I'll start then...

I recommend any song from the band " Death Cab for Cutie" but since I have to recommend one, I'll go with " Expo'86" off the Transatlanticism album.

The song starts with slow with an electric guitar. Then an acoustic guitar kicks in, becoming the chord structure of the song. The chorus is more of a rocker, with heavier drums and guitars. Melodic vocals.

This band kind be described as an indie pop band. Some describe their sound as emo. They are no rockers, mellow sound but great lyrics and voice. They have 4 albums out. I have downloaded every song of the mentioned album above and a couple here and there. It's definitely worth it. If you looking to find heavy riffs in this one,skip it, but if you're open to new sounds, this is a winner.

The lead singer is also involved in another project called " The Postal Service". That's more Electronica oriented, but with electric and acoustic guitar melodies.


By the way, I dont think this band is big. I wouldn't know from where I live, but I don't think they have a big record deal nor they are getting too much airplay. Maybe indie stations but that's all.

I listened Death Cab for Cutie?s Expo ?86.

Never heard of this band before. The song was quite slow and "easy going" and as Chinansky said vocals were melodic. It was ok, not the kind of music i would listen much, though.

Suprise, I will recommend Backyard Babies song called Look at You. Backyard Babies are swedish glamrock band. This song is from Total 13-album (1998 MVG records, Coalition recordings). It?s quite fast, and i?d call it punk n?roll... Great, stirring chorus. (Hopefully Backyard Babies aren?t too "popular" for this..). Enjoy!  ;)

The Backyard Babies track sounds like something I've heard before. Still a great track though.....reminds me very much of the Wildhearts.

OK, check out Dirty Stevie - D'ya Wanna Have Sex With Me. I think I already got Avaa to download this. It's a good rock n' roll song, with a very catchy chorus and riff. They're from B'fast.

Backyard Babies are great, I borrowed their debut of my friend on...Well, somebody's advice from the board. Maybe Aava. It's a really good album.

And that's also a great song.

It will also probably come as no suprise that I'm going to recommend King Adora...

I've recommended them about four times on this board and never have I got any feedback. Well, from one person I have, but he's a loser face.

As I've said before they are kind of pop punk, but I mean this not in the slightest way as what Blink 182 are classed as. I mean real pop punk...Punk with a pop edge to it, slightly more sing along underground Punk. I guess they're slightly glam, but don't be expecting no Hanoi Rocks. Maxi Browne sounds slightly like a more vicious Frank Black.

It's hard to categorize them...

Originally they had support from Kerrang, Q and Radio 1 (The Rock Show..), but that seems to have dried up since they were dropped from their label after their first album.

...But is not important, they have a new label. I saw them live about a month back and they are a great band to see.

Ok, i?ll recommend finnish band 22 Pistepirkko and their song Birdy. 22 Pistepirkko is mix of garage rock and electrical music. It sounds a bit weird, but i love it, makes me happy!

I'm so bad at the genre Dirty Stevie represents it all starts sounding like Sex Pistols in my ears.. So I wasn't really a fan of that.

Death Cab for Cutie one was good I thought.. Not something I'd buy an album full of, but I liked it.

I've never been a big fan of Backyard babies, so I didn't care for that song either.

I'd like to suggest a song by a sideproject of the drummer of Dream Theater called  "Liquid Tension Experiment". I don't know if you've heard of it, but if you haven't, and like instrumental music, make sure you do. A good song to sort of get to know them is "Acid Rain", or if you're not a fan of faster music, you can try "Biaxident".

I myself don't like Dream Theater almost at all (mainly because of the singers not so masculine voice), but this I can listen to for a very, very long time..

It's actually not only Mike Portnoy's sideproject, there's also John Petrucci (guitar) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards) from DT. So it's practically Dream Theater gone instrumental. But yeah, LTE is great for those who dislike James LaBrie's vocals. I used to hate them as well, but since 'Images and Words' is such a classic album, I kinda got used to it.

As for the song Aava mentioned, 'Birdy' by 22 Pistepirkko, it's a great, atmospheric song. Pretty alternative stuff, but cool.

I recommend, from all my heart, the song 'Storm' by Devin Townsend (it's from the 2003 album Accelerated Evolution). It's heavy metal, but probably nothing like you've heard before. Devin has a unique ability to create this huge wall of sound, with all these amazing melodies, and the vocals... 'Storm' has one the most emotive vocal deliveries I've heard in my life - it has that certain thing that Axl managed to create at the end of Estranged. If there are any emotions in you, and you listen to the song with the lyrics in front of you, it will very likely make you feel something. Especially pay close attention to the last minute of the song, it'll simply blow you away..

Mike Portnoy was given the chance to build a sideproject with the players of his choise and he was asked for a wishlist for all the different players he wanted to work with. So he chose Tony Levin on bass, and Jordan Rudess, who was not part of Dream Theater at the time. The Idea of using John came from his wife, and at first he wanted to keep the band totally separated from DT, but decided otherwise in the end... What I'm trying to say here is that when they started, it _was_ a Portnoy soloproject. But that's not the point of this thread so I'll just shut it, and go find that song you suggested.

I've actually been trying to get this guy for a long time, he seems to get alot of respect, plus he played for The Wildhearts......his songs just seem shit to me. I've downloaded the track, and it sounds like something thats supposed to be emotional, but just comes across quite cheap, and painfully tiring. Sorry.

I recommend a band called the Fighting Cougars - Sports Metal Showdown, who are a crossover band, that means hardcore/thrash. It's pretty basic, but they are quite good and their singer is an old friend/Electric Frankenstein fan. I recommend one of my fav songs, Andy McCoy (Hanoi Rocks guitarist) - Strung Out. Basic rock. It?s released around ?95, i think.

I don't like Andy McCoy's solo material that much, but I have to say Strung Out is a great song. It's classic rock, I'm sure a lot of people here would dig it.

But that's an interesting view, cheap is something I could never connect with Devin Townsend; he's such a genuine, honest, original, uncompromising, talented artist. And like you said, he really does get a lot of respect, especially from other musicians. Anyhoo, my recommendation is Dream Theater's 'A Change of Seasons'. It's a 23 minute masterpiece that can be described as nothing short of breath-taking.

(BTW, I know I'm only supposed to recommend one song, but this is just in case you guys are too lazy to DL a 23 min. song ... Check out Liquid Tension Experiment's 'Hourglass'. It's a slow song. If you wanted fast, DL Skeboy's recomendation.)

I downloaded Hourglass off of Kazaa. Its a very interesting and powerful song.

I dont know if you have heard of the reginional band, THE ROCKET KING. They have hard rock guitars and sounds that remind me of good 80's rock. I like their whole album "Day Late & a Dollar Short" their song Bridge to Burn is a good one to check out.

The band is called Ghoti Hook and the song is "Drop Dead" from their self-titled final EP. It is sort of like an AC/DC rocker with more melodic, meaty vocals. If you go poking around for them, their earlier material is VERY different. They went from silly pop-punk on their early albums to the big rock sound on this EP and (to a lesser extent) the album that preceded it, Two Years To Never. I'm really interested to see what other GN'R fans think of it, because I think it's great.

After being deleted by mistake, I'm reposting one of my recommendations. It's definitely worth sharing with the HTGTH crowd.  :beer:

I would like to recommend a song called The Antique. It's by a band called Kayo Dot, from the album Choirs of the Eye. This song is very, very weird. Normally, I dislike Floyd or Radiohead style songs, but this song just has something I like in it. It's very unorthodox, but beautiful.

It begins with a piano part. This song really creates an atmosphere with the myriad of sounds used. It is not sythesizer heavy. It's artistic.

Oh hell, I give up. You'll just have to hear this song to understand it. Trust me, it's worth the download. I wouldn't recommend buying this album because it's very unusual, and hard to get into. I just love it myself.

That song is great, it's got the whole doom/noise thing going on. It's beautiful but at the same time disturbing. I'll defo download some more of their songs (took me ages to get this one, it's massive).

I just now found out Kayo Dot was formed after Maudlin of the Well broke up. And yes, many people have heard of Maudlin, and they do have a record deal. Sorry for that. :( But does Tzadik Records really count as a major record label?  ???

Ok, I checked out all of the songs on their web site. The first song had an annoying speaking part right in the middle of it, and I am not liking the singer at all. The production is a big part of it. They could also use fresh riffs at times.

My favorite song is zombified. The band itself is overall good, but they should really consider dropping that whole horror gimmick. Their web site looked really cheesy to me.

I looked around on direct connect and managed to get 'Drive to Destruction' it starts off like Slayer on Acid then seems more like a regular thrash song nothing too special but i like the talking in the middle then it picks up again i would not go out and buy the CD but at the same time im not deleting the mp3 not bad recommendation : ok: maybe with a few more listens i'll get more of a liking for it :-\

I'm going to recommend a band called Shrapnel for a short while Shrapnel fucked things up at legendary New York and they recorded a few indie singles and released a self titled EP on Elektra Records in 1984.  They lasted about 7 years but only released an EP and a few singles as far as i know.  I would recommend the song Combat Love and if you can't get that go with Go Cruisin'.  They were classed as punk rock but it's got a pop/rock feel to it still very good stuff all the same.  The lead singer also went onto greater things after they split he taught himself the guitar and formed Monster Magnet, yes Shrapnel was led by Dave Wyndorf :smoking:

I downloaded Not My Kinda Scene and when the song started i thought it was gonna be another The Calling but they are far superior i loved that song didn't even know it was on the Mission Impossible 2 Soundtrack.? Now i realise you'll find it hard to find their stuff because they have never released anything.? Their debut EP is out August 10th which i hope will sell well but you just never know so ill try and keep spreading the word through this board.? Like ive said before they are like The Darkness but 10 times better they have a great old school feel and are influenced by the likes of Aerosmith, Def Leppard and a whole load of class bands.? Hurricane Party is incredible.? I picked up their cd this past Saturday and I love it.? The 5 songs on the Get This EP are so good, I'm surprised they didn't record an entire full-length cd.

Well i think that album must of already come out somewhere dude.  I took your advice and looked up Silvertide on Direct Connect i downloaded 2 tracks Foxhole Jesus Christ & Nothing Stays.I like both songs [one more than the other which i will explain later] and i can hear the similarities in the music vocally they are very different though.  I would say the Silvertide vocalist is better but only just he seems to have a more matured voice than Richie Hevanz of Hurricane Party who has a more rough around the edges voice which i think is better for the music so technically Silvertide has the better guy but i still prefer Hurricane's.............sorry if that's confusing.  Out of the 2 songs Foxhole Jesus Christ is the better great bit on the piano at the end and an awesome solo.  The other song although being good is like songs i have heard a million times before and it's missing the great solo it feels somewhat grungy in parts and is definately not a stand-out track i will have to check out more stuff of theirs.  But if you have Windows Media Player i assume you know that when on the net it finds album info e.g. tracklisting etc. well it found Silvertide's Show & Tell when i added the tracks to my media library saying it came out on the 8th of June.

Now for another of my recommendations Medication they only did one album a couple of years ago and had virtually no success or at least none people really remember so i am going to recommend them.  They are fronted by Whitfield Crane formerly of Ugly Kid Joe [also very underated].  The 2 bands are worlds apart so fans of one may not like the other.  Medication are a lot heavier and some would say have Nu-Metal tendancies but i would like to think they are more heavish metal i certainly would not group them with Limp Bizkit & Linkin Park and Whitfield has one of the best voices in rock.  Songs worth checking out are Inside, Something New, No Direction.

It will be released in Japan on August 30th of this year and everywhere else on September 21st or 28th.



It was originally scheduled to be released on June 8th, but got pushed back to September.


I agree on your assessment of the vocalists for Silvertide & Hurricane Party.? Listen to Hurricane Party's "Last Survivor".? On that song Richie sounds like Jon Bon Jovi when he sang "Runaway".? Pretty cool.


Regarding Medication....I wasn't crazy about the music.? I do like Whitfield Crane's voice though.? I guess the music was too dark for me.

Right. I tried Hurricane Party. Gosh,  that was bad. Obviously, I was listening to it  on the link that K-Rock posted, but my god what a polished sound. You can tell that these guys are having the big bucks being thrown at them not a bad thing if you can pull it off). I get the impression that these guys are british, trying to act american. I haven't read a biog, so I don't know. but that's what it sounds like. This is terrible though, I honestly cannot say enough bad things about this cliched cock rock crap.

I'm gonna submit Zen Motel. An up and coming rock group from the UK. The song I recomend is a rock n' roll track basicly, although I can hear a bit of a grunge influence in there, it's got a great chorus (great for live shows) and some pretty neat guitar work. I saw these guys a while back, mainly because I heard on the streets they were going to be the next Wildhearts. They could very well be, if they stopped trying to be Nirvana.

I liked Devil Song. Fast, basic rock n?roll song. But it wasn?t too fast or too unclear. I?m not sure if the "special effect" in singers voice is good or bad.
Anyway, this kind of music is for me! Reminds me of Turbonegro.

Fuck The world is one of the low points of their last album. Good at the time, but really lacking energy. After a few listens, it gets boring.

My song is The Donnas - Get Rid Of That Girl. Just an awesome sugar punk song off their first album, when they were in 11th grade. I love the energy of this band, unlike other female artists, they actually have some balls to go out and play faster and better than the males, instead of using their tits to sell records. PLAY IT LOUD.

I checked that song out and I think it was average at best. The bass riff and guitar riff seem identical and the riff seems to just repeat itself without leading up to anything else and the solo was okay if not too electronic? :-\

Listened to a Rattlesnake Remedy song very medicore, i mean it's my kind of music they were just real poor at it the vocalist was nothing to write home about.  I searched for a Operation Ivy song and downloaded Junkie's Runnin' Dry (the title appealed to me).  Pretty cool punk got a catchy feel to it, nothing to special but with it being an Arron recommendation i'm guessing i need to be mashed to full appreciate and im in the midst of rolling so my opinion of it may improve.

Ok here's a rarity for you.  In 1989 Monster Magnet released Forget About Life I'm High On Dope on a limited number of vinyls (Yes they are big now, well kinda but they weren't when they put this out).  Now it's never come out on CD (officially) so it may be a bit of a mission to find it, if you can't pm me and i'll send it to you it's called Eightball.

For my recommendation, check out Jag Panzer's album Ample Destruction. Or, just any song off it. The whole thing is great! JP is more well known these days, but good luck getting your hands on AD. Piracy is the only really reliable way to get at it, arr. ;)

:hihi: can't be too well known i've never heard of them and i would like to think i haven't been living under a rock.  Piracy worked anyway, i downloaded the whole album off Direct Connect.  I really like the stuff, some awesome guitar playing, great fast tempo stuff on tracks like Cardiac Arrest.  I love the slow building intro on Eyes of the Night.  The vocals are pretty good to i'd describe them as a cross between Bruce Dickinson & Paul Di'Annio(think i got the spelling correct there).  Anywayz i'd say that's one of the best recommendations so far, only thing that i did not like were the real dodgy backing vocals on Warfare but that's a very minor complaint.  Are they British btw?

Jag Panzer is American power metal. Ample Destruction came out in 1984, and was a groundbreaking album for power metal. Helloween helped start the European type of power metal. For Helloween, the Keeper of the 7 Keys (parts 1 and 2) are their 2 masterpieces, but Wall of Jerico and The Dark Ride are good too.

I think one reason why this thread isn't working so well is that people have such varied tastes in music; Guns N' Roses is a popular band and listened to by a wide range of people. On another board I go to, visited by fans of a not so well known prog band, people have been giving out lots of song/band recommendations, and it's worked out really well because we've all got very similar tastes - a lot people have found their favorite new bands that way. (my most recent find: Agalloch.. oh my fucking god? :drool:) It's at a point where you can actually trust the recommendations and download/buy the material, because there's a 90% chance you'll love it.

Here's another one for you guys.

Hellhammer- Triumph Of Death  :peace:

This one is from their Apocalyptic Raids demo. This band was so tr00 and kvlt, they never released an album, only demos. Celtic Frost, the band formed after Hellhammer split, is more familiar, but I never really got into them. Hellhammer, however, is the real stuff! It's unbelievable how heavy this song is for ~1982. It ranks up there with Black Sabbath and Beyond The Realms Of Death. It's also very important historically in the development of black metal, even if it's mostly doomy in sound.

