Here Today... Gone To Hell!

If you Watch one of the Making F***ING Videos  (Estranged I think)  Between takes Slash is playing aroung on  a 12 string, and AXl starts whistling over what he is playing.  

The guitar part sound very similar to Fall to Pieces off of Contraband.

Thoughts???

I thought that was "Back And Forth Again" (from Snakepit)?  Havent heard it, so I dont know...I just remember people on here saying that.


Dont know, but Slash has spoken about coming up with the riff and presenting it to Scott, which leads me to believe it was done recently.  However its possible that Slash came up with it earlier and forgot about it.

I watched it last night and the riff you are talking about DOES sound very familiar, but i will need to hear FTP in my stereo before i can say that. BUT... the piece that people here thought was "This I Love" is not that piece. It comes a bit later when Axl is talking about Dylan and it is a piano piece and it is really beautiful.

I would laugh if Slash would have ripped off Axl's song...  :hihi:

in there you can find a link to d/l a mp3 where someone has been edited those versions together for better comparing! its an interesting issue IF "Fall to Pieces" really would be coming from the GN'R "Making of Estranged"-era!

Slash is not ripping of Axl here anyways.  Its Slash's song that he brought forward so he can do what he wants with it.  I guess he thought he'd keep it for another day!

didn't axl recently say (either in a chat or even billboard) something about slash playing the fall to pieces lick and when axl showed interrest slash took it for himself or something? somebody's gotta know what i'm talking about

Yep, that could well be true.  Maybe Slash didnt want to use it for Guns at that particular time.

Just listened to fall to pieces for the first time in a while, its better now than when it came out.  I love the guitar riff.

I listened to the mp3 comparing FTP w/the clip on the Making of Estranged video and I think the guitar riffs sound quite similar. What does everyone else think?

Didn't Axl give a certain timeframe that Slash first came to him with Fall To Pieces (like when they started bringing in ideas for the new album)?  I think it was well after the videos were made.

play these 3   ..   D, C,G   and you can write a lot of songs.... and a lot of wich would feel the same (musicly)\

I found this on the thread where they have the whole axl letter back when he posted on the boards speaking about FTP-doen't really give a timeframe

FTP is basically the SCOM riff but backwards anyways... lol

It's a generic riff he uses in a lot of songs - During the SCOM bridge and the ending of Patience for example...

Its actually very similar to Yesterdays, although it has a very different feel.

That would explain the simularitys but I still love all those rifts ;)

Axl said Slash played the key bits of FTP riff on his latest rehearsals with Guns back in 96. And I believe that.

On the other hand, I don't think the riff played on the Making the fucking videos is the riff of Fall To Pieces.
