Title: Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: Buddha_Master on June 22, 2004, 04:51:31 PM As Long as we have the top 100 Frontman of all time thread goin on...
Here's the link: http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_lyricists.html Not surprisingly, Bob Dylan is numero uno, with Lennon as #2. And yea I agree with both of these. Axl is way far back though considering who is ahead of him. Oh, Izzy is number 103. Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: HoldenCaulfield on June 22, 2004, 08:53:16 PM Lame. Maynard James Keenan is 22?!? Axl is easily the best lyricist I've ever heard. 'Coma', 'November Rain', 'Sweet Child O'Mine', and 'Estranged'? Come on!
Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: Spoonz on June 23, 2004, 01:01:37 AM i agree with the top two, but axl should be close behind them. Neil young is at #7, which is pretty accurate. Trent Rezner should also be much much higher on the list. same with eric clapton and dave matthews. WHo is in charge of making all these stupid plists?
Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 10st Lyricists of all Time Post by: Gunner80 on June 23, 2004, 02:03:41 AM What bullshit! Axl should at least be in the top ten. Polls are always pure trash. Lyrics or lyricists are always subjective to the listener anyway.

I can't believe the guy from Tool is ranked so high up. Buckely, Harper, Vedder ( I like Eddie, but 80 spots between Ax and himself is way too much) Maclean, Nowell.... Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: Suskind on June 23, 2004, 06:43:12 AM That list is bullshit

Don't you all think that there is an identical discussion going on at the Rage Against the Machine Message board.......... poster1: did you see the top 200 lyricists list? dave_RATM_2k5: no, where is Zack? #2? poster1: no he's #99 dave_RATM_2k5: wtf? these people are ignorant of Zack's mind blowing talent. Bulls on Parade is one of the most inspiring songs ever poster1: Get this B.S., Axl Rose was #95 dave_RATM_2k5: this is ludacris, #3 would still be too low.......and behind Axel?? what has he done in the past 10 years....whats he got, like 3 albums worth of material...I hear that Izzy guy write most of it anyway Who has the more correct opinion????????? Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: axl_rose_700 on June 23, 2004, 10:58:26 AM Could anyone tell me if Ian Brown from the Stone Roses was in the list?
I'm bracing myself for a piss take if he's ahead of Axl. Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: Buddha_Master on June 23, 2004, 11:34:42 AM I love when someones opinion doesn't pass muster on this board.......... So very true. Shit, I think Zack was an awesome lyricist (im a big RATM). I loved the real in your face truths on politics and the Government. Shit, if they were still around they could have a real case agaisnst Velvet Revolver for ripping them off on the track called "Big Machine." Anyway, opinions are like assholes. But I agree with the general consensus that Axl Rose belongs more in the top 20 than #95. That is just reallly wrong all things considering. Shit Jim Morrison, love him or hate him, was a poet in the truest sense of the word, and ? strongly believe he should be in the top 5. But as much as its bullshit how far back Axl is, Bob Dylan is the great lyricist of all time. That really cant be disputed, unless you are just an ignorant dolt. And John Lennon is certaintly where he should be at #2. The man just wrote some of the beautiful lyrics. Both of these I wholeheartedly agree with. So its not all bullshit, just to put some things in perspective. Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: MadmanDan on June 23, 2004, 04:12:27 PM Why would anyone care about these lists? They're all bullshit
Title: Re:Axl Rose #95 in Top 100 Greatest Lyricists of all Time Post by: Dizzy on June 23, 2004, 07:27:29 PM Axl definites writes better than a lot of those people, but most of them have much more material on which to judge. Axl only has four albums out there on which people can judge his great lyrics.
Good to see Ozzy on there too, even though he was cited for Black Sabbath, and he only wrote 10% of Sabbath's lyrics. Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler wrote the rest. Though Ozzy deserves credit for his solo career along with writing partner Bob Daisley. Good to see Stevie Nicks on there, though her Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie definitely should've been on there too. |
