Title: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on July 29, 2004, 03:35:32 PM I was talking with the guy over at the "rumor board" and asked him about the VMAs, he said he will do some digging.
Maybe Mysteron can look into this to. The VMAs are on sunday August 29 and Neither Tommy nor Dizzy have a solo date planned for that day. We know the rumored month for CD to be released is Nov or early Dec, so do you think Axl could kick off the VMAs with the new single to get things started and the hype started for the album? Lets hope they play the VMAs, any thoughts? Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: minto on July 29, 2004, 03:43:24 PM I'd be suprised but you never know
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: pilferk on July 29, 2004, 03:44:54 PM Nope.
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: NickNasty on July 29, 2004, 03:48:32 PM Doubt it. That may a one-trick pony that you can only pull once. Dizzy and Toomy may not be playing then, nut they sure as hell will be right in the thick of touring, and probably aren't going to scrap everything just for the VMA's ( I don't think Axl would ask them to). It's a nice thought, but I don't think it's plausible. A commerical or promo for CD may happen, IMO.
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on July 29, 2004, 03:50:41 PM How would they scrap anything to play the VMAs? Its just one nite and its an off nite for both of them.? So neither dizzy nor tommy would have to cancel any show. If im not mistaken mtv wanted gnr back last year too but Axl turned it down.
I am sure MTV has contacted gnrs management about doing this years since they know the album is coming out soon. Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: AdZ on July 29, 2004, 03:53:54 PM Well, which city are the shows that dizzy and tommy will be coming to the vmas in? and which cities will they each be playing next?
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: Naupis on July 29, 2004, 03:59:58 PM No way. MTV will not trot them back out there until they have some kind of music out that is popular and would dictate doing so. The whole shock value with no product thing has been done already.....so I wouldn't count on seeing them again. Also, they will never be able to recapture the magic of 2002 anyway, so MTV is not going to put them out there until there is reason to. 2002 was done as there had been tremendous curiosity as to what Axl had assembled, now people have seen it and are just waiting....which to many people has worn thin, so I don't think we'll be seeing that again.
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: nesquick on July 29, 2004, 04:02:10 PM It's highely unlikely that GN'R play the VMA this year in my opinion. I just don't "feel it". It's too soon, guys, the VMA is only in 1 month! It's too soon for the band. and what will they play? jungle? paradise city? and madagascar? once again? come on...
Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: dave-gnfnr2k on July 29, 2004, 04:05:53 PM The band could play the first single of just play chinese democracy the title track of the album.
And its not too early since last time they played it was on a weeks notice. As for the VMAs its in FL and i think tommy and dizzy are playing in CA. But its only a plane ride there and back. Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: NickNasty on July 29, 2004, 04:07:10 PM How would they scrap anything to play the VMAs? Its just one nite and its an off nite for both of them. I am sure MTV has contacted gnrs management about doing this years since they know the album is coming out soon. I see your point, but again there is the question of rehearsal time (which there would be little of). Last time, the VMA thing was bookended between the Eurasia and US mini tours, so the group had some time playing significant live gigs together. The other thing is, why would Axl do it unless Chinese Democracy is ready ? I ddon't think he will make the mistake he did last time of going live without a product in tow....again, the VMA's could play some part in the GNR promotion machine if something is ready, I just don't see a live performance (hope I'm wrong). Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: MadmanDan on July 29, 2004, 04:07:59 PM I really don't think GNR will play the VMAs this year. And if they do,they definetly won't be a surprise, like two years ago. That would be stupid.People will say:"Oh,it's these guys again. What, they can only play at the VMA's?" VR are very possible performers, though.

Im with Pilferk here, look VR right now is the i"t" rock band of the moment and think about it VR just filmed this past weekend the video for the next single fall to peices so it kind of makes more sense as they could use vmas to play the new song and slither if they wanted to while GNR all we have is a rumored November released date and no new material so to me it would make more sense to see VR on the VMAs then GNR all though I would love to see GNR on it with Axl kickin the ass of all those crappy musicians at the VMA (sorry not a big fan of most MTV music) later peace :peace: Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? I say NO! I hope with all my soul that it will....but I just can't see it happening!(if it happened id would be the greatest thing ever though). but......well, I can'e see it ever coming out. fuck GN'R; I have John fuckin' Frusciante, the biggest musical genious walking this planet as my musical saviour these days. that man is truly a genious, I wish Axl would collaborate with him on something, but I can't see that happening, I don't think Axl would dare to do it. How about the New GN'R makes a music video before you start talking about them being on the show again. The last time was a "suprise performance" type of deal. Why would they have the same band back for the VMAs when they don't even have any music videos? Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: Slashisthebest on August 01, 2004, 05:15:13 PM No way. Dude, MTV put GNR on in 2002 they had no clue what Axl was going to play. I think that MTV will be happy to help bring back the greatest hard rock band of all time. No matter what MTV will be a part of some publicity stunt to help GNR. I dont think that they will play the VMA's. It would be too early for GNR to release a new single for a november/december album. I think that it would be awesome though if Velvet Revolver played at the VMA's. Slashisthebest Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Title: Re: Will Gnr play the VMAs this year? Post by: providman on August 02, 2004, 01:41:57 PM IF gnr appeared on the VMAs it would be huge once again and it would dwarf any appearance by VR. That's right Dave, if GnR did this,? ?if GnR did that....., blah blah blah blah blah, you've been saing this same shit for years now. And its all true. Gnr played the VMAs a few years ago and it was HUGE. So what do you have to say about that? I'd say you're , as usual, living in the world of fantasy & make-believe. |
