Title: Kerrang Most Powerful People in Rock
Post by: Mutherfunker on June 30, 2004, 02:31:48 PM
Leading on from that 'most powerful people in music' list by Q magazine, Kerrang have compiled a 'most important people in rock' list. Here's the top 20:

1 Sharon Osbourne
2 Satan ( ;D)
3 Brian Becker (CEO Clear Channel)
4 Justin Hawkins
5 Rick Rubin
6 Michael Moore
7 Kurt Cobain
8 Rod Smallwood (Sanctuary Group)
9 Lars Ulrich
10 Avril Lavigne (wtf?)
11 Tim Armstrong
12 Dave Grohl
13 Axl Rose
14 Steve Jobs (Head of Apple)
15 Jack Black
16 Rob Cross (WXRK radio Operations Manager)
17 Ozzy Osbourne
18 Tim Burton
19 Ian Mackaye
20 Peter Mensch (Q-Prime management)

Axl at 13 eh? Here's what they had to say about Mr. Rose:

This Crabby Hermit Refuse To Leave It's Shell
Imagine if Thierry Henry decided to sack all his team mates, recruit a load more and tell everyone it was still Arsenal FC. That's pretty much what Axl did with Guns N' Roses, but having aquired all the rights to the name, there was no-one to tell him he couldn't. In his own, insular world Axl is King and if he wants to sit on his 'Chinese Democracy' for another 10 years then he bloody well will.

Leading on from that 'most powerful people in music' list by Q magazine, Kerrang have compiled a 'most important people in rock' list. Here's the top 20:

1 Sharon Osbourne (all she does is whore out her family)
2 Satan ( He should be #1)
3 Brian Becker (CEO Clear Channel)
4 Justin Hawkins
5 Rick Rubin
6 Michael Moore (The fat guy from 9/11?)
7 Kurt Cobain
8 Rod Smallwood (Sanctuary Group)
9 Lars Ulrich (My god this bastard is worried about a few bucks lost from napster.  I can think of two more powerful people then him that are in Metallica.
10 Avril Lavigne (wtf?, WTF indeed, FUCK Skater Bois,)
11 Tim Armstrong
12 Dave Grohl (I love the foo fighters but I believe someone like Maynard James Keenan belongs here)
13 Axl Rose
14 Steve Jobs (Head of Apple)
15 Jack Black (SOMEONE PLEEEASE Shoot me, He wasnt a good or funny actor in School of rock and his Ten. D CD had 5 songs out of 15 tracks.

This is why all TOP whatever lists suck. They let people pick them and people pick who is HOT or the FLAVOR of the month.   COME ON in 2 years do you think Avril will be #1? I think you need to look at the big picture.

Well, they did justify their selections (it wasn't done by vote). Here's why they had Avril in there:

Apply Pop Principals to Create Instant Rock Star
'My Giddy Aunt, not that bint,' we hear you cry. But consider this: Lavigne is the first totally manufactured rock star from the same school of teen marketing that launched Britney et al. Like her or loathe her, the gal's set a precedent and she's also had the responsibility of producing five-and-ups from the path of pop and into the road marked 'rock'. The next generation of punks freaks and metalheads has to come from somewhere you know. And if you're still in any doubt over her influence just go to a pop punk show and see what the girls are wearing. See?

I think that reasoning is kind of week. I think Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) is more influencal then her.  By the way was Michael Moore on the list the fat guy who made Farenheight 9/11 or am I on the wrong page?

Kurt:

They Don't Get More Iconic then This
What power can a dead man have? Possiblt more than if he were alive. Strung out on crack, Kurt may well have just jacked all his talent away. This way he went out on an artistic high - forever preserved in a state that allowed him to be deified and held up as a posthumous spokesman for Generation X. It's a decade since Kurt and Nirvana's demise, but their influence and resonance can still be clearly felt.

Maynard James Keenan came in at 70

P.S. Yes it's that Michael Moore (for being a rebel apparently)

70? Maynard is the frontman to two of the most influencal rock groups in the last 15 years. Is it just me or is that wrong?

15 would take you to 1990.  In term's of album sales alone there's a lot of people who've topped Tool and APC.

Steve Jobs is the CEO of Apple and the man responsible for the iPod. According to Kerrang he has affected the course of the entire music industry. With iTunes store and the change to digital music, CDs are on their way out.