I seriously recommend a song called When Demons Awake by a band called Rhapsody. It combines elements from Black Metal and Classic Heavy Metal. It has Metallica-speed guitarwork and it includes frequent keyboard work in the song with somewhat "tolerable" vocals; meaning that the singer cna be understood...to a degree. The band is a newer band, with an album release in 2003 (i think) and i recommend oyu guys listen to the song. :headbanger:

Newer? Rhapsody has been around for over a decade, with 5 albums out so far. They are also very well known by metal standards. I've never been overly impressed by them. They're like a watered down Manowar, even though Joey DeMaio supposedly likes them.

Actually, it might be a problem if too many kvlt obscure bands are posted, since it can be very hard to find them. My Hellhammer recommendation is rather well known as influential, though...

Anyway, about the song. It's ok power metal, better than Nightwish, but not as good as Dragonforce and Symphony X. The orchestra type singing just doesn't work better than a single talented singer. The guitars sound fine, but not exceptional. Rhapsody and Power Quest, meh, I just don't get Italian power metal.

It sounds nothing like black metal, by the way. ;)

I just started listening ot them recently and i had no idea they were around so long. Also, black metal by guys like children of bodom give rhapsody that "black metal touch" My appologies.

speaking of which, i reccomend also lisetning to Chokehold (Coked N' Loaded) by Children of Bodom. Altough I'm not a big fan of black metal, i give this song credit for the up-and-coming guitar genious Alexei Lahio. The song flows pretty well, and hints of "old school" metal is eveident, though slightly.

Children Of Bodom barely, if at all, qualifies as black metal. Dimmu Borgir isn't kvlt, either. They're more of a power metal with harsh vocals and distorted guitars, but not really black metal at all. For some real, tr00 black metal, get Darkthrone, Burzum, Emperor, Bathory, Enslaved, Graveland, Immortal, Summoning, Ulver, Gorgoroth, Arcturus, Ildjarn, and Mayhem. Yeah, all of those are worthy. Yes, I love black metal. :)

I recommend a finnish band Full Diesel and their song No Mans Land. Their music is kinda melodic hard rock/heavy. The band have been playing together about two years. They have released two EPs; Full Diesel and Gun Shy. Video game FlatOut, which has been published worldwide, includes two songs from their first demo on the game soundtrack.

I know Avaa will hate me for saying this? :P but No man's land sounded just like anything Creed has done before. It's a much heavier version, but the vocals sound like Creed's singer (which is not a good thing)

The other song, Deathbed Lullaby was better. The guitar solo is ok, but the riffs are still average.

The song I chose closed Frank's Black album "Cult of Ray". It's an autobigraphical song about a foreign exchange student beaten to death by his school mates 25 years ago. Not a very happy theme, but a great song to say the least. Alternative - pop sounds and melodies with an amazing guitar solo at the very end of the song.

The song seemed to have a lot more depth than his Pixies work good to see he can make equally good but different music while still retaining the Pixiesesque vibe, is the rest of his solo stuff like that? For my recommendation i suggest listen to this newish Danish band called "Who Made Who". Kinda a mixture of Disco and some punk i guess. Hard to explain. Evolution, great recommendation, its definately being placed on my Ipod's rotation list. Your right as well, this type of music I find very hard to classify as it touches on both disco and punk as you said, but to me sounds like its has maybe mild emo influences too. Is their band name a reference to AC/DC on purpose or just called themselves that for the hell of it.

I strongly am telling you to download "Liberal Arts" by Canibus and Jedi Mind Tricks. There is just so many good aspects that make this song what it is, and the reverb will be stuck in your head for quite some time. Well i downloaded it and i thought the music to it was great. However rap isn't my bag baby. So i didn't enjoy it all that much. I can kinda see why a rap fan would though. He is fairly agressive on the mic there.


Ok for my pick i choose "Time Has Come" by Logan. A scottish rock band in a similar vein to Creed and maybe some Bon Jovi in there. Your gonna have to PM me for this one as they havent got a record deal yet so it isn't widely avaliable.

i see a darkness by 'bonnie prince billy', its a bit of a folky tune with some real passion. johnny cash covered it on one of the american recordings and both versions are well worth a listen, the bonnie prince takes the prize though.

Hey Evo, your link didnt work for me so I had to rip it off Limewire...fucking rare track there was only maybe 3 files for share.

I didnt really have high expectations since you compared it to two of my least favorite musicians-> Bon Jovi and Creed :P

Nonetheless, I gave it a listen with an open mind and I was much more impressed with this track then the disco-esque thing you previously recommended. It sounds incredibly modern, yet isnt lacking the originality or aggression that too many up and coming rock acts lack. The guitar riff are delightfully simple and the chorus is great to daydream too while singing..great pick : ok:

My recommendation to you (and hopefully you havnt already heard it!) is "Villian" by Canadian Idol finalist Jacob Hoggard's band HEDLEY. Dont the Canadian Idol thing scare you away, this guy made it to the finals for a reason...because he can fucking sing his lungs out! This band is located in Vancouver and slowly but surely they are branching out in popularity everywhere.

This is the bands first single, but there are plenty more to come since the whole cd kicks ass! The best way I can describe the type of music is a cross between Finch and AFI, with the poppy goodness of Blink-182 sprinkled on top. Jacob sounds like Rob Thomas for the first verse but once he gets to the chorus hes a screamer! His voice meshes flawlessly with a killer bass riff and gutar riffage..I most hope you enjoy this tune dude!...and if you like download "On My Own" its not as good as Villian but its good nonetheless.  : ok:

This sounds alright. I get you with the bassline and he has a cool voice. Sounds like he is holding back to me at times. He should show off more! All in all i like and the solo-esque break down is good.


My next recommendation is "Virus With Shoes" by Little Hell. You may recognize it from VH1's VR special. Their singer is the English guy who got flown in.


Pretty unknown band with a killer chorus and vocals. Punky rocky kind of tune. Enjoy!

Ok, I listened to Minds Eye... I hope other people download this track because it's really good.  At first I thought it was going to be some slow depressing song, but by the time that little keyboard breakdown kicked in I was enjoying it a lot.  I guess I could kind of see the White Stripes comparison because it's "simple".  Anyways, good recommendation!

K, I'd like to recommend a hip hop track, hopefully it will sway someone that can't stand the "rims and bitches" rap.  Anyone who likes Gorillaz should be able to dig this one... it's from a new album by "DangerDoom", which is a collaboration between MF Doom and DJ Danger Mouse.  Danger Mouse is well known now because of the Grey Album, he also produced the Gorillaz CD (MF Doom is on "November Has Come", BTW).  The only way I can describe Danger Mouse's production is "bouncy".

I recommend the song "Old School - DangerDoom Featuring Talib Kweli"... it should be on LimeWire, or I could hook up a yousendit link.  Don't take it seriously, just put it on, kick back and enjoy!

CKY's Suddenly Tragic: My first thought was "Oh fuck, not CKY". I had only heard a few songs of theirs before and didn't really care for them. So I was prepared to hate this also. Surprisingly I thought the vocals were very good, but the music was boring. I think every note musically was lifted from a "How to Play (Insert name of Instrument Here)" book. I would have rather had weaker vocals and better music.

I already had downloaded this song as well as a live version after reading from your Libertines thread, but Ill still post my review for it. I think the track is very cool and definately has a punk vibe to it, but for some reason I felt like I was listening to Rancid or Transplants. Pete's vocal's just sound like a cliche of Tim's. I liked "Cant Stand Me Now" way better actually. Musically the song isn't brilliant but it's catchy and will get a lot of spins on my iPod : ok:

My recommendation to you is "Warmness on the Soul" by Avenged Sevenfold and it's off their first album, Sounding the 7th Trumpet.

I got into this band awhile ago because I adore Screamo music, but was pleasantly surprised when I found this breathtaking track. There is no screamo vocals at all, and for the first part it is mostly an acoustic track. I find the lyrics as well as the composition of the song to be amazing and Im sure you will most enjoy this track.

My recommendation to you is "Warmness on the Soul" by Avenged Sevenfold and it's off their first album, Sounding the 7th Trumpet.

