Title: So Yesterday, I Stopped To Get Some Gas On My Way Home, And Talked To This Dude>
Post by: Buddha_Master on June 29, 2004, 01:22:41 PM
wearing a GNR shirt from the Get In The Ring Tour and talking to the guy at the register. He was like a ruff lookin dude, still with the long hair and fu man chu. Total throw back.

I was coming back from work, wearing my nice work clothes. I thought I should say something seeings that I never see anyone these days wearing a GNR shirt, so I said something like "Nice shirt dude." He gave me a weird look, like either I was makin fun, or that I was some fuckin square or something I don't know.

The guy at register said something about my taste, but it was evident they were talking about GNR. Strange thing to walk into, as this never happens these days, and me bein me and walkin into this was odd.

So I asked the dude how he was handling the wait for Chinese D?

He turned to me and said "Chinese Democracy is going to come out."

I said "Yea I got hope too."

He said something about at least having Velvet Revolver to hold him over. I said thats cool, but it wasn't quite cutting it for me, and isnt filling the void.

He said again, "Chinese Democracy is going to come out."

He actually started lookin a little uncomfortable. I wasn't sure what to say, so I said something about how I hoped Buckethead's work was still going to be on the album.

Then the dude said (with a louder voice), "Chinese Democracy is going to come out."

(In my head)

(what the fuck?! Man some Guns fans are fucking strange.)

So I replied "yea"...looked at the guy at the register and said, "Uh 5 dollars on number 7."

Do we really need any threads that are on here? There is no news now to talk about, unless you know something your not telling us.

This is GNR related, and it was just a funny thing that happened yesterday.

Who else am I going to share this with that would appreciate it?

Personally, I think what happened to Buddha_Master is really cool, because it's so surreal.  It seems like something out of an art film...in the course of his travels, Buddha encountered a prophet of sorts, or at least a messenger.  This guy just says over and over, "Chinese Democracy is going to come out."  It may seem pointless, but the fact is that this is the one thing that unites all of us GN'R fans and keeps us coming to this board - the belief that Chinese Democracy WILL come out.  This thread is what being a Guns N' Roses fan these days is all about - unwavering faith in Axl despite all hardship and evidence to the contrary.  It's kinda like a religious experience, only with rock 'n' roll.

Where do you live that that even fills a thimble?

(Yes, I know prices are dropping...;))

That's cool and surprising most people i talk to are clueless they only know stuff because i tell them.  Whenever i find a fan of GN'R stuff i generally get responses such as 'It's a shame they broke up' and im like WTF? when? and others who still think Slash is in i was talking to this guy a few weeks back saying so you like GN'R then and he's like yeah i love them so i told him how i saw them at leeds festival a couple years ago and he was like wow then he asked how Slash was once again i was like WTF? errr... dude he left.....the response was what? when? I've found this occurs with all GN'R fans i encounter they have no idea they know the past and either think they have split or are still together and just well doing jack shit i thought the fact Velvet Revolver are around might have been a big give away Slash has left but i guess people may also think it means the band has split.  Anywayz thought id share that with you since it's kinda like a story thread sorry if it's a bit dis-jointed, im feeling that way at the mo :smoking:

I was in a public restroom once wearing my AFD t shirt, and some dude stopped me and said "nice shirt!  I haven't seen one of those in awhile.  I saw them 14 times in 1991."

14 times in one year?  Whoa.   :o

All the really kooky GNR fans have been out lately.  On Friday afternoon I was at River Walk in Ft. Lauderdale, had a  late lunch at Dan Marino's and as we were coming down the stairs this crazy looking homeless woman was roaming around in a GNR 2002 tour t-shirt, muttering to herself.
I thought to myself, A. Never saw a homeless person at Riverwalk before.  B.  Tour got cancelled the week before they were supposed to come down here(damn you CC!).  How'd she get the shirt?  Strange indeed.

Amen Mattman. Summed up most of what I was thinking.

I think this is a really cool story. I wear my GNR shirts religiously, I practically live in them. I get comments on them here and there, something to the effect of "nice shirt". The best comment I ever remember was I was walking in the mall, and I see this biker looking guy with his son, and he excitely says to his dad," Wow, cool dad look, that girl's wearing a Guns N' Roses t-shirt". He was animate about his dad seeing I was wearing it, and this kid was no more than 8 years old. It made me smile.

I think the worst response I got that was GNR related, I have Axl's rose tattoo on my arm. About a week after I got it, I went to the mall, and went into a clothing store. It was a sort of trendy store. The saleswoman saw my tattoo, and was like "wow". She started asking me about it, so I walked closer to show it to her. She saw the name banner, and was like Oh, my god, Axl Rose? Why would you do that?!" She was really rude about it, and pretty much disgusted. I just looked her straight in the face, and told her I had looked up to him all of my life, and couldn't think of a better way to honor him. I then proceeded to walk out of the store, and I could hear her behind me commenting on what a horrible thing I had done. Thankfully, that's the worst response I've ever gotten. But I rarely run into GNR fans anymore.

I wear my GNR shirt every two weeks and I know what people mean. They are like yeah they are cool. WHat are they up to?

PS I hate hot topic and the shirts they sell there. It used to take a lot for a hardcore fan to find or get a shirt, not hot topic pounds them out and the wannabees wear them around. I see a guy at local concert with the shirt and I was like "Yeah Axl's the Man" and the guy was like What? and I said Axl Rose..... You know singer of GnR and he was like yeah. What kind of idiot can wear a GnR shirt and not know who Axl is?

Yea I got a whole new respect for Mattman with his response here. Really fucking trippy.

It has made me think. So many of us are so different from each other. Some of us are married, some are rich, some are black, and some are white. But whatever we are, we have this one really cool unique thing that binds us all together.

Its not even something that is pc anymore, or the "cool thing" today. Its something that made us a fan, and we crave to see how this story will unfold. We haven't forgotten about what great music is, and how it moves us.

And we continue to wait for the one thing that makes this crazy fucking trip of being a Guns N' Roses fan worth it.

[its been cool reading your stories too.]

I dont understand why someone would pick on someone with a GNR shirt. We all know Axl is sorta Crazy. Would you pick on someone with a charles manson shirt? I think you need to pick on the little string faggets with a Linkin Park TV.

shouldve smacked that fucker

the only bitch i got with GNR is ive always been against gimmicks to me if u have talent u dont need a gimmick

bucket head dont need to do what he does, i mean he was in GNR , he dont need a stupid gimmick same with robin

i always related  gimmicks to bands that have no talent but robin and bucket do so my theory is shot, i just hate gimmicks! let the music do the talkin!

What do bucket and robin do as gimmicks?

Buckethead has always been buckethead. since day 1. He has always let the music do the talking. HEs not even a pop icon or really in the mainstream so how is his "gear" a gimmick? Its his way of expression...

and im completely lost about the robin gimmick? Whats his gimmick?

Title: Re:So Yesterday, I Stopped To Get Some Gas On My Way Home, And Talked To This Du

people cant appreciate buckets talents cause they cant get past his gimmick

u really think he was raised by chickens younggunner?

i compare him to Prince when prince changed his name to the symbol, he released some of his greatest works ever but no one listened to it cause they couldnt get past his name change

same with bucket, reason the people that dont take him seriously dont is because of his ridiculous gimmick

robin's whole goth, freaky hairstyle and all that may not be a gimmick but he looks like one of the dudes in that group "orgy" guys ive always dug like richie sambora, slash people like that are real guys, just them and a guitar and kick ass music

Im surprised someone like you would say something ignorant liek that. HOw is buckethead or robin not being "real". What you really mean is that to "D' they arent cool. BUt D theres other people in this world who think bucket and robin are cool and their music kicks ass.

As for robin musically, we dont know much about. We dont have much to go on. I am eager to hear what he brings to the band. He is part of the backbone of the band and has been in this band for almost 7 yrs now. This is the first time he will have a full hands on paretcipation regarding material in a band. SO i cant wait to see what he can bring....

You've got to laugh, we all see people wearing GNR t-shirts and iether nod, or say "cool t-shirt" or something?  I was walking home a couple of weeks back wearing my AFD shirt (neck & sleeves ripped off to add carachter), and went in McDonalds.  The girl behind the counter stated that she liked my top and that she was a big fan.  When she gave me my take away she winked at me and said "come back in any time".  I thought "ok, cool".

When I got home my bag had two double cheese burgers in it that I did'nt order, and now I get free stuff off of her all the time!!  She's comming in to my local pub tonight to hear me sing, and I think a romance is on the horizon, all from a t-shirt!?

Excellent stuff!! I'll keep you all posted

I get the same treatment for liking Guns N' Roses and David Bowie. People don't see how I can like both, which is stupid because I know quite a few people that do. Though most Bowie fans I've come across make fun of GNR - like at teenagewildlife.com. I've heard people say things like, "Axl does that usual whining through his adenoids that he calls singing," and calling them, "Guns N' Homophobes" - the usual shit people say, and most can't even spell Axl right ("Axel" or "Axle"). I have a GNR username at that site and a picture of Slash as my avatar, and I defend GNR whenever I see it. Otherwise, I hardly ever post there because they're nothing but a bunch of snobs there anyway... they give Bowie fans a bad name. And D, I love Prince as well.

I always get little comments on my GNR shirts, like "nice shirt" or "Guns N' Roses are for losers" or something like that. But I would always wear my GNR shirt when my mom made me go to church with my friend, because if I was going to go to church, I was going to wear it! I would sneak it out of the house and pull it over whatever I was wearing because my mom said it was very disrespectful. At church, I believe those were some of the worst comments that I have gotten on GNR, especially after the VMA's... and they were making fun of it, and mocking Axl (funny they knew the words after saying what a "satanic" band Guns N' Roses is which is crap) and someone said he looked like a gorilla, and started acting like one... so eventually I got really mad and violent, and got kicked out of church. I got a letter from the pastor saying that maybe I could come back the next year and shit, as if I really wanted to or even cared.

The best though was when this guy I really liked came to school wearing a GNR shirt... and I thought it was awesome if he liked GNR - and wasn't one of those people who wore their t-shirts without even knowing who they are ("Huh?" "Who?"). So I commented on it and said, "I like your t-shirt. I really love Guns N' Roses," and he said "Guns N' Roses are awesome." I could tell he's a really big fan. Why did he have to move away!?  >:(

I think there is two types of GnR shirts out there for the two types of GnR Fans.

YOu will see the old, worn out, and seen better days shirts from the old concerts and tours worn by a proud GNR fan for life and he dont care what you tell him.

Then you will see these brand new, still has creases in it, shirts worn by people who think GNR are cool or think the cross looks punk.

I respect the old concert t shirts or the worn out ones. Thoses fans have been wearing GnR's banner for years, hell more then a decade.
