Yeah you can't really compare but i think people are meaning what the song is in relation to say the spirit of the album........like to me superhuman is the brownstone for me.

Hmm, I wouldn't compare it to It's So Easy, that riff sounds like one of the riffs from the rockers off UYI, I can't place it though...

i liked this song the first time i heard it, but it keeps getting better. I wouldn't say it's as good as It's So Easy, but it rocks hard all on its own. They better release this as their 3rd single or i am going to be sad and frustrated.

4. Do It For The Kids/Loving The Alien (either of them are the other two best songs on the album, in my opinion)

Suckertrain Blues definately kicks ass!!! But it is no It's SO Easy. As for next singles.. Against my wishes they are releasing Falling To Pieces. I think they should do Loving The Alien or YGNR as a ballad. Others Headspace, Superhuman, Ilegal I, maybe Sucker.

from a record label stand point I think this is how it should go

wow, a lot of you think that Headspace is more catchy than Suckertrain Blues? i definitely don't agree.  :-\ The chorus of STB is incredibly catchy, as it is in DIFTK.
But it definitely seems like we all want to hear one of the other ballads released.

I wish they wouldn't release FTP next.  Not that I don't like the song or don't think it would be successful.  I just think they would be opening themselves for criticism for it being too GNR or 80s power ballad like.  I think LTA would be different kind of ballad to set them apart as a new band.  Although it may be a little too weird for mainstream audiences.  As for rockers, I think Headspace would be the best choice.

I totally agree, and with so many people likening LTA to Radiohead (a massively successful band though i personally think they are shit  :hihi:), releasing that song could only help boost their "alternative" appeal. For sure.

I think Radiohead basically sucks too, but LTA does kind of remind me of their better moments.  Not only would it help their cred, but I think it is the best song on the album.  

I'm not even going to venture to try to say which song is the new ___________.  To me it just has a totally different sound without Axl's vocals.  That's not saying that I don't like it.  So far my favorite song on there is definitely Loving the Alien.   :)

Hell Yeah love Brownstone Id give it a 5. Superhuman is atleast a strong 4. Thats the type of and feel of rock music that has been missing so long

Don't get me wrong...Sucker Train would also make a GREAT  single!

with a chorus like that and the best rocker solo on the album! no question!

Sucker Train Blues has a great pump up vibe about it. Its the kind of song that can get you pumped up for an album or a concert. I would say it reminds me a little of the vibe of WTTJ.

The 2nd singe: Well, it seems like it will be FTP.
3: A rocker: STB/Do it for the kids/Big machine/Illegal I/Spectacle/Headspace/Dirty little thing
4: YGNR or Loving the alien, I would prefer Loving the alien.

No new single: Slither (already released), Set me free (old and a bit boring) and Superhuman (the weakest song on the record).

I like STB very much, but "Its so easy" is a killer song, and I think its a bit better than STB!

I have only heard it on Vh1, but today I bought contraband!!
Can't wait to get home and hear it!  :D

Are you listening to the same song as ther rest of us?

The one I hear has one of the coolset Slash riff's I've heard since his Guns days.
It sounds like it could've fit nicely on either of the UYI albums too.

Scott's vocals in the verses annoyed me at first, but the chorus more than makes up for it, and then there's Slash's killer solo...  Slash plus whammy bar = match made in heaven : ok:

It's So Easy had balls, thick tone, neat, purposeful solos, sleaze, groove, swing like you wouldn't believe, aggression, attitude, rebellion and intelligent witty lyrics.

Suckertrain Blues has absolutely none of these.

Any comparisons between AFD GN'R and Contraband VR, particularly musically, are pointless: different bands, different time and influences, very different people.

Again, all down to personal taste.

Don't think Sucker Train Blues sounds like Its So Easy. Easy had a looser vibe to it, prob down to Izzy while STB is a full on rocker.

I wish people would stop comparing the new stuff to the old GnR stuff, AFD was 17 years ago, and there is different personnel on board, Scott, Matt and Dave instead of Axl, Adler and Izzy.

I gotta say STB is my favourite song on the album, I cant get enough of it! the solo is awesome as is the vocals, you gotta love Scotts howling/screaming during the song, reminds me of someone.

Think Loving The Alien is my fav slower tune though, awesome song.

I don't think STB is the new ISE either. It's not a bad song but it's not my favorite on the album.

from concert bootlegs it seems that It's So Easy have more energy than Suckertrain Blues...
speakin' of Suckertrain as 3rd single... I think there are a lot better tracks on Contraband like Headspace, Do It For Kids, Illegal I, LTA, YGNR...

Hey that was my problem in the beginning too.  I couldnt get used to Scott.

But after listening to the ballads over and over again, I am more comfortable with his voice.

Now the rockers are standing out to me.   And you have to play them loud.  :)

The song is still kicking ass and struck me hard today while I was blasting it. Still no "It's So Easy".  But it is getting close..

If you were to compare any songs off Contraband to gnr it would be to the illusions. And even that is a stretch.

AFD is in its own universe. To cpmare VR/contraband to that is unfair and stupid. Nothing comes close to AFD.

But if you really wanna compare CB to gnr stuff you would go to the Illusions. You can compare the rockers to the fillers on the illusions such as SB, RNDTH,etc....

Just goes to show you the wide variety of opinions and tastes of the people on this board. I don't think there are any fillers on UYI, apart from maybe My World. Each song is just a different flavour and style of GN'R's wide musical spectrum.

That's one of the reasons I'm still following GN'R - because I love nearly every song that they've released, not because of just 1 or 2 good songs.

the weakest song on Contraband is Set Me Free and the weakest on AFD is Anything Goes. I like Set Me Free better

In regards to contraband, it's the only time i've ever agreed with davegnfnr, probably the last time too, it's not worth much and a poor effort.

I don't see any posts here claiming Contraband of such greatness (apart from Sucker comparisons to It's So easy), but I don't agree with your opinion of Contraband at all.
I think it's a very strong effort for a debut album.

Dirty Little Thing is the best song ever!

I wouldn't go that far, but it would make a good 3rd single I think.

I dont think there are any fillers either. I love every song gnr has ever written. The only song I havnt heard is Cornshucker. Never was able to hear it :{

Other than that I love every song on every album and the unreleased stuff...I only said fillers so I didnt have to name all the songs...

STB is a great song! one of the best in contraband without a doubt. My favourite part of the song is just before slash's solo(around 2:45).Just as the chorus ends you can hear some high pitch noises(dave's guitar??)  and after that slash begins his solo while scott screams on top of it!Magical stuff :smoking:
