02, 2004, 03:27:20 AM I agree that GNR's popularity has grown recently, but most people I talk to think GNR is ancient history. :( I seem to be one of only a few who still seem to talk about them. I'm just hoping that one day GNR will be even more relevant - but who knows, right? Maybe when Chinese Democracy comes out some of these idiots will see that GNR MADE history. :)
Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: MadmanDan on August 02, 2004, 05:07:01 PM You lucky bastards!! People have no taste in my country.
I bet that if I ask 100 people on the street(and I don't mean 70 year old grandmas), 90 of them will say they have never heard about GNR an 10 will say: "yeah, man, are they back? I can't wait to see Slash again" Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: ClintroN on August 02, 2004, 09:08:46 PM I know heeps of people who are into em', alot are the old school fans who have seen em' too.
But most of them only know of the new GNR from MTV O2' and thats it!!!, and they were pissed off about THAT GUY WITH THE KFC BOX n' THAT FUCKIN' FREAK ON GUITAR n' WERE THE FUCK IS SLASH shit. I fully had enough of tellin' people that CHI-DEM's coming 'cause they say i've been sayin' that shit for years now and its never gonna come out!! But besides that, the name and music of Gunes N' Roses is still very popular around here, but it's cool when you get to tell someone about it who has no idea about whats going on and they start going fuckin' crazy after you show em' a few new songs n' bootlegs  : ok:...............GNR's ALIVE they scream :hihi:, just doin' my part for GNR popularity status this year the year before n' before that n' that n' next year until it fuckin' comes out :crying: Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: TyRod Tulip on August 02, 2004, 09:28:41 PM Boston has been shitty to GN'R. WAAF, and the Boston Globe seem to be outta get Axl. You couldn't be more wrong. I listen to WAAF and WBCN everyday. Each of those radio stations has GNR on pretty heavy rotation. Both stations play the entire AFD album as well. I hear My Michelle and Rocket Queen on WBCN sometimes. I would say that as far as regions go, Boston has a lot more GNR fans than other parts of the USA. No offense dude, but I have no idea where you are coming from with that. -------------- I will say this those. Even though GNR has a ton of fans still, the nuGNR has almost no fans whatsoever. If you leave the people on the internet GNR boards out of it, then the nuGNR has zero fans really./ They will need to make it on their own merit. -TyRod- Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? I was there, the crowd loved it and was horse from shouting. Then the next day, I couldn't believe my ears, WAAF was tearing it apart and had listeneners on the air who said the show sucked, and they didn't let anyone with a positive comment go on the air. I gues the Djs are too busy kissing Staind and Godsmacks ass... And the Boston Globe hates Axl. Steve Morse (Rock Notes) and Renne Grahm (Life In The Pop Lane) have it in for him Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: TyRod Tulip on August 03, 2004, 10:22:15 AM I was at that show too, and it was a very good show. I did hear the negative stuff the following day on WAAF as well, and I read in the globe where they got a pretty bad review. Keep in mind that the review was negative because the writer thought that a band of hired guns playing mostly AFD songs without even a single released was a joke (and he/she was completely right about that).
That's what I was getting at in my post. The popularity of old-GNR is still huge. nuGNR is regarded by almost every person inside or outside of the music industry as a complete and utter fucking joke at this point. They will have to make it on there own. -TyRod- Title: Re: GN'R popularity Status in 2004? Post by: HoldenCaulfield on August 03, 2004, 08:41:37 PM Tyrod, it's obvious that nu-GNR has very, very few fans: 99% of the general populations have never even seen them, much less heard them. That will obviously change when the album comes out...