I got into this band awhile ago because I adore Screamo music, but was pleasantly surprised when I found this breathtaking track. There is no screamo vocals at all, and for the first part it is mostly an acoustic track. I find the lyrics as well as the composition of the song to be amazing and Im sure you will most enjoy this track.

So rules are you listen to this before you post a recommendation, and when you do you comment on it first and review it so to speak, and also your recommendation needs to be like non-commercial, non major record deal, in the kind of, who the fuck are they zone :P :P

I recommend Alone You Breathe by Savatage.  Kinda like an epic ballad with killer lyrics.

I also would like to recommend Jerusalem by Dan Bern.  Bern is a folk musician with a lot of influences, namely Dylan, Woody Guthrie, and Springsteen.  Some of his songs are very poetic.  Others are political, and like this one, hilarious.  Great artist though!

Ok, I listened "Fight Like A Brave" from Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Listened to Sucka Agenda. I liked Story of the Year - And The Hero Will Drown. Some of the lyrics were hard to make out being a live show. All in all, fairly good.

I discovered a new song today called, "Resistance" by Alexa Ray Joel. It's a beautiful piano ballad. She also has an incredible voice. Her other song, "The Revolution Song" is worth checking out as well.

I really like Alexa Ray Joel.  In fact I think that 'The Revolution Song' is one of the best songs I've heard from a solo female artist for a long time.  I think that her voice could possibly suit a more subtle blues/jazz song though (not to say she doesn't do this well).

I prefer 'Resistance'.  She sings with real passion.  If this stuff is released I will buy it for sure.  I am adding her as a MySpace friend.

Interesting, definitely very indie, the lyrics are cool, singing is too slow at first for me. I give them credit in that they probably made this song with not much more than a PC and created some drum & synth beats on it. So any of us could if we put the effort into it.

Heya, I reccomend "Roses On My Grave" by Alleycat Scratch

It's quite a slow song, a cross between Wanted Dead Or Alive by Bon Jovi and Don't Cry by the one and only.

They were an 80's band but never really hit it big, still, their debut Album 'Dead Boys In Trash City' is one I'd reccomend for any fan of hard rock with a more glam sheen.

Great band from Pittsburgh

It's o.k. to listen to that song every once in a while when it's on the radio but it's not something I would buy.

Today's recommendation is from a Belgium band called Ghinzu.

Their first album (electronic jacuzzi) was really experimental, noisy rock with a real melodic piano line in  most songs. Great stuff.
Their third, and most recent, album (mirror mirror) is less experimental and more straight on rock. It has a single and all.. There are many great songs on it and it's definitely word listening to!

But the song I want to recommend is from their second album, blow. It's called the dragstar wave.
The song starts out with a real laid back groovy tune and John Stargasm's lovely voice ;) It then quickly goes into an instrumental break with mostly John playing his piano/keyboard. After a while the song changes radically and goes into full rock formation with guitar, nice drum line and catchy vocals. In the live version (link below) they added an extra verse featuring vocals only before the band kicks in one last time to close the song.
It's really great stuff both music-wise as lyric-wise!

As for Gorgoroth, know the band didn't know that song, but it isn't horrible
definitely not the worst black metal I've heard

and for mine, if you enjoy a great concert I would totally recommend Cowboy Mouth!
their music is different depending on what album you pick up, but the show is a lot of fun
Jenny Says is my personal favorite by them, definitely recommending that!

I got a question to make!

I hadnt notice this thread until now, and i came across the title  thought i would check it out cause it seemed like a cool topic, only to realize that the rules for this thread in my humble opinion are too strict and even stupid.  :confused:

Why can't a person suggest a song from an established well known band?? I mean just because there's some bands that have been around forever, doesn't mean you automatically know their music, or even heard of them...

For example, iv heard of Pantera before, but iv never became interested in their music.. thanks to this site... i thought about checking out their songs, and eventually i liked "Cowboys from Hell", and they've been around forever...

Same thing happened with Blind Melon and The Replacements...

So all of this to say that i think the rules for this thread really suck. Not trying to give you guys a hard time, just a suggestion for the rules to be more open minded in this thread.

They released only one album in 2000 and broke up late in that year. I thought the album was fantastic from top to bottom and I never really heard anyone talk about them back then or since.
