Here Today... Gone To Hell!

I was watching behind the music yesterday just thinking...."Man..how cool with this be if Axl had participated?" Like always though, he has to just say no and continue to sit in the house. Now that is one less available media tool he is going to be able to use. I thought a BTM in which Axl participated would be a great way to help introduce the new album, lineup and material to the public. Nope. That would make too much sense. Now we are left with this November release date that everyone is going to hang their hat on for months with no confirmation from Axl. I just wish he would come out and play nice at some point. The BTM would have been a great time to show his face again.

the biggest wasted opportunity was just after the VMA '02. Even if his voice was bad, The band sounded great and the IMPACT on the moment was phenomenal. Look at Jimmy Falcon's reaction, people were happy to see him! You can clearly see it on their face during the VMA'02 people were just like "yeah! Axl is back! that's great!". The fact that Axl was here right there was much more important than his voice's problem. The album should have been released in the fall of the VMA and it would have reached Number 1 easily with incredible record sales. But well...that's already the past. Axl is Axl, sometimes he makes stupid mistakes than even a kid wouldn't do... ::)

I agree that not releasing the record after the VMA's was ridiculous as they will never get a chance to re-create that sort of buzz again as they had been out of the public eye for about 10 years. That being said, I just thought something like a BTM would be a great marketing tool to help promote an album when it comes out.....now count that out along with a slot on the VMA's to promote an album. Leave it to Axl to squander big media opportuinitys like that. I just hope what ever he chooses this time to get this thing off the ground, he comes ready to perform so we don't have another mishap like the VMA's.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Do you really think Axl is just going to have vh1 announce it and then him not say anything?

There will be a huge press release when the date is set in stone. And guess what? There will be a promotional blitz like you have never seen. You will get plenty of Axl and the band about a month -2 months before the release date.

Axl is not just going to announce a release date and thats it. Its going to be a lil more than that.

I doubt there will be any "blitz".  I would love it if the release date were true, time will tell, but you won't see Axl on an interview tour.  Frankly, I think he should keep the recluse thing going, it adds to his mystique in a way that nothing else will.  

When I meant blitz I meant the band as a whole, not just Axl. I doubt Axl will go do a thousand interviews. e wont. But there will be some sort of big official mtv related interview with Axl and the band.

As for the blitz...it will basically be liek what vr did. Band members will go and do interviews liek they did on the 2002 tour. this time they will be discussing the album etc....

Due to slash in company sueing Axl again I think that was one of many reason for him not to do it. Although It would been cool to see him on it.

As far as wasted opportunity in my opinon it really hasn't been wasted Yeah there was some high points in last couple of years that should have been captured but it didn't happen. Plus with rumors running high it just hypes the awaited record even more. Until Axl decides that he's ready then opprtunities will be open again.

No I think BTM painted Axl to look like a lunatic. They would cut his interview into parts that would promote their story more. I think the only good thing that BTM will do is help give GH's a second "lil" push

At the time i thought you were right about missing the VMA buzz, but not now.

I posted this before in another thread, but now is the time.

Greatest hits, VR and BTM have made GNR more popular now than they have been in the past 10 years.  The VMA's would have been a nice launching point but it was a moment. All the publicity going on is a wave and now would be the time to move quickly.

I don't think GNR will have a better time to release CD than in the next 6 months while there's still time to ride the wave.

If Axl misses this opportunity, i think he's very much lost his mind.

Is it a wasted oppurtunity if you know going IN that the editors may be trying to frame a story against you? I know previous artists who have been on BTMs (including AC/DC , Poison) have complained about the end results of the shows. If Axl had done this and it had still come out making him look like an ass, what would we say? And, as brought up previously, anything this guy says about the band's breakup can and will be used against him in a court of law. Anyway, depending on how things turn out in the rumor mill, VH1 may have still gotten the jump on Axl by preemptively exposing the slated release month for CD! Time will tell....but the fact is, Axl needs to do nothing to jumpstart the hype around this record when it finally comes out. To paraphrase another poster, the silence only adds to the myth and curiosity of this project- for good or ill.
